Re: BU season thread I - 2014-2015

Waaah. Next you are going to tell me Eichel grew up a BC fan! :p

it was in the freaking article either here or in the globe. God youze people are sensitive. Like i made the friggin story up, give me a break

Re: BU season thread I - 2014-2015

Another Cheerleader! :)

Felger did five minutes on Eichel this afternoon. My favorite line: If the Bruins somehow got him, Claude would have him traded after two years because he wasn't strong enough in the corners. #Truth

Tomorrows game has more significance to me because the team has a four game losing streaking against Harvard. Then they can go lose to Colgate.

Re: BU season thread I - 2014-2015

Obviously Eichel. Gaudreau had 44 points as a freshman with a star studded cast, Eichel on pace for 65 with 1/10th the surrounding talent

Gaudreau skated with Mullane and Carey on a natl championship team, Eichel skates with a team that was 1-103 last year

And look at the box scores. Eichel has had different linematyes in several games. Look at their production when they are on his line vs when not...
Ummm... you are Sooooooooooo fickle hoky.
Eichel will be on pace to score 100 points after Tuesday.

... that looks to be pretty obvious sarcasm, Tater even included the smilie.

Re: BU season thread I - 2014-2015

felger went a little overboard saying eichel skated around the entire maine team and roofed it. he skated by one guy and before he could skate by anyone else he shot the puck. also looked like the shot went five hole. but the impressive part was it looked like he shot it through legs of dman. i'd have to go back and watch it again though.

Re: BU season thread I - 2014-2015

Really?? So in your eyes if a kid is promised a 3/4 for example and does not develop as expected, the coach should be able to take scholarship away? Even if the coach was the one in charge of his development. Kid gave up other offers to other schools based upon these representations and now coach can pull it so HE might be able to win an extra game or two? Strange concept..

I highly doubt any of these coaches who make their "offers" have ever said, we will give you a 3/4 but if you dont score, we will take it away!

Bs

Yes, that's exactly what I'm saying. Put aside your emotions and look at this in the cold-blooded manner they'll have to deal with once they leave college. You either 1) meet expectations, or 2) get cut. A lot, and I mean a lot, of BU players have loafed once they get their free ride over here. Hung over before games, years worth of stupid penalties, lackluster play, etc. I don't want to can somebody who's working hard every shift and giving as much as they can even if they aren't the most talented guy out there. I do want to get rid of players who are taking their scholarships for granted, and it sure seems like we've had a roster full of those in recent memory.

Not agreeing or disagreeing with either you or Hoky but was wondering about whether what you (Rover) would like to see is even allowed by the NCAA. I mean, if it's late August and a kid has a scholarship and has registered for the school year and then someone like a Gaudreau becomes available, can you yank the scholarship of the loafer so close to when school is in session? I'm thinking no because if it was allowed we probably would be seeing it happen more.

Of course it is not allowed. Player gets the right to appeal to a 3 member committee that is outside the athletic dept. Can not take away because of performance.
Sadly kids feel embarressed and leave or want to continue playing. These are not pro athletes and Rovers comments is wrong, "look at this in the cold-blooded manner they'll have to deal with once they leave college. You either 1) meet expectations, or 2) get cut."
Last time I checked, they didnt leave college...

Coaches dont tell them this scenario could happen and the school protects the players vs the coaches. As does the NCAA

Gary Williams the head coach at Maryland, as well as many other quality coaches say it best...

"Coaches who routinely "run off" players risk sullying their reputation — and losing recruits to other coaches who would point out that track record, he added."

"I don't know many coaches who do that," Williams said. "If you develop a reputation for doing that, you probably won't be coaching very long."

And they shouldnt be. Good coaches develop the players, bad coaches replace.

Perhaps schools should apply this mentality and sign every coach to no more than a 1yr contract? You don't perform and you are gone.

There are plenty of mercenary programs out there.

cant do that, have to buy these hacks out for big money. they have rights, it is a contract, isnt it? Last time I checked a verbal contract is just as binding.

"Hi big guy, we would love you to come and be part of our program. We are going to offer you a 3/4 scholarship and cant wait to get you here"!!

Never once was it said, "if you dont perform well or take a stupid penalty, you will be bullied and kicked off team, scholarship revoked and sit out one year"

"I on the other hand can leave, get a pay raise, start coaching next day and screw a bunch of college kids over"

NCAA is a farce

What have you done with the far left wing Rover? Just think of a college scholarship player as a welfare recipient who is not able to get a job and you will understand! :D:cool:

Re: BU season thread I - 2014-2015

I heard there's a game tonight. Or are we still stuck in a labor dispute?

What do we want?!?!

Guaranteed scholarships!!!

When do we want 'em!?!

Preferably prior to tonight's game!!!

Re: BU season thread I - 2014-2015

Too many bleeding heart liberals out here. :D While this doesn't affect the Gaudreau situation, who in their right mind thinks John Sabo deserved 4 years for free at BU? Yes, I would clearly yank his scholarship and tell him too f'in bad, subject to NCAA rules of course as I'm not suggesting we pull a Maine under Walshy over here. I'm not advocating running hard working kids off, but really, have you people been watching the games over the last decade and a half, save for 2009? Following hoky's logic, we'd never be able to get anybody out of the program for anything short of sexual assault for fear of scaring off potential recruits. Most of these kids are in their 20's already. They ought to be able to figure it out. If they were on academic scholarships, you don't get 4 years to prove yourself with your grades. You get 1. Why are we supposed to cut athletes special breaks?

Should Quinn be coaching this year after last year's performance?

Well, when he went all shod foot outside of The Avenue, Parker probably could have cut him justifiably to get that scholarship back but...
