BU '23-'24 Season: Pandomania

When more than half the league would be in the tournament if it started today, it's difficult to expect anyone to start steamrolling anyone.

But in league play they are comfortably 1st in GF/G - a full half goal ahead of 2nd place BC. 3rd in GA/G - barely behind UNH and UML. With a full two game lead on BC in the standings, our league play overall has been nothing short of stellar.

I'm not sure what Beanpot OT "loss" last year you're talking about Northeastern beat BU 3-1 in last years Beanpot, the OT "loss" was in 2020. BU is 6-9-3 vs NU since 2017-18, 3 of NU's wins have been in OT (4 if you want to count the 2020 Beanpot "win"). In that span both teams have recorded 2 shutouts. Not sure why Levi not being there discounted the 1-0 win, Semptimphelter stood on his head, the game probably doesn't go much differently with Levi. If we're going to cherry pick records: if you start with the 2016-17 the teams are 9-9-4, if you start with the 2018-19 seasons the teams are 6-6-3. So the crux of your argument is that NU went 3-0 vs BU in 2017-18

Thank you for helping to make my point. You managed to:
1. Ignore the entire first part of my post, which said BU is a far more talented team than NU year after year, but the preceding posts seemed to imply NU doesn't belong on the same ice.
2. Ignore the part of my post that gave BU props prior to 2017.
3. Nit pick a typo from one line that didn't change anything about the record over the last 7 seasons. Were you seriously correcting my post to boast about BU being 6-9-3 (vice 6-10-1) against NU? Seriously?

So the crux of YOUR argument is that BU was not 6-10-1 again NU, they were 6-9-3? And then cherry-picked to proudly proclaim that BU is .500 against NU since 2016? Really?
I guess you would be happy to swap rosters, buildings, recruits, and coaches too?

The whole point was that BU always has more talent and resources than NU (and pretty everyone else for that matter), and should be dominant against NU every year, but NU has gotten the most out of who and what they have against BU in recent years. Congratulations on being .500 against NU, i think?

So the crux of your argument is that recently BU, predominantly the teams coached by Albie O'Connell, performed poorly against NU? Join the line.

I think standing room is a good option for tonight- The students have not yet returned to school so the 3 sections beind the goal at the Commonwelth avenue should be pretty free. I think I also saw somewhere they are using an alumni band tonight.

Yep! 90 strong! Too bad the PA shit the bed so no props.

Good teams find a way to win.

So, #1. Hoping we get to enjoy it for more than four days. :)

Yeah, me too. We’ve been hanging around the PWR at 1 or 2 for a while now, so I think they should be able to handle it. 2 at Vermont who is having a little better season then they have had recently. Then again, their recent 5 game win streak was against Union, Long Island and St Thomas. They are 10-9-1, but the meat of their schedule starts now with games against us, BC, Maine, and UNH. I don’t like their chances for the remainder of the season.

Kind of odd quote from Pandolfo re. the goalie situation, per boshockeyblog...

Pandolfo on the goalie rotation: “As of right now, we’re gonna just stick with Caron. Moving forward, I’m not exactly sure what we’ll do. We’re really just taking it one game at a time…Right now he is playing some pretty good hockey, so we’re gonna continue to go with him.”

Anybody know what's up with this/bringing in Lacroix? is there some worry Caron might leave?

It's the "moving forward I'm not exactly sure what we'll do" right after talking about Caron being the starter "as of right now" that strikes me as odd. If this is just about the backups, that's fine with me. The quote above isn't really about the backups, it's about Caron.

It's also interesting that Lacroix has been swapped in for Graham and Howard on different nights. Not a straight up swap for Howard (who to me was the third stringer before Lacroix's arrival).

Maybe. But why would Caron leave. He’s the #1 goalie on the #1 team in the country. Unless he’s headed for the NHL, which I doubt right now, he seems to have a pretty good gig.

I think it’s obvious by now that Caron is the only choice is Jay’s mind. There were a few times earlier in the season where I thought Caron looked a little shaky with puck control and rebounds and Graham would get an opportunity just to see what they had. Maybe split a weekend early in the season to see what they had -nope. I don’t know, maybe Graham wasn’t 100% and Jay didn’t want to aggravate an injury. I think Jay is just being careful what he says in public about the goaltending situation- doesn’t want to pour the gasoline on the fire with his backups. I think at this point Caron looks great and is up to the level of typical BU goalies. He gains confidence with every game. He is 4-1-1 on 2nd nights of back to backs. No real reason to play anyone else.

Yeah, I highly doubt Jay's comments meant anything negative about Caron. I think he is leaving the door open that if Lacroix shows a lot in practice and the team gets to a position where a win isn't as critical (I guess that would only be in the last couple games if we already have the RS title locked up), he would give Lacroix a start. No doubt he was brought in because the coaches weren't impressed enough with the other two.
