Business, Economics, and Taxes: Capitalism. Yay? >=(

Wow. Watch the moment FOX learned the latest huge GDP numbers moment ago: “Talk about a strong economy. There goes that recession talk. We were thinking we were gonna have a slowdown. It’s the opposite!” Bidenomics is working & it has Fox jaw-dropped.

I love reading stupid replies such as, "Gas just went up $0.20 here in Michigan" or "Most Americans are struggling..." blah, blah blah. I wish I could reach through my laptop and slap them both.

btw the CPI has been steadily falling since July, 2022 and is inching closer to what it was when Trump left office, the GDP accelerated to 2.4% in the 2nd quarter and jobless claims fell again.

"The economy is doing well. So why does it feel like it isn't?"

At some point people will realize they don't need to feel the way they're told to feel. Once that happens:

Oh Elmo

new expos? alleges that not only did Tesla rig and inflate its battery range readouts, but that it conspired to cancel service appointments with duped customers to boot.

As Reuters reports based on interviews with Tesla insiders, the electric vehicle maker both deliberately inflated its battery range to sell more cars and later began employing teams to divert the crush of service appointment requests stemming from the problem.

The range-inflation scheme began roughly a decade ago, the report claims, when the company created algorithms that painted a "rosy" projection of how far its cars could go on a full battery — generally around 350 miles. Once the battery fell below 50 percent of charge, however, the range would fall to projections that were closer to how far it could actually go, which, per various studies cited in the report, was often between 12 and 26 percent lower than the inflated readouts.

App store updates are starting to push out Twitter's update to X.

Only, for iPhone users, the update will only change the logo / inner workings. The actual app name will continue to display "Twitter."

Why? Because Apple requires app names to have a minimum of two characters.

And they completely unfairly allow only 676 of those!

So Lex Luthor, I mean Elon Musk has placed a giant 30' tall, lighted, "X" on the roof of the former Twitter building.

it's supported by large erector set shaped tube steel weighted down by sandbags that are ratchet strapped to the feet and legs.

I'll pause my post to allow DX, and other engineering minded people wipe up their brains as they oozed from their ears after seeing this:

I'd just like to remind you all that the (former) Twitter building is located on Market Street in San Francisco and receives unusually high winds frequently.

And that's before I even remind you all that this is in a seismic activity zone.

And I haven't even got into the point loading on a roof with over 100 sandbags weighting 40lbs each...

I'm learning a lot about the global economics of the US market by playing around with VPNs.

When I have my ordinary non-VPN or any US VPN and I connect to BBC, France24, Le Monde, DW, Anadalou, the news sites have a mix of global, local, and American news. But when I change my VPN to another country, (1) the US news vanishes, and (2) is NOT replaced by whatever the country of the VPN is. The only case in which this isn't 100% true is the UK, which does tend to overpopulate British stories (BBC with a UK VPN is as much garbage as any American news site with no VPN).

The Anglophonic world really is particularly solipsistic. Even with a French VPN, a French news site will still populate with news from all over*, and not concentrate on the local linguistic goatse the way we do.

* TBF, all over for the French world is: Europe, Africa, and the Middle East. They have no Asia news at all.

OTOH, the only way to get African news that isn't just "what does this mean for the US/UK?" is to connect to Le Monde or France24 with anything except a US or UK VPN.

Edit: I found a worse one than US. NHK with a European VPN is a spread of news from all over the world. NHK with a Tokyo VPN is as insular as the worst US site.

OTOH I learned a typhoon is headed for Okinawa, which I'm pretty sure is how you get Kaiju.

I saw it yesterday I and just fucking wanted to scream.

Twitter has also prevented building inspectors from entering the building to inspect it. Twice.

Oh and wait until you see what that bi__tch does at night. Like a 6000k bat signal. If I lived across from that I'd have sued after the first night.

I've seen hundreds of attempted analogies for how the Republican Santa Con works, but this one strikes me as particularly brilliant and understandable by the gen pop.

There are two divorced parents. One parent buys the kid ice cream and a puppy. The other has to deal with the tummy aches and cleaning up after the dog. The kid thinks the first parent is the cool one and the second is the jerk.

I showed the app update to my wife and explained what Elmo has been doing. We both agree the app icon makes it look like a skeezy, malware-infested, p0rno app. :-D

Of course, if the goal was to destroy Twitter and let far-right a55holes inundate it, then 'X' is a perfect 'shade' rebrand. Twitter has been cancelled.

Yeah, the footage is amazing. Note the think doesn't just stay on, it cycles through patterns. Musk is an almost unique combination of incompetence and narcissism.

I don't buy that he wants to destroy Twitter just like I do not believe that Trump wants to destroy the Republican Party.

This is who these people are. What we need to figure out is why humanity wants these people to have so much power.

Because people are lazy and assume that if people have a lot of money and talk with an air of authority then they are strong leaders and we should trust them. It is remnants of the reptile brain that is all about self preservation.

It's a possibility. I read it somewhere, that the reason the powerful(not just the Right)want twitter destroyed is because that's a forum for the great unwashed masses to call them out on their bullshit. That the highly esteemed NYT columnist has to read tweets from nobodies telling them why they're just assholes full of shit. And the unwashed masses shouldn't be able to do that. Cause, you know, they are our betters.

The Saudis putting up money to help fund that effort doesn't hurt. No more having people calling them evil scumbags for bone-sawing journalists they don't like.
