Man...You can definitely feel the changes at Twitter in the last 48 hours.

Like what?

Similar yes.

Btw Zuck said they passed 70 million already. Reminder Twitter hit s high water mark of 368 and that took years! (And went down this year and continues to) that doesn't even scratch the surface cause Insta has 20x that.

How much of either is bots? How many actual human accounts? 5M?

Instagram had a billion users before Threads. If you look at it in that context, it's a 7% conversion. Is that good? To be seen.

Edit: I'm sorry, they have 2.3 billion users. It's 3% conversion.

In 2 days...you can grade on whatever curve you like if you were in charge of Threads you would be getting nothing but applause and you know it.

And almost all of the celebrities are moving over (mainly cause it takes pushing 1 button) and the influencers. People like me that hate Insta (even ones I know who absolutely hate Meta) are following the media figures and celebs they love. (friggin Oprah is on it) Pols are joining up (Right Wingers even...usually muted and blocked as they get outted) and most of the brands that left Twitter are there already. Its growing at an almost exponential rate because it is easy and free and verification still works. Its Twitter from about 10 years ago...maybe more.

Look I hate Zuck for a variety of reasons but to call this anything but a huge win is not looking at it clearly. Using your 2.3 billion number (which is more than I saw when I researched...though I barely researched) then to completely pass Twitter's high water mark they only need what...16% conversion? You care to wager they hit it and if so when? And remember right now it is basic functionality (no hashtags for example and limited timelines and ways to respond) because they just wanted to punch Elmo in the face. The more they add the more people will move over. And remember, Zuck has built in revenue for it already that isn't going anywhere because he actually understands this stuff unlike Elmo. He won't alienate his revenue streams for the lulz like Elmo did. Plus all of Twitter's old people Elmo canned are now starting to work there. By the time Zuck screws it up, and he will, it will be ubiquitous. By then I will be gone cause all of the fun will be squeezed out of it just like happened with Facebook.

Twitter? Probably about 25% depending. The nice thing is most of them are easy to find and ignore.

I never use Insta so I cant speak to it but if it is anything like Facebook probably about the same 25% maybe more. Right now obviously Threads is very low because it is new and the bots would not be very profitable for the influencers and frauds. If/when Threads gets closer to Twitter numbers you will see it grow. I had heard in the past Insta was better about bots but that is cause it was a lot of porn.

I just had to mute Newsmax and several others.

Yeah it is nice that everyone is pointing out when the freaks show up so we can block them right away and not let them screw up the algo. (yet) I am sure Ted Cruz is wondering why no one is talking to him ;^)

I hopped on Threads yesterday. The algorithm is killing my feed with a bunch of content from people I have no history of liking or following from Insta. I think once more people are on things will get better, but I won’t hold my breath.

They said the next update should have a "who you follow" tab and potentially a chronological timeline. It's similar (as you described) for everyone right now.

As for Instagram, I've been on it for over a decade, and I don't recall what it looks like to new users because i was on it befofe it peddled influencers and "recommended for you." I remember the days when it was just people I followed and I could "hit the end of Instagram," when I saw everything my friends posted.

I’m replacing my Twitter news feed with Threads and it’s going pretty well. Over half my main ones are there already except for Fintwit News, analysts, commodities traders, which are the most time sensitive, but i expect will show up. Do you guys have any follow recommendations?

I do it like this: deleted Facebook in 2016. Insta is for relatives only, to occasionally see pictures of new nieces, new boats, and kitchen remodels. Threads (was Twitter) for news. I don’t post anything publicly (use Reddit to insult strangers anonymously though)

Until you start adding to the algo you just see everything. It was weird the first night but it meant you saw all of the comedy that ensued ;^)

It was supposed to take all of my follies from
Instagram and apply them to Threads. I saw perhaps a single post from a few of my follies and the rest was completely random stuff.

I’ve never been active one Insta, so that might play into the whole thing.

I downloaded today from insta and saw only posts from people I follow on instagram.

I never used Insta either so I saw everything. At one point anytime a new celeb or brand joined it popped in my feed! It's a weird moment when you are high as hell and Wendy's starts talking to you through your phone!!

(I laughed way to hard when the Backstreet Boys joined and said "Oh my god we're back again")

I had the same experience as you Handy with the celebs, despite being a long time Instagram user. I think because I told it not to copy over my Insta follows and such, so it started me with a clean slate.

I love those whining they're not joining Threads because you cannot delete the account without deleting Instagram. Well no sh**. The app is built on the backhalf of Instagram, so of course the two accounts are "married."

They're all acting like this isnt how Meta handles Facebook as well. (The data is still there, even if you "delete" the account. I've seen a few people "swear off Facebook" only to return months later with their "deleted" account intact.)
