BU '23-'24 Season: Pandomania

Should be some barnburners between BC and BU this season. Look forward to the games.

Definitely looking forward to an injection of enthusiasm in the BU-BC games. Should be an electric atmosphere. BC-BU games always matter of course, but it's so much better when both teams are relevant on a national level, which should be the case this season.

Some think we are the best team in the land going into the season.

Will I finally get to return to St.Paul for the first time since 94?

Means nothing unless we can perform on the ice. Let’s go get it!
I just instinctively thought that BU would take a small step back this year but it seems it may be actually a big step up. Which of the losses from LY does everyone think will be the biggest to replace. I do think Caron will be a solid backstop not worried about goalie. All of the LY Frosh should be that much better this year so that’s scary. Is the other Celebrini a big pickup like the other Hutson was or just a favor for the star ?

I think without a doubt, Fensore is the toughest to replace. He was huge for this team last year. I will miss his incredible skating. Next up for me is Matt Brown. While he wasn't dominant and had some consistency issues, he head a great year for this team. I think all others, including JOB are not tough to replace.

Aiden Celebrini is good enough to have been drafted, albeit in the 7th round. So he isn't a huge get, but he should be able to work his way into the lineup. I would assume that Willander and Gavin McCarthy are likely to play bigger roles, at least early on. And he committed first, so it wasn't an after the fact addition to appease the family.

It is always interesting to see how much freshmen improve in year 2. We always think optimistically and almost assume they will each do better. Obviously Lane is already among the best players in the country so it would be hard for him to improve. I think Ryan Greene is very skilled and seemed to hit a wall after a strong first half. Quinn Hutson, Jeremy Wilmer and Devin Kaplan all played big roles and will likely improve their point totals just because they will see more ice time (I think).

Seeing Macklin and Lane Hutson on the same PP should be fun!

Looking through the roster, with no inside knowledge and very limited insight into what the freshman bring, I think:

Defense - Top 6: Case McCarthy, Cade Webber, Lane Hutson, Tom Willander, Ty Gallagher, and Gavin McCarthy. Seventh d could be Celebrini. That leaves Jarman, Page, and Frechette for depth.

Forward - Top 12: Celebrini, Greene, Peterson, Wilmer, Q. Hutson, Tuch, Kaplan, Zabaneh, Hughes, Stevens, Harvey, and Lachance. That would leave Grimes, Amonte, and Gorton for depth. I could see Jay working all of the forwards in early to see how they do.

That’s a strong deep group though Stevens penalties have always driven me crazy. Keep forgetting about Hughes that’s a big get I think he will flourish here. Other than L. Hutson and most likely M. Celebrini the best player to watch is Wilmer imo.

I'd also include Skoog as a hard to replace skater. 31 goals over two seasons. Plus that attitude and the knack of taking away a goalie's eyes at exactly the right time.

Agree with the top six Ds. We'll see who gets the nod in the Bentley game when Willander has to sit out. Also agree with the 12 Fs, although don't be surprised if 6'3" 205 Grimes claims a fourth line spot. Armstrong 2.0?

Who do you think Celebrini's wings will be? My guess: Wilmer and Kaplan.

Why does Willander have to sit out the Bentley game?

Let's not forget that Kaplan was a first line winger last season. He took too many dumb penalties and was streaky. I love his size and his shot, so hoping he cleans up the penalties and starts burring more pucks with increased maturity and strength.

Let's also not forget that they essentially skated 5 defensemen last season. This is an area that should see a big jump. I'm optimistic about the new goalies.

BU Hockey: High Expectations

Willander has to sit a game because he dressed (but did not play) for two games for the "pro" level team of the club he was part of.

Great point on the defense. It was pretty crazy how much Lane and Fensore were playing down the stretch.

Kaplan began the season on the fourth line, then moved up to the first line with Brown and Skoog, getting on the score sheet more frequently. When Phillips returned to the lineup, Kaplan went back to the fourth line with Armstrong and Stevens, and was on the 2[SUP]nd[/SUP] power play unit.

While he led the team with 49 PIMs including some really bad ones in the offensive zone, he took just 3 minors in the final 15 games.

Rogie,
was on your site and couldn’t find a page that showed where alums were signed to play this coming season.
mookie has plans to jump around Europe this winter and if any boys are skating about, mookie and family would welcome the chance to cheer them on.
if you have such info we’d be glad to see it.

gracias

Hi Mookie! There's no list of Terriers in Europe available yet, although I know David Warsofsky is back in Germany captaining Augsberger Panther. Patrick Harper played in Sweden last season, but is in the Arizona Coyotes camp now. BU Sports Information will have a list of Terriers on opening night NHL rosters and one for guys in the AHL/ECHL. Hopefully a Euro list will follow. Right now there are 29 in NHL camps.

You might be able to use something like this on EP to track where alums are playing. It will include incoming players as well, something to keep in mind.
