BU '23-'24 Season: Pandomania

Many starters out tonight, those who were dressed didn't play in many spots. The first two shooters in the shootout were Gorton and Jarman. That should tell you all you need about the volume of play from the normal starters.

They also outshot them 47-15, took 99 attempts, and hit five posts. Read nothing into that result.

I know this is an exhibition and doesn’t count (right???) but I’m not enjoying what I’m seeing here.

Yeah, lots of starters out but still would’ve hoped to beat them handily. As an exhibition, it shouldn’t affect the PairWise but it may have an effect on the Poll, which is basically an opinion survey. Not worried. The real games start again Tuesday.

Lots of shots and possession time for sure, but most of the regulars didn’t exactly look like they were moving at max game speed. Jay even mentioned most looked like they were treating it like an exhibition since it was! I think the goal of the game is to get some situational action, and don’t have any injuries. I think the goal was accomplished. Let’s beat Northeasten on Tuesday. Looking forward to league action!

Also, some good ice time for the non regulars. I'm not reading too much into it at all, its a "development" thing.

I think he’s going to be a good one too. Tough to crack this lineup this year.
Like him better than Gallagher. Harvey deserves regular time. Zabaneh skates and skates until he loses the puck. Hughes can’t put the puck in the ocean. Kaplan with one of those occasional stinkers ( he was mocked by Bernie). Exhibition but disappointing nonetheless, BC is schooling them tonite with half their team out.

I was just about to ask about Harvey. Given his USHL stats, I thought we’d see him more. How did he look last night?

Back to 1 in the PWR with the Maine tie tonight. Ends a 7 game win streak. The team to be very concerned about this year is Wisconsin. Got their 18th win already. They moved into 2 and have a 9 game winning streak - 4 of those shutouts, and 3 others they only gave up 1. Hastings has that team rolling! They will probably lose a few on the way in, but they are definitely FF material. That guy has some resume. Hasn’t won the whole thing yet, but I’m sure he will soon.

Agreed. The seven Ds regularly in the line-up all are NHL draft picks, but given the way Frechette played against Yale and SFU--simple, direct, physical--he'll increase the competition for that seventh spot, making the entire unit better.

Hopefully he doesn’t hit the portal at the end of the year.

The close game against SFU doesn't concern me at all. Certainly nothing like the terrible loss to the U18's earlier. I love that Jay gave Gorton and Jarman the first couple shootout attempts.

On Harvey - the last game I saw him play in, he was still a step behind. Not everyone can adjust to the next level - hopefully he can. But he isn't there yet from what I have seen. There is still half a season to continue to develop in practice.

BC’s Gauthier traded from Philly to Anaheim. Rumor is he told Philly he wouldn’t sign there, which makes me wonder if they were trying to do it now. Will be interesting to see if the Ducks try to sign him away mid-season.

He’s getting roasted on Twitter. Cue the Jerry Seinfeld GIF. #ThatsAShame. : )

There is absolutely no chance he signs mid-season. He'll sign once BC's season ends.

I was at the Garden last night for the Madonna concert and as she didn't take the stage till after 10pm, I wandered around the concourse. Saw the college hockey display with Beanpot and Hockey East champions. For the BU display, there is a red jersey, the pre-candy cane version, with the tie up collar. Number 9 captain. Whose jersey would that have been? The only #9 captain I recall is Brian McConnel. Am I missing one?

Steve Stirling was captain wearing #9 in 70-71. He was the Beanpot MVP (and an All-American) that season and later was inducted into the Beanpot Hall of Fame, but I don't believe BU wore tie-up collars back then.

Speaking of collars, wonder if the three WJC returnees who wore neck guards in the tournament will continue to do so.

I heard that on the news earlier… Got to say that hearing she went on stage almost 2 hours behind schedule made me glad I requested the refund for our tickets once the show was rescheduled from August.

Agreed no upside for Anaheim to bring him in and burn a year of FA. They aren’t making the playoffs. I think with the position BC is in this year competitively he would be excited to finish out the season.

How quickly everyone forgot two-year captain Logan Cockerill. The Garden took the jersey we sent for the display when his team won the '22 Beanpot and repurposed it for the Hockey East display.
