They can’t move up with a run in the HE tournament? Assuming not winning it

They can, but I believe I heard them say on the broadcast that now they have to go on the road to play at Providence, so given how they’re playing the chances are they might actually move down. Only time will tell…

Yea I wouldn't count out Umass. The bubble can be crazy and there's still some hockey left to be played. They go to Providence, which quite frankly, has been terrible the past few weeks. Personally, I'd pick them to win at Schneider next weekend. I also personally discount a lot of the road performances at Orono; obviously a tough place to play.

If all high seeds win in the first round, we get to face #7 Northeastern, oh joy! At least it would be at home I guess.

It's more simple than that. All it takes is for UNH and Northeastern to win. The PC-UMass and UConn-UVM results don't matter for that to happen. Northeastern will be in a win or go home situation the rest of the way while BU is 91% locked into the #2 overall seed and can fall no further than 3rd.

BU would skate circles around NU like the Beanpot but this time come away with the W

Oh, this Providence-UMass QF game is massive for BU. I am assuming BU can't catch BC in PWR now? Correct me if that is wrong. But I'm sure you will be rooting for Providence because if UMass wins and stays in contention for an at-large you guys would be heading to Missouri instead of Springfield.

Providence is playing like ass too if we're being honest. Neither team wants to grab a spot!

Well, I think there a sssllliiimmm chance. If BC gets beat in the quarterfinals and BU wins and wins the HE championship. The BC loss combined with BU wins over ranked teams might make it possible to overtake BC. Yeah, I know, I’m dreaming!

Regarding BU and UMass both in Springfield, a USCHO article states:
  • “If five or more teams from one conference are selected to the championship, the committee may protect integrity of the bracket (i.e., maintaining the pairing process according to seed may take priority over avoidance of first-round conference matchups).”
This makes much more sense than sending BU out west and forcing another #1 seed to travel to Massachusetts. Of course, the NCAA will make their own decisions in the end, but fingers crossed.

While that's correct, I believe this has only been used to create an first round conference matchup in extreme cases such as four teams from the same conference on two (1-4, 2-3) corresponding seed lines. We'll see how this plays out, but I'm not sure this would happen.

Not to mention, the loser of the PC-UMass game is almost certainly out, meaning HE's chances of five bids that include UMass is low.

I see our game on Saturday has moved from 4:00 to 4:15. Wouldn't it be better if it was 4:30 instead? Have BU's game start when the first period of the first game is almost over rather than early to midway thru the first. The evening games are 7:00 and 7:30.

Thanks for posting this. I was about to make post-game dinner reservations based on the already reported in multiple channels 4pm start.

I saw a Tweet this morning that BU is pretty much locked into a #1 seed regardless of how the HE tournament plays out.

Regarding this coming weekend: I'm flipping the script. I WANT NU on Saturday. Getting the toughest match-up (with the extra motivation of the Beanpot Debacle) will be good for this team. Bring it!

I think I know the answer to this but am asking it here anyway - are we now done with 3x3 5-minute OT then shootout? Is it now 20-minute sudden death OT starting this week?

I kinda thought that scoring a hat trick would mean getting the number one star. I know Macklin had another multi point game but I feel that Quinn should’ve got the number one star over Macklin.

That said, great way to end the regular season!

CONSPIRACY!

He was also honored with the Hockey East Three Stars Award as he compiled the highest total number of points earned when named a first, second, or third star of the game in Hockey East contests.
- from the HE Awards press release
How many "points" did MC need on Saturday to secure the award?

All, Am I correct that for every team that gets an NCAA tournament auto bid that is NOT in the top 16 in RPI/pairwise then one team from top 16 doesn't get in? So, if two auto bids go to teams outside top 16 in RPI/pairwise then 1-14 get in? Or is it not that simple?

Not sure when the voting takes place for the 3 stars. The hat trick may have come after the voting since there were only 6 seconds left...

Correct.

Good article in the Globe today on Macklin.

Although did they really need to mention BC’s #1 ranking in an article about BU?!
