Bulldogs 09-10 Season

Re: Bulldogs 09-10 Season

:D If only! The best thing is.. ARM, CrazyDave and Brooky are all probably on the highway heading north already!
By that point, I was already in town, had checked into my hotel, and was headed down to Grandma's for some dinner. ;)

Nothing wrong with that.. I try to get to away game towns.. high school or otherwise.. a couple hours early... you never know what could happen along the way, or go to explore a little sometimes also.

Re: Bulldogs 09-10 Season

Harss was the difference again last night. What a game! And Friddy was on her game, too. She had a couple of rushes in the third where she missed the net literally by an inch or so. That first period made me nervous, but whatever Miller told the team between periods got their attention for the rest of the game. Tonight...fourth straight sweep?

Okay, here's one: Will the Gophers miss Raty more this weekend than the Dogs miss Tuominen and Posa? I say yes. The Gophers are good, no question, but I don't think they're seven points better than the Bulldogs. If Harss brings her "A" game to the DECC, I don't see the Gophers beating us.

OK, now I'll start looking to you for Powerball numbers :D

Re: Bulldogs 09-10 Season

I can't wait to read the Twin Cities papers and the Gophers websites to see what excuses they come up with other than being outplayed. That's a win, a shutout and a sweep.

The officiating crew? Oy. I should've packed a lunch and brought something to read.

Nah.. just keep taking pictures :) You never know when you'll wish you had taken that one picture :)

Re: Bulldogs 09-10 Season

I'm still wondering how this happened.. ALL 3 UMD goals.. were powerplay goals.. I can't think of any time in 10 years that this has happened. They've scored 3 in a game before in some of them double digit penalty games, but to score ONLY powerplay goals...

When are the twin cities papers full of whining?

Anyway, congrats to UMD. They did they're job. But it's not like they were heavy underdogs in this either. I'd have considered anything less than 3 points to have been underachieving, and I think Minnesota should have kept the No. 1 ranking even with a split.

You defended your home ice, Minnesota defended there's... and now Minnesota gets to play pretty much the rest of the season most likely at home (except 1 game @SCSU), where they are undefeated. Good luck with that.

Why do you think you'll read such excuses in the TC newspapers or on Gopher websites?

You might read some comments like the Gophers didn't play very well. Exactly what we always here from Miller when her team loses...never crediting the opponent with "outplaying" her team.

Re: Bulldogs 09-10 Season

This better move us up in the rankings, at least at USCHO. We're now tied with the Gophers for wins at 21, but Mercyhurst has 22 after this weekend. We both have more wins than Clarkson and New Hampshire. The #1 and #2 spots go to WCHA teams in next week's poll? Not that I'm predicting anything...

Gloating is part of the game. I'm just doing my duty as a fan. :D

Re: Bulldogs 09-10 Season

I'm ecstatic about the win; a little bummed at the officials for letting the penalties get to that point. But really, who wants to beat a dead horse?

That said-- did anyone see Gopher #25 (Rasmussen) give Miller a shoulder in the hand shake line up? Bologna. You would never see that from a Badger.

Re: Bulldogs 09-10 Season

Just wondering for the hell of it why the Gophers started Lura tonight instead of Grogan. From what I read about Lura, it was her first start and only the second game she's played. Is Grogan hurt?

Just from the 5-hole goals she gave up Friday night.. they might have figured they needed a change against UMD?? She seemed to be fighting the puck, probably from the lack of playing time I mentioned before? I'm sure the Gopher fans in the other thread might have a better idea.

Re: Bulldogs 09-10 Season

Great comments on here tonight. For starters, not surprised with
With the sweep at all. UMD earned it, and will be ranked No. 3, probably evn
Pairwise come Monday. I think unless the wheels come off
The dogs are locked to hose a regional game now. Curious why
Lura started too, but I also question how she has played
In just two games this season when Minnie KNEW Raty would
Be gone for a month come Feb. Tactical mistake? Maybe.
73 saves for Harss says a lot, I feel like I saw a new Martin
Emerging this weekend. One has to wonder now if for some reason
Martin doesn't return if it will impact UMD at all next season. Harss
Seems durable and less injury prone than Kim.

As for Saturday's game, very disappointed with Minn play late in
The game. Thibault was out of line and probably could and should
Have sat more than 2 minutes, but how soon after those
Penalties were assesed did the Gophers run Harss?
A little shocking. Unless someone has PROOF Miller threw the
Bottle, you aren't getting a call, Minn fans. I know UMD has no
Video of it. The pulled Lenz out of the box because they had
No proof the gatorade came from UMD's bench. Case closed.
As for 25 ripping Miller's arm out after, saw it, and it was an issue
after the game. That is awful sportsmanship. I don't remember
seeing Minn so out of control in a game as they were in that third
period. Hats off to UMD. On paper, Minn should have killed us
11 games and counting!!

Re: Bulldogs 09-10 Season

I thought Thibault was out of line, too, but West was guilty of a cheap shot on Thibault. I'm not saying West had it coming, but if you're going to play rough, sometimes you're going to get it back. On the other hand, I thought Kortum should've at least gotten five for retaliating way after the play (and right in front of at least two officials...real smart.) Thibault probably should've gotten five, too. I thought the long drawn-out discussion by the officials was about which one, or both, to throw out of the game.

I didn't see the incident with Coach Miller and Rasmussen from the Gophers. I've heard it described now as "giving her a shoulder" and "ripping her arm out." So what happened anyway? Not trying to start anything, just asking.

Re: Bulldogs 09-10 Season

I actually talked to UMD's SID last night, who Miller sent over to talk to Perrault after the game. She described what she saw and what Miller felt as "she grabbed her arm, would not release it, then jerked it down and twisted it." It was enough that she said Miller looked back, something I noticed too, to see which player it was. Miller is commonly sworn at through lines (was again last night), but 25's actual actions are another story.

Gopher fans will respond by saying Miller threw the gatorade, but one, that doesn't excuse ripping someone's arm out, and two, Lenz was IN THE BOX and then taken out. Perrault pulled his crew together, and no of them could say they saw it came from UMD's bench. Out pops Lenz, no minor.

I don't want to start fights, but I get tired of the Miller bashing about sportsmanship. Miller doesn't get coach of the year awards because yes, she is polarizing, but that doesn't mean she is a bad sport and doesn't deserve them. If you look at who we have on the ice this year, admit it, none of us thought this season would be pretty. This season is defining Miller has a coach. When your players are getting lit up, goalie is getting run, etc, yeah, I would be upset too. What UMD DOES NOT do typically is run the net, take cheap hits ( minus Irwin) play below the belt. Something teams like UND, MSU and St. Cloud do regularly. If I'm on the ice and I'm getting cheap shots, as a player, I want my coach protecting me.

The rest of the WCHA may bark poor sportsmanship, but I disagree. No one ever accused her of being a good loser, but she protects her players. And in my humble opinion, those coach of the year awards, epecially in the WCHA = a joke to anyone that regularly watches UMD play.
