Re: BU season thread I - 2014-2015

Heading to Connecticut tomorrow. Not sure what to expect. Will they be tired? Connecticut is coming off a big win tonight.

hoping they are focused coming out of the gate. 1&2 lost tonight so the boys should know they win and they should be getting the #1 on their back for harvard tuesday.

let's see if we can have nice things :D

This teams record would be different without Eichel.

Discuss.

ya think? youze cleared out some deadwood, brought in the best player in the nation and he's on the ice for half the game making everyone on the ice with him better. To think he grew up liking Iggles and chooses Terriers:mad: This is one special player, one that any coach would drool for even for just the one year you will have him. BeJesus!

Re: BU season thread I - 2014-2015

Well I met Bobby Orr this morning and he said he was going to be at the BU game tonight with some "kid that may go to BU." So there's that. :)

So, any Number 4 sightings? As I recall, he had a few of those end-to-end rushes for the Bs.:D

Re: BU season thread I - 2014-2015

Of course it would be. BC's records the last three years would be very different without Gaudreau. The list of examples goes on and on.

Of course there are plenty of examples, but I'm having a hard time coming up with an example where I think the difference would be as dramatic. Seriously, we are 7-1-1 right now. What is our record without him? Something like 3-6-0?

Re: BU season thread I - 2014-2015

Maybe mookie or ericredaxe left because they were one of the fellows who were escorted out after a, um, scuffle in section 121.

Nahh… just tired kids. The 7:30 start is tougher on the little guys.

But a scuffle? Really? Does that mean we are relevant again? :D

Oh… Agganis does not have a section 121.

Bay State Bistro. Fail. Last year was the carved roast beef sandwiches… this year is a selection of chowder? Really? I bet the chowder is $7.02 also!

BC got incredibly lucky when Northeastern fired their coach and recruit Johnny Gaudreau went looking for a new school and asked Jack Parker if he had a scholarship and he did not. Hello BC . How different would that team have been without that incredible luck.

Re: BU season thread I - 2014-2015

Some random thoughts and responses:
- Somerby is darn close to being a beast already. No need to wait until his senior year. Plus, he is a high draft pick - unlikely he'll be here beyond three years.
- I too am a little concerned about how much this team relies on Eichel. I want him to pile up the points and win the Hobey, but I wish we had some of the other big end talent at forward that is coming in over the next two years. Everyone else works hard, but with Ballairgeon sick/out, only O'Regan and Rodrigues strike me as the type that can make some slick plays. Oksasen is great at burying the passes he is getting (hello senior year Jason Lawrence)
- Greer is projected as a 2nd to 3rd round pick. Keep in mind that he is the youngest player on the team, a couple months younger than Eichel. Many of us expressed concern about him coming in this year, especially after the Sam Kurker debacle. I think AJ shows more upside, but yeah, my guess is his stock has slipped, if just a little (still rated a "B" player by CSS last week).
- My reminiscing after seeing last nights result was to Tony Amonte's freshman season. BU lost to Maine at WBA, 3-2 on OT on a Jean-Yves Roy goal on Friday night, then won the next night 3-2 on an Amonte goal.
- Two tough trap games next on the schedule. What is up with UConn? They beat BC, Vermont, tie BU, but they lose to Sacred Heart (I think)? I would not be shocked if we lost to them today. Of course, the road record so far is a positive.

Re: BU season thread I - 2014-2015

I used to think it was Parker mumbling his way through the postgame press conferences. Guess not. Any chance BU can move the pressers out of that acoustical dead zone?

dunno... uconn tied the boys after they beat bc, so there is no sneaking up today. and harvard has been playing some dam good hockey this year. they'll be ready. of course they will sleep through the first period again :D, but i can't see them being trap games.

Re: BU season thread I - 2014-2015

Anybody see Red Gendron's press conference? Seems like an interesting character.

He's a character. A "hockey lifer" who finally got a head coaching position. Did he blame his players for missing assignments or say they aren't mentally tough enough to finish games?

and this relates to the topic in what way? There was no reference to BU getting lucky getting this guy if that what your post was about

You can make a reasonable argument that Somerby-Diffley is the most effective pairing in the D-zone so far. Tom Ryan pointed out how well Diffley handles playing on his off side and the timeliness of his pinches. Least heralded of the freshman Ds has been very solid.

Piccinich looks more and more comfortable on the second line. Once he get that first goal, his confidence should ratchet up even more. He knows how to get to the net. Hopefully Olsson returns for the 3 tough ECAC games.

Re: BU season thread I - 2014-2015

Should be atop the pole come Tuesday when Harvard visits, Mookie would hope

It should be noted that today, November 21, our Terriers have already earned as many points in Hockey East as they did all of lost season (typo intended). And their 13 (6-1-1) wins the tiebreaker (5-XX-3).

The Patriots record would be different without Brady.
The Revolutionary War would have been different without George Washington.
The earth would be different if an asteroid didn't kill the dinosaurs.

What's your point? Discuss what? :D

I thought the idea in recruiting was to get the NEXT best player(s). A few are/become can't miss, some develop, some regress, and a few leave you asking 'what were they thinking'. As impressed as we all are with Eichel, I think this year's frosh are a real strong group that should leave fans excited about the next few years

first it was gaudreau couldn't get by unh admissions and now it's that bu didn't have a scholarship. next it will be he didn't like merrimack's dining options.
