BU season thread I - 2014-2015

Re: BU season thread I - 2014-2015

Okay, the part I don't get is how did BC get him them? Presumably York was in the same situation as Parker, in that his scholarships were all allocated, so what gives?

from the BC side of things, think it was samuelsson leaving which opened one up

This is correct, BC lost a D in the offseason, but returned 6 others who played regularly and were already bringing in a freshman to be the 7th D. York had the luxury to choose not to use a scholly on an 8th D, and then was rewarded for having an extra one available. Parker obviously wouldn't have been in that position if a forward left the team.

Furthermore, I am all for a player losing a schlorship if he isn't earning it on the ice. IIRC there's 18 full rides to give out, putting aside partials for a minute? Pick the 18th best player on the team still getting a free ride and tell them they aren't performing well enough to earn the equivalent of 60K a year. That's life, and that's what's going to happen if they play in any sort of professional league after college.

I would be fine with this if that is how coaches presented it to the high schoolers they are recruiting, but that isn't the case.

Re: BU season thread I - 2014-2015

2-BU was close to freeing up a scholarship for Gaudreau and it had nothing to do with Coyle (as Agganis correctly explains). Another player was going to give up a year but the family changed their mind. [No, I'm not going to say who it was] . Shortly after that fell through, BC had a scholarship open up.

Correct. "Disappointing" would be one word to use describe the sequence of events, esp. given the divergence between Gaudreau's impact at BC and the other player's impact at BU.

Not being able to bring Gaudreau to BU had nothing to do with JP's decision to retire.

For what it's worth, Rogie and Agganis have this story exactly right. And I agree with Rogie re not dropping a dime on the kid who changed his mind.

To me the more interesting question is whether if you had to pick either Gaudreau or Eichel for one season only, who would you take? They are very different kinds of players.

Obviously Eichel. Gaudreau had 44 points as a freshman with a star studded cast, Eichel on pace for 65 with 1/10th the surrounding talent

Gaudreau skated with Mullane and Carey on a natl championship team, Eichel skates with a team that was 1-103 last year

And look at the box scores. Eichel has had different linematyes in several games. Look at their production when they are on his line vs when not...

I thought Gaudreau hit the ground running pretty quick his freshman year, so presumably everyone knew what a talent he was.

See Brendan Collier.

Ridiculous that Harvard is only at #18 with one loss. Extra incentive for them, eh Scarlet!? :);)

I think it says more about their competition rather than them. Look at their wins, their wins against quality teams are BC, Union, and some might argue RPI. BC was slumping at the time, Union was (is?) in freefall. So maybe they should be higher but they haven't had any statement wins i guess. Same reason Michigan Tech took so long to get to #1

So when they win Tuesday night, where then are they ranked? ;)

Kidding aside... your boys got your hands full tomorrow night. H is a very solid team across the board.

Wow you're confident.
They never beat Johnny G, how the hell they gonna beat Jackie E? :D

Let me guess

Kevin Hayes, Bill Arnold, Chris Kreider, Pat Mullane, Paul Carey, Brian Dumoulin, Tommy Cross, Barry Almeida, Steve Witney, Pat Mullane et all.

Slightly different surrounding casts than Eichel has
