Bulldogs 09-10 Season

Re: Bulldogs 09-10 Season

As soon as UMD got up 2-0.. they shut down and stopped playing.. allowing Mankato to come all the way back and score the game winner (Ashley Young) with 34 seconds left in the game. I can't blame the intermission ceremony either since the players and coaches, besides McAteer of course, weren't part of it and the intermission was the normal length. Besides that, Wong put UMD up 2-0 4 minutes into the period

Friddy didn't play tonight and that was obvious from the start, even when UMD was playing decent, you knew there was a spark missing. I don't know if there were any injuries, but Kacy Ambroz seemed to play a lot more in the third period than the rest of the game.

Re: Bulldogs 09-10 Season

They seemed to play ok for 23 minutes of the night, but the rest was painful. They did quit playing, passing, and trying for pucks. Ambroz did seem to get more ice time and was much more active with the puck than I have seen her. At the end of the first period, UMD had an almost 2:1 SOG advantage. I think the game went to the team who had a little more desire tonight. Hopefully tomorrow will be a different story.

Re: Bulldogs 09-10 Season

Vikings rolling over Seattle, and I'm getting ready to hopefully watch 60 minutes of good hockey after what we saw yesterday ;)

Saving the thread from page 2 ;)

I expect the Dogs to split with BC.. not sure if Friddy's making the trip (or playing if she is) but I'd like to see her sit one more weekend before the Badger series with her nagging shoulder problems. It's not like it'll really keep her from having problems but the time off might keep her from injuring worse? The only thing I really know about that sort of injury is that it's a recurring injury that could require surgery or a long time to completely heal where it's not nagging?

I have photos posted from the Saturday loss to Mankato State. Use my link below. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to attend Sunday's game.

Re: Bulldogs 09-10 Season

I think we all overlooked this early signing period article.... Besides Gallop, UMD has 4 other highly skilled players joining the team next season...

The Bulldogs new signees include forward Dana Gallop (Grand Rapids, Minnesota), forward Jamie Kenyon (Sparta, Wisconsin), forward Jenna McParland (Schreiber, Ontario), forward Brienna Gillanders (Kyle, Saskatchewan), and defenseman Noora Jaakkola (Toijala, Finland).

Binnyrus had it in the commitments thread a week ago. Either you need to get around more, or your memory is deteriorating like mine has.;)

Re: Bulldogs 09-10 Season

I haven't looked at the commitments thread in a couple months. I guess being busy (even moreso with boys hockey starting Saturday and basketball also) takes away from USCHO time ;) Since I never saw it in *THIS* thread I had to throw it out there :D

I talked to Friddy after last Sunday's game and she told me she would back on the ice for the BC series. Didn't post since it would depend on what the medical folks and coach say. Will be back for the BC series as confirmed by the UMD web site: http://www.umdbulldogs.com/teams-womens-hockey.php?id=4709&page=news and the DNT: http://www.duluthnewstribune.com/event/article/id/153186/group/Sports/

Re: Bulldogs 09-10 Season

UMD beats BC 3-0... Wilson, Cournoyer, and Friddy light the lamp, and Jenny Harss stops 22 Eagle shots.

fyi, #19 put ice on her left shoulder on the bench atleast once - remember mostly because the play prior didn't seem to involve it.

Friddy has had a nagging shoulder problem that on occasion this season has meant sitting out a period or as last weekend, a whole series. I'm not doctor (and I didn't stay at a Holiday Inn Express either) but I've got a feeling some sort of post-season surgery may be called for to eliminate the problem entirely.

Re: Bulldogs 09-10 Season

Katie Wilson hat-trick.. UMD sweeps Boston College with 5-1 victory.

There are two series left in the 2009 portion of the schedule, at Madison next weekend and home against Bemidji State. 6 points would look really nice in league standings (though 8 would be even better -duh!)

Re: Bulldogs 09-10 Season

Two really good things about the sweep in BC: 1.) They beat a team, rather handily, that they should and 2.)Scoring from Wilson. Hopefully that means the Freshman are finding their places - contributing and leading. It's what UMD will need during the Olympics . . .

Big series against WI this weekend. If UMD can come away with a couple of wins it should put them in a good place at the break.

Way to go Dogs!!

Even though UMD does pretty well against UW, you don't sweep them that often. The last official sweep was in November of 2004 (the dreaded asterisks of the 2007-2008 season come into play.) The 'Dogs did have a 4-point weekend last year with a shootout win.

Don't forget.. they also have to beat Bemidji at the DECC after the Wisconsin series... then we can talk break ;)

Re: Bulldogs 09-10 Season

Friddy (with 99 pts) should become the third member of this year's team (Blais this year, Tuominen last year) with 100 career points, with an assist or goal against Wisconsin this weekend.

Re: Bulldogs 09-10 Season

True, UMD and WI don't normally sweep one another, but I do think it's well within reach for the Dogs this season. The first games of series have been problematic for them this year and it will be interesting to see how they come out in that Friday afternoon game.

And yes, there's still Bemidji. I'm certainly not taking it for granted, but with the decisive wins over BC I'm more hopeful than earlier in the season that UMD can "take care of business".

Lastly, I have all the confidence in the world that Friddy reaches 100 this weekend. I have the impression (though not necessarily the facts to back it up) that both Friddy and Tuominen play really well against Bucky. I expect #23 to play better than ususal in her last regular season trip to Mad town.

Go Dogs!!!

Though you are speaking of UMD, that sentence applies even more to Bucky. Off as they've been, the Badgers are the only team in the WCHA who haven't been swept this year. They haven't even lost a series.
