BU @ RPI, Saturday 12/11/10

Re: BU @ RPI, Saturday 12/11/10

that wasn't a 2 on 1. both BU defensemen were backing up (warsofsky on the left, noonan to his right) and letting RPI come forward. even if BU wasn't on the PP at the time, you need to step up and make contact, they instead were expecting the puck carrier to dump and change. lazy. incredibly lazy. something we've had to witness too often the past couple months.

Agreed. But just to clarify, the other d-man was Ruikka, not Noonan.

Really enjoyed the BU fans that were on this thread over the last few days, Very fair and they know there stuff.

Let me second this. Nice to have a sane conversation between two passionate fan bases. Good luck to you the rest of the season.

Third. Considering how most of these weekly threads for RPI have been mostly us moving part of our discussion here with little from the opponents, this thread has IMHO added a lot to the game.

If the trajectory of this team continues, we should have the pleasure of more well considered input form fans like these posters were. I really got quite a bit from their input and it was nice to have it be all about the GAME. You will be a busy man naming threads more frequently...

The BU fans but not appreciate the BRO if we play them next season. :D

Jenny and I have had the pleasure of sitting with the BU section at several NCAA tournament games-they are just as passionate and can be just as loud and rowdy as we are. But they know the game and appreciate a worthy opponent. And the colors blend in well with ours.

Quick question, was just reading the Hockey East blog update recapping this weekends games (to get the HE perspective) and noticed that RPI was referred to as "Spell-Check University"...does anyone know the relevance of that? The quip goes on to mention that BU was "sent back to Boston with it's tail between it's legs"...hahaha...priceless.

Really? it's tail between it's legs"? The editors on this site don't know that it's its tail between its legs? That's kind of embarrassing.

I suspect that they were referring to the difficulty that most people seem to have spelling "Rensselaer". Also it could be referring to RIP instead of RPI. Then again, Scarlet just pointed out that those who live by the sword, die by the sword. :)

Edit: Could someone provide a link?

...that was not a direct quote, "it's" versus "its" was my own grammatical error :( time to brush up on a few things ;)

Maybe it's Spell Check University because auto-correct tries to change RPI to RIP.

He's trying to say that after years of covering college hockey, he still hasn't bothered to learn how to spell Rensselaer as though it's some big deal, since anyone who knows anything knows that RPI is not only fine, it's preferable.

Re: BU @ RPI, Saturday 12/11/10

RPI is preferred? Has it always been that way? I thought Rensselaer used to be preferred as early as a few years ago...

RPI is preferred by everyone except the administration, who would have it be Rensselaer exclusively if they had their way.

Decent coverage from Schott. I don't think BU behaved all that badly until the very end of the game-I was not impressed that they did any gooning for most of the game-it was just a rough tough hard checking game and both teams took some hard shots. The last 3 minutes-well that was a different story and happens fairly often when a team is being beaten. Cudos to the RPI team for standing up as they did and not losing their cool.

Agreed. Schott went a little overboard. It just shows how dangerous it is to give some people access to the internet to blather. For the amount of time he has been covering college hockey, he should know more about the game.

By the way, I don't think he got any quotes from Jack Parker or the BU players about the game. If you are going to lay into a coach of his stature and a quality program like BU's I would think you owe them the chance to give their side of the story. Maybe they didn't want to talk, but I hope he at least tried to get to the BU people after the game.

Parker is passionate and volatile and has gone off like that in the past, but I agree with others on this forum who say it was just a good hard-fought game. At the end it did get a bit out of control. I think Parker's behavior contributed to it, as did that of both teams, though BU was clearly the worst offender the last two minutes. The officials lost control of the game in my opinion and that was also a factor.

This just adds to the lore of the rivalry. Ralph and some of the guys who have followed RPI longer than I have can tell you that there has never been any love lost between the two programs.
