BU 2015 Offseason Thread-To quote The Clash - Should he stay or should he go?

Re: BU 2015 Offseason Thread-To quote The Clash - Should he stay or should he go?

Quick stab:
1-Oksanen-Baillargeon-O'Regan
2-Lane-Letunov-Greer
3-Greenway-JFK-Olsson
4-Carpenter-Moran-Roberto
5-Phelps-Lawrence-Kelley

Letunov and JFK are interchangeable with each other, as are Carpenter and Phelps.

Don't forget Cloonan. Will be interesting to see what his skill level is.

It will be interesting to see where he ends up. I would imagine most teams are pretty much set at this late date. He's a '94 so I don't believe another year of juniors is an option.

94 F Sean Mactavish commits to Anchorage. Former AJHL stand-out scorer had been committed to BU previously. Nice pull out of @USHL for UAA.

In a recent interview on The Pipeline Show, MacTavish said Quinn and the BU coaches were helping him to find a new landing spot. Parker had done the same thing in a couple of instance, one being with Russ Bartlett, a good scorer who simply refused to play the body. JP helped him land at St. Lawrence with his close friend Joe Marsh.

No way! Parker was evil! He didn't relate to his players! Nobody liked him! ;)

I suspect Quinn will use his experienced forwards plus playmaker/face off whiz JFK to create two effective lines that will contribute from the getgo.

Blog post on Cloonan's verbal to BU—Feb. 2015
BU has received a verbal from Junior Bruins (USPHL Premier) left wing Ryan Cloonan. The Longmeadow, Mass., native, who has 65 points (20G, 45A) thus far this season, is expected to join BU’s 2016 class of forwards, which includes Clayton Keller, Kieffer Bellows and Johnny McDermott.
A 1995 birthdate, Cloonan had originally committed to Maine several years ago, but decommitted due to a coaching change.

SB Nation:
Cloonan is a small forward, but he's shifty and has good hands. A gritty player who's not afraid to go into the dirty areas, he's got really good speed as well.

95 F Ryan Cloonan (@BostonJrBruins Premier) commits to BU. Slippery local talent for the Terriers, scores, makes use of space. 65 pts in 50.

Aug 2013-OverThe Boards--Ryan Cloonan, F, Waterloo Black Hawks

Cloonan is an electric skater and an absolute whiz with the puck. His quick feet and tricky stick-work never fail to throw the other team through loops and Cloonan is a real fan of the end-to-end rush that includes one or two attempts at a jaw-dropping deke. Elusive and the definition of ‘slippery’, Cloonan’s 150-pound frame may not be able to handle the college game just yet, but once he puts some weight on, Cloonan will be an absolute weapon.
The former UMaine commit not only teases defender with a breakneck top speed that he can reach within a second or two of accelerating, but is remarkably good at ducking any attempts at a hit and this propensity to avoid physical threats sometimes finds Cloonan in the ‘safest’ part of the ice and not necessarily the most dangerous part of the ice. In essence, what holds Cloonan back from making an impact at the NCAA-level, could also be holding him back from pure effectiveness at this level. Once he can hold his own in the tough areas instead of jetting in and out of them, Cloonan will be a major get. One of the players that plays fairly unselfish but seems to always have the puck at the end of his stick as well.

Seems we are very deep at forward, though how "high end" the top of that group will remain to be seen. How will O'Regan and Oksanen's numbers be without #9 feeding them? If they can hit 80% of last years totals, I think that will be a win. Baillargeon is a big question mark - I know he had the whole mono thing, but he didn't exactly light it up when he was supposedly healthy. Hopefully he still had lingering effects at the tail end of the season and he will be much better this year. While he did lead the team in scoring two years ago, I think that was with less than 30 points.

It will be very interesting to see where the freshmen end up. I know there wasn't as much buzz about Letunov this past season, likely since he had already been drafted, versus JFK who was entering his draft year. It would be great to have them centering two of the top three lines. And I sure hope someone like Carpenter can contribute.

Bottom line - these guys could use great depth with some individual skill sets to still be among the highest scoring teams in HE. Or they could regress the way the first team without Drury did.

Agreed about Baillargeon, who is working hard on his game this summer. As noted in a recent blog post, he's working on his shooting with Glen Tucker (Dr. Shot).

About 2/3 of Ahti's 17 second semester goals were not assisted by Eichel, but you have to assume that on the power play goals where #9 didn't get an assist, he was on the ice. Ahti is not the kind of player who creates offense by himself, but put him with a strong playmaker and he'll use his NHL-caliber shot and smart positioning to put shots on goal and finish frequently.
