Re: BU season thread I - 2014-2015

Harvard owns our ***. 4-2 final. Back to #3 next week.

Re: BU season thread I - 2014-2015

Should Quinn be coaching this year after last year's performance?

A stupid question, considering he inherited all of the players. If he continued to have bad seasons with all his own guys? Then yeah, his job would be in trouble..

Re: BU season thread I - 2014-2015

Well, when he went all shod foot outside of The Avenue, Parker probably could have cut him justifiably to get that scholarship back but...

He would have been off the team before that if I was running things. :D Guy was a total bust. Couldn't shoot, skate, pass, hit people, or play D. But everybody tells me BC really wanted him too... ;)

Yes and there lies your inconsistency. A coach inherited players so he needs time to stretch his wings and establish his systems etc....and yet a player is not given the same chance to develop to a faster game, playing older players, learning a new system, learning to play for a new coach, etc.

Re: BU season thread I - 2014-2015

To my knowledge, scholarships are not guaranteed. A recent example is Brett Bennett.

The question is, how often should you pull one, and does it indeed raise questions in the eyes of future recruits?

You seem to be a little confused about this. I'm not advocating sh! t canning someone after one disappointing year. However if someone has a track record of a) loafing, b) bad behavior, or c) being too drunk/hung over to play up to their abilities, they ARE NOT guaranteed a 4 year scholarship. Scholarships aren't papal edicts. They can be rescinded fairly quickly. As I say again to you, if you have an academic scholarship as I had, you don't get 3 years to get your grades up. You get 1. Why do you want to tell these kids basically anything goes once you get granted one until you decide to leave or graduate?

He, and the others, were welcome to stay and use their scholarship to finish their degree. They just weren't going to play hockey with that education grant.

Yep, then sad old BC had to go use that scholarship on some guy named Krys Kolanos.

ps - I heard some interesting news from some mutual BU pals at the BC-BU game. I propose a night out at T's with the crew.

if BU wins tonight, hoky will say "big deal, Harvard will win the Beanpot game"

BTW 4 year guaranteed scholarships is one of the things the power 5 conferences are pushing for (and several schools have already adopted)

Re: BU season thread I - 2014-2015

Or after tonight when they lose to Harvard??

BU wins 12-0 (every goal is reviewed). Eichel has 9 goals, Piccinich nets his first as a Terrier on a penalty shot. Hohmann gets a pair and Brandon Hickey gets 12 assists. O'Connor makes 57 saves in the shutout. Quinn walks into the postgame responds to first question with "2015 National Champs" drops mic.

Re: BU season thread I - 2014-2015

looking forward to watching this game on NESN. wait, what's that you say? NESN is actually showing a rematch of UMass-UVM??? maybe it will only be 10-1 this time. too bad it's not like the NFL where they can cut out of the normally scheduled game if it's a blowout

Re: BU season thread I - 2014-2015

Traffic is a major fustercluck out there. It's Tuesday, nothing good for me ever happens on a Tuesday. Migraine starting up again. Many other first world problems here in the Club Room for dinner. It all adds up to a nightmare here tonight. Even without Hoky's spot on prediction.

Brutal traffic on Comm Ave. don't start without me :)

I wasn't expecting a big crowd tonight anyway but it was so bad just driving over from Back Bay that I envision many people showing up close to the end of the 1st period.

Also, the team is wearing their regular home whites tonight. I thought they were wearing their alternates because they kept winning in them. Hmmmm.

In Bennett's case, I'm not sure that is true. In most cases that is correct. Scholarships however, are not guaranteed.

When i lived closer to the city, I used to enjoy the Tuesday before turkey game.... After that drive in though, I hope they never do this again.
