BU 2015 Offseason Thread-To quote The Clash - Should he stay or should he go?

Re: BU 2015 Offseason Thread-To quote The Clash - Should he stay or should he go?

glad mookie has yet to pay for his tickets. 7 saturday afternoon games = insane

Re: BU 2015 Offseason Thread-To quote The Clash - Should he stay or should he go?

Well here's the reason:

“Based on positive feedback we've received regarding 4 p.m. starts, we’re looking forward to making this more commonplace for our Saturday contests at Agganis Arena,” said Boston University director of athletics Drew Marrochello. “We invite fans and their families along with youth teams and groups from across the Boston area to take advantage of the earlier starts and enjoy some of the very best college hockey in the country.”

Haha... what a bunch of B.S. Probably one person mailed in 100 times that they like afternoon starts.
Seems like everything that makes sense these days is doing a 180º turnaround. Holy crap.
Wait 'til they go to 7:00 a.m. starts. :D

Re: BU 2015 Offseason Thread-To quote The Clash - Should he stay or should he go?

$$$$$$

They are probably thinking this is best way to maximize attendance. Whether they are right or wrong, I have no idea. But to be honest I am actually surprised this hasn't happened sooner with team X, Y, Z

The interesting aspect of it to me is what kind of feedback they got from the league about it.

Re: BU 2015 Offseason Thread-To quote The Clash - Should he stay or should he go?

nobody that street parks told them they wanted afternoon games. them meters ain't free when you pull in at 330p and you will have a ticket when you get out at 6pm.

Re: BU 2015 Offseason Thread-To quote The Clash - Should he stay or should he go?

It might make some sense to do this in Jan-Feb but not in fall season with many outdoor activities
An additional problem for premium members is that they serve the meal at 2:30 not a very good time
TV schedule could change a couple of these games though

Re: BU 2015 Offseason Thread-To quote The Clash - Should he stay or should he go?

seems dumb to collect season ticket sales, and then drop the "oh, by the way were heard that y'all love saturday afternoon games so 7 of the 12 we have scheduled for saturday are now in the afternoon. don't forget to bring quarters!! (never mind, you'll get a ticket anyhow since you won't be out in 2 hrs).

mookie would really like to get an email with the survey results (since after all he did fill out the survey). then i could read for myself what these people liked.

Re: BU 2015 Offseason Thread-To quote The Clash - Should he stay or should he go?

Hmmm.

4pm Games

Acadia - I don't think this one counts
UConn - Eh, still not a huge draw. Probably helps with families having the earlier time.
Denver - Halloween. Probably good to have this one early for all those Trick or Treaters.
Providence - Yeah that one sucks. But more time to drink afterward if BU loses.
Michigan - see Providence, but there is a 7:30pm game the night before it
Vermont - See UConn
UNH - See UConn and Vermont

We all know Agganis has attendance woes especially for non-"name brand" schools. What's to fault them for trying to fix the problem. Providence and Michigan should be 7pm starts because they are marquee games, but the other ones, I'm okay with being at 4pm.

Mook, if you park on Egmont Street it's freeeeeeeeeeee

This is undoubtedly the biggest driver in the decision. Over the last 2 years I heard on multiple occasions the desire for more afternoon games. Reasons cited from the sources I heard this from include:

- what Drew quoted
- afternoon games open up Saturday evenings to post-game activities for fans
- attendance success for weekend afternoon games at high-profile men's basketball programs
- players prefer quicker turnaround from previous night's game

What I'm a bit surprised by is the # of 4pm games, especially how they're front-loaded in the Fall. I thought we'd see maybe 2 afternoon games in the Fall, followed by 2 more afternoon games in Jan-Feb.

I have mixed feelings, as I like having some afternoon games so I can have more Saturday nights open for other activities w/o missing games. But I also enjoy having Saturday afternoons free (or for other activities) as a lead-up to a 7pm game. Let's see what impact it has on attendance, especially on students and long-time season ticket holders.

Re: BU 2015 Offseason Thread-To quote The Clash - Should he stay or should he go?

those are 2 games in feb. NONE in jan.

odd that jan uma and bc and umo are left for 7pm saturday night. why those?

BC will undoubtedly be on TV, so 7pm start there. The other two I have no idea. As someone else mentioned, afternoon plans are more likely to be ruined in October than in January.

My guess is: BC is for TV, Maine is for travel times for both teams in Orono the night before, UMass is probably for travel time of the visitors in Amherst the night before.

Re: BU 2015 Offseason Thread-To quote The Clash - Should he stay or should he go?

have to decide what mookie will do. i know i am not coming in for those 7 afternoon games. so if i end up paying for 18 games but only come to 11 that seems silly.
may just drop a seat and then i'll have 2 empties on each side cause when i dropped 3 last time they did something stupid they have yet to sell them (outside a 2 games maybe as walk up).

at least they let mookie know before he paid for the season. (thank you)
