BU @ RPI, Saturday 12/11/10

Re: BU @ RPI, Saturday 12/11/10

Parker is passionate and volatile and has gone off like that in the past, but I agree with others on this forum who say it was just a good hard-fought game. At the end it did get a bit out of control. I think Parker's behavior contributed to it, as did that of both teams, though BU was clearly the worst offender the last two minutes. The officials lost control of the game in my opinion and that was also a factor.

I don't think Capt. Jack deserved that amount of vitriol in Ken's column. That's why he (Jack) has been good because he is passionate. Ken apparently doesn't like when coaches show emotion. It is actually one of the things I love about college hockey. I think he should like it as a reporter because it is a good story instead of the standard "we gave it our best" lines that atheletes like Jeter and others give. Keep keeping it real Capt Jack, you crusty old SOB.

P.S. This country owes a debt of gratitude to Coach Parker, he helped produce Olympians like Silk, O'Callahan, Craig, Eurizone that help win the Gold Medal at the height of the Cold War.

By the way, I don't think he got any quotes from Jack Parker or the BU players about the game. If you are going to lay into a coach of his stature and a quality program like BU's I would think you owe them the chance to give their side of the story. Maybe they didn't want to talk, but I hope he at least tried to get to the BU people after the game.

I don't think he did. You don't necessarily have to in an opinion piece, but it certainly makes the article better if you do. That said, it's pretty tough to get both sides at RPI. There's no media room and the locker rooms are on opposite sides of the rink. You might've been able to get Parker and still get back in time for Appert, but I don't think any of the media there talked to both coaches.

As for the article itself, I agree with his general point, but he definitely goes overboard. I think Parker deserves at least some respect in an article like that, and I think BU deserves the acknowledgment that this is not how they typically behave.

No, he didn't need a quote, but should've at least gotten BU's side of the story if he was going to blast them. In fact, you don't need quotes to wrtie a good game story either. The game story only needs to convey the facts as witnessed by the reporter.

It is onlyabout a 60-second walk across the rink to the visitor's lockerroom. If you want to get some balance and insight from the other side you can get over there and back and have plenty of time to talk to RPI people, unless Appert is only allowing interviews for a short time, then it would make sense to get them first.

Re: BU @ RPI, Saturday 12/11/10

I wish I was there to see this game but I had work. I heard from friends that he officiating was horrid and that BU was not happy with the result that RPI handed them. I heard that there was a bad hit form behind missed and that is when things got a little crazy.

On the other side of the argument, Jack Parker is a staple in the hockey history and he does deserve a ton of respect. I think he at the end of the game should of let his frustrations be said and not heard. The game misconduct not agreed with. Turn off your rabbit ears ref. When you applied for the job "Thick Skin" is a requirment. Seems like the young man doing the game needs some more seasoning.

Completely disagree with this. Sure, every coach voices complaints to officials, but few, if any, take it to the level that Parker does on a consistent basis. I applaud a ref for not being bullied and actually standing up to JackPa.

You don't think it deserved some kind of response when JP and his assistants sought out the officials one at a time after the game to yell at them and give them the best slow clap they could muster? It's not like he was venting and they overheard, he made sure to openly mock each official on the ice personally with 3,000 people watching. JP being a living legend in college hockey doesn't give him a free pass to do whatever he wants.

While we may not like him, Hicks has been an official since 1999, while Dumas spent 6 years officiating in the NHL/AHL. I'm sure they've dealt with plenty. Nobody argues that it was a well-officiated game, but there were missed calls both ways, including a hit from behind not called on BU, and the open mugging of CJ Lee by two BU players in front of the net late in the game that resulted in a couple slaps on the wrist. I think the more appropriate response is to be happy the penalty was a meaningless misconduct at the final buzzer rather than the game DQs a couple of the BU players could have been hit with.

With the kind of stuff that we've seen people get away with in HE, I didn't see anything that warranted a DQ. Certainly not for Parker arguing. There probably should've been more penalties called earlier in the game to prevent the goonery that occurred, and when it happened, a quick clamp down and a talking to of both coaches that anymore would result in DQ's, however I didn't see any of that happen. The refs decided to take a laissez-faire approach to the game, and cherry pick some calls when they wanted to, and before they knew it, it got out of hand. But again, the officiating didn't determine the outcome, BU dug its own grave. It's just a little frustrating to hear some of these writers and fans of other teams whining about frustration penalties over the course of about five minutes in one game.

I hear you. Wasn't arguing for more on Parker, more the butt-end that Lee takes to the face which by the book calls for 5 and a game misconduct or DQ at the ref's discretion. A couple sets of matching minors and misconducts early in the third period probably would have put the kibosh on the scuffles, but by the time they broke out the whistles things had already gotten out of hand.

Let me guess, you disagree with what GRussinko said? If so, see your post to me.

Whether I agree or disagree with him is irrelevant. He is entitled to his opinions as he is an RPI fan and is posting on a game thread about the BU-RPI game. He has more credibility and the right to say something like that. You, on the other hand, just dislike Jack and BU enough that someone makes a statement like that and you have to agree. And tell everyone here that you did. That's what I'm not surprised about.

Re: BU @ RPI, Saturday 12/11/10

I'm glad some sports writer has the guts to tell the world what a classless fool Jack Parker is. The Boston writers kiss his butt constantly so its refreshing for anyone to tell it like it really is. Parker is a clown and his team is amongst the dirtiest in college hockey (as usual). The only thing the article missed was Warsofsky's consistent diving, but I'll take it for what it is. Good work to this writer!
