Bulldogs 09-10 Season

Re: Bulldogs 09-10 Season

I hope Justine does well, I'm sorry things didn't work out for her with the Bulldogs, I hope she gets a chance to play hockey with another team and I sincerely wish her all the success in the world. If that's not clear enough, let me know.

Re: Bulldogs 09-10 Season

Perfectly said......and thank you for ending this long drawn out, beating a dead horse discussion(not pertaining to Fisher in any way) just the topic.

Time to continue and support the Bulldogs as they climb to the top!!!

Good luck Fisher in all your endeavors...........

Re: Bulldogs 09-10 Season

I realize this post is very premature . . . but . . . has anyone else noticed the absolute GLUT of goalies UMD could potentially have next season??
Santa, Harss, Steck, Gilderman, and from the commitments thread, Bonapace-Potvin.

I'm thinking Gilderman will not be asked back (makes me sad, it's such a great story). There do seem to be some legitimate questions on Martin "aging" out and thus the eligibility issue . . . any other thoughts?

Re: Bulldogs 09-10 Season

Whatever reason a player quits playing, whether grades (good or bad), personal reasons (good or bad) is not for speculation on a public forum. But it seems to be commonplace here. Players have been called "insignificant" players for chosing to move on with their lives, everyone always seems to think someones grades are bad if they choose to concentrate on their studies (some kids carried brutal course loads) and this is not always the case. As I have said before and will continue to say..."School first, hockey second".

Ms. Fisher is a good kid from a wonderful supportive family and the choice she has made is HER choice and only hers.

Did you not read the couple posts before this??? Thank you for once again beating a dead horse........(as stated b4, not referring to Fisher personally)
WE HAVE ALL ESTABLISHED THAT WE WISH FISHER GOOD LUCK IN ALL HER FUTURE ENDEAVORS AND THE CONVERSATION ABOUT ANYTHING ELSE IS DONE.......DONE DONE DONE DONE......

As a matter of fact this very thought has rolled through my head also.....what is one to do?? I believe with the core of the team from this year returning and the Olympians returning...the Bulldogs are going to be the team to beat........But yes, this conversation is a bit premature....The Bulldogs still have alot to do to finish strong this year!!!

The last one must be a typo. From a post on the High School Forum:

The MN JR Whitecaps just released this list of thier players who have committed for 2010 & 2011:
...
Michelle Bonapace-Potvin-University of North Dakota (WCHA)
Not to say that North Dakota won't also have an abundance of goalies next year.

I'm not really up on eligibility rules (there's a popular topic for UMD fans), but don't athletes have five years to complete four years of playing time? I might be misunderstanding your "aging out" reference.

Otherwise, I like the idea of any position being stacked with great players. I can't wait for next season!

Re: Bulldogs 09-10 Season

ARM: that seems like a great clarification on Potvin. I got the info from the commitments thread right here . . . and it lists her under UMD. Someone probably hit the "M" key instead of the "N" key. Thanks!

Joe: the aging out is in refernce to a player's actual age. There are others that know the rules better than myself, but, it was the reason Michaela Lanzl could not play again . . . she was too old. I think it's 25. It may depend on the actual day the birthday falls - there is some kind of cut-off.

Lanzl's eligibility may have expired due to this NCAA rule:
In Division I only, if a student-athlete has participated as an individual or as a team representative in organized sports competition, that kind of participation during each 12-month period after his/her 21st birthday and prior to initial full-time collegiate enrollment will count as one year of varsity competition in that sport. Any participation in organized competition during time spent in the U.S. armed services will be excepted.
Maybe Martin is good to go -- there are precedents for waivers being granted for national team participation anyway.

I don't expect Gilderman back.. I think I posted that a while back.. you never know though.

EDIT time since I didn't read the whole **** thread the first time! :D

Re: Bulldogs 09-10 Season

Friddy and Harss are WCHA players of the week again this week. Did anybody doubt it? :D

Nope, I even posted it late Saturday night on the blog.

I didn't post the third part.. I thought Katie Wilson would have a good shot at giving UMD a POW sweep... A goal and 3 assists against Minnesota.. but I guess Holly Perkins 2 goals 1 Assist against OSU Saturday trumps Wilson's weekend.

Re: Bulldogs 09-10 Season

It's a great day to be a Dog fan!!! Jenny, Friddy the "Championship Belt", sweep of the Rodents and #2 (tie) in the National poll.

Re: Bulldogs 09-10 Season

So if I'm doing the math correctly (which is rarely the case), if the Dogs sweep Ohio State and Bemidji, the Gophers will have to win three of their last four to take the regular season WCHA title. I can see Wisconsin taking one game from them and who knows what St. Cloud will do with a home/home series. They've been a surprise this season. These next two weekends could get real interesting!

Re: Bulldogs 09-10 Season

Correct.. if the Gophers get 6 points in their 4 remaining games, UMD can't catch them... the tie and shootout stats really come into play (and the talk in the WCHA thread) with the Gophers having 2 more shootout wins and those extra 2 points in the conference over UMD.

Re: Bulldogs 09-10 Season

Defense will be the key this weekend. The teams are pretty even in goals per game with OSU at 3.17 and the Dogs at 3.13. But goals against are another story. UMD is at 1.93 and OSU at a generous 3.07. And their starting goalie is giving up 2.94 goals per game and playing pretty much a .500 season. She's beatable.

As long as the Dogs remember to play defense and shut down scoring opportunities, with Harss in the net I don't see the Buckeyes doing much. Special teams probably won't be a factor. Neither team's power play is anything to write home about and the penalty kills are pretty much even, too. Add in the variables like being on the road and the obvious Big Mo being on UMD's side lately, etc., and the Dogs should sweep for the fifth consecutive weekend.

The teams actually have the WCHA's 2nd and 3rd best PP units, even if the percentages don't jump off the page. Beyond the numbers, OSU may have as much firepower up front as UMD, so they have the potential to do some damage.

On paper that's true, but this has been the type of series where UMD has historically bonked. If UMD comes out like they did in the 1st period a week ago, it won't be easy. The flip side is that the Buckeyes have been known to show signs of fatigue by February in the past, when perhaps all of that travel starts to take a toll. I expect the Bulldogs to sweep, but I think at least one game will be close to the end.

Re: Bulldogs 09-10 Season

UMD will sweep by a couple goals each day.. but I really wanna see Hokey Langan play after reading about her most of the season.
