BU '23-'24 Season: Pandomania

BC is going to send you guys packing if you don't pick it up. BU looked very beatable against a poor NU squad with statistically the worst goalie in HE.

I’m really not thinking so. BU looked great for about 90% of the game. Great possession time in the offensive zone. Lots of great chances in front. Play with great pace and sharp passing most of the time. NU goalie made some great saves. Hit some iron. Just had 1 soft goal and a few turnovers that ended up in the net. First game with the full team after the break. Like I said earlier it was a win that left me unsatisfied since we really dominated most of the game - also it was an OT win at home against a middle PWR/RPI opponent which I can’t stand since we actually lost RPI Value (only slightly better than a tie result). At least we got 2 of 3 league points. Not a horrible result, but would have liked better.

The games against BC shape up to be superb! Very Beatable? No evidence whatsoever to support that - just a few things to clean up. Either team can lose if they make enough key mistakes for sure. That goes for any night against just about every team in D1 these days.

Don't flatter yourselves. Last night was just another game to NU. OTOH, February 12th is only a month away!

Shooting for the 3rd place game vs the terriors??

it’s ok to admit it. We all know mookie was right the first time.

do have some credit to share the red headed step kids.
mookie was part of a review panel for some trainee presentations and out of 16 the top 2 were a pair of ladies who attended nu.
mookie was quite vocal in recommending them for permanent positions. Had to give credit when due.

1. The first period of Tuesday's game was as good as i have ever seen any college hockey team (BU) look against another decent team (NU, not a great team, but not awful).
2. BU (and BC) SHOULD be winning games against NU. Not sure why the above comments are dripping with NU is such a big joke, as if they don't even belong on the same ice.
3. BU (and BC) are scary talented this year, but that is not new. Every year they have more top end talent than virtually every team in the country, it has been that way for a very long time.

Prior to 2017, BU dominated NU for quite a while, there is no arguing that.

However, since the 2017-18 season, BU is 6-9-1 against NU. If you count the Beanpot OT "loss" last year, BU is 6-10-1 over that stretch, and of the 6 wins: Two were in OT. One was a 1-0 win (no Levi).
There is nothing there that screams every game for BU against NU is an automatic "W".

Its fine to say BU is great this year, but as our group was watching the game, we had just gotten through lauding BU, but also that BU is a little to cocky and they lose focus, and that their goaltending is very good, but not great........ ..and literally the puck trickled past Caron.

BU has the talent to go all the way, but the whole "need to clean a few things up, that's all" has been going on for quite a while against NU.

Such a surprise -not! I wouldn't credit him with being a mucker. He appears to lack the physical strength, or perhaps the willingness, to live up to the potential he showed before college.
Big disappointment yes he’s a JAG. 4th liner or sitting wouldn’t be below him.

I would love to hear the background story on Hughes. He was a young freshman at NU and his play indicated that he would have even better sophomore and junior years before possibly turning pro as an early second round draft pick. Then his play absolutely cratered and he transferred. (Doesn't that pipeline usually flow the other way?) I know he was hurt and that's part of it. Seems like there was more to it than that.

I'm not sure what Beanpot OT "loss" last year you're talking about Northeastern beat BU 3-1 in last years Beanpot, the OT "loss" was in 2020. BU is 6-9-3 vs NU since 2017-18, 3 of NU's wins have been in OT (4 if you want to count the 2020 Beanpot "win"). In that span both teams have recorded 2 shutouts. Not sure why Levi not being there discounted the 1-0 win, Semptimphelter stood on his head, the game probably doesn't go much differently with Levi. If we're going to cherry pick records: if you start with the 2016-17 the teams are 9-9-4, if you start with the 2018-19 seasons the teams are 6-6-3. So the crux of your argument is that NU went 3-0 vs BU in 2017-18

Just bought my ticket for tonight. Had to get resale - only other option was standing room. I take that to mean the game is a sellout. I saw somewhere that it is also youth hockey night, so that could have something to do with it. Either way it should be a fun atmosphere. Don't forget the early start! (6:00).

I am predicting a big game for Ryan Greene. Only because at the earlier game at the Whit, I walked away with a signed Eichel photo that I have wanted for years, and they wear the same number :-)

Hughes is an interesting situation - he doesn't convert on many chances or create many, so you think 4th line. But he isn't a big physical cycling guy either. But I don't know that we have a better option if we sit him. Harvey needs more development time. Amonte isn't a scorer either.

I think standing room is a good option for tonight- The students have not yet returned to school so the 3 sections beind the goal at the Commonwelth avenue should be pretty free. I think I also saw somewhere they are using an alumni band tonight.

Need to be clean through the neutral zone and just inside our own blue line. Minimize turnovers and bad passes there. Offense will take care of itself. I think they will be better than Tuesday. Let’s go get this one!

Very sloppy play tonight and I don’t think they’ve won more than one face off. Not sure they realized the game was at 6:00.

Did the UNH player say something to Quinn that caused him to spear the UNH player? He looked mad going down the tunnel, the ref actually pushed him down the tunnel.

I guess I was wrong about being better than Tuesday. Something is a bit off tonight so far. Maybe that minute of 4 on 4 gets us going. That sequence was pretty good.

Took a lot of patience waiting for it, but it looks like the grind has gotten to UNH and we're getting through.

Great game by Caron - best to date with the Terriers! They got it done, but large portions of that game were horrendous. It was very uncomfortable to watch us break out of the zone for most of the game. Faceoffs were a disaster. Yes, UNH is looking good, but they shouldn’t have looked that good in an away game against this BU squad. Jay has some work to do this week. I’m sure they will work it out.

The UNH goalie was superb as well. Really just that first one which beat him - it was a great shot by Stevens.

Great college hockey game I guess. I imagine UNH is very disappointed in the result considering how many great chances they had.

I think there’s a shot Quinn Hutson could get a 1 game suspension for his very animated talk to the officials as he was led off the ice. Anyone else think that’s a possibility? I imagine the UNH guy who was on the receiving end of the spear did something to set him off and wasn’t seen or heard by the officials.

I would love to see this team start steamrolling some opponents. Every game is a struggle. Caron played as well as I have seen a BU goalie play in recent memory. Good to know he can steal one for us on occasion. With BC losing atleast I feel the gap between the 2 teams isn’t as much as I have thought recently. BC has looked like a wagon. Q Hutson put his team at a big disadvantage. Selfish move and he should be benched regardless of suspension. Zabaneh continues in my doghouse. He has not been an asset for most of the year quite the opposite.
