BU 2015 Offseason Thread-To quote The Clash - Should he stay or should he go?

Re: BU 2015 Offseason Thread-To quote The Clash - Should he stay or should he go?

My guess is: BC is for TV, Maine is for travel times for both teams in Orono the night before, UMass is probably for travel time of the visitors in Amherst the night before.

providence is almost same distance as amherst. that's a 4p

i also really don't get the play 7p friday then make the boys play again with little rest (11p-2p / 15 hrs).

and on that point the 4p start vs uhn after we play them up there the night before could have tired bodies come february.

I get your overall point but on a no traffic Saturday morning drive Amherst to Boston takes a bit under 2 hours and Providence to Boston takes under 1 hour. My guess also could be wrong.

regardless of the intelligence that went into this decision. mookie would like to thank mav and claver and pro for not screaming of the danger in letting bu hockey players out on a saturday night 3 hrs earlier to chase broads and booze it up :p

Re: BU 2015 Offseason Thread-To quote The Clash - Should he stay or should he go?

Hmmm.

4pm Games

Acadia - I don't think this one counts
UConn - Eh, still not a huge draw. Probably helps with families having the earlier time.
Denver - Halloween. Probably good to have this one early for all those Trick or Treaters.
Providence - Yeah that one sucks. But more time to drink afterward if BU loses.
Michigan - see Providence, but there is a 7:30pm game the night before it
Vermont - See UConn
UNH - See UConn and Vermont

We all know Agganis has attendance woes especially for non-"name brand" schools. What's to fault them for trying to fix the problem. Providence and Michigan should be 7pm starts because they are marquee games, but the other ones, I'm okay with being at 4pm.

Mook, if you park on Egmont Street it's freeeeeeeeeeee

Fix the problem by upsetting a segment of the people who already bought tickets? I'd also love to know where this "positive feedback" came from, single-game ticket parents who go to two games? Don't remember any solicitation of feedback from season ticket holders about this which would've been nice to have especially since the change seems to have been made largely from fan feedback. It's nice to see them trying something a bit different and to cater to a broader audience, but implementing it for so many games is puzzling. Putting Michigan, PC, and UNH at 4 pm is ludicrous, Denver would be too, but the point about Halloween makes sense.

While it doesn't affect my schedule to the point of missing games, I can see how some season ticket holders who've already purchased tickets would be very frustrated with the changes if they have families or other planned afternoon activities on Saturdays after which they would go to the BU game.

Interesting about the 4PM concept. I think I am a fan of the idea, although as mentioned maybe a couple of tweaks like shifting one or two from October to Jan may have been better. As a parent of younger kids the game time will certainly work better for their schedule.

As far as some of the individual games, yes maybe Michigan could have been a 7PM. The Halloween game is a wash… this one may have been smart to do as a true matinee game with a 1PM start. 4PM or 7PM the kids miss trick or treating either way if you go to the game. Maybe the UMass game would have been a better choice for a 4PM over Michigan.

I think many will end up liking it. People with kids will find it to be a better game time, the college kids probably don't care, for the crowd without kids the game will be over at a time that would be reasonable to go out for dinner then hang around for a few drinks.

Re: BU 2015 Offseason Thread-To quote The Clash - Should he stay or should he go?

so bu is encouraging fans to not partake in concessions and wait to eat and drink postgame?

interesting concept there.

or drink during the game AND after and then drive home drunk?

(and thank you for the cleaning up of the silly halloween excuse. my kids go out at 5p here so they could have gone and made the 7p game. too bad now little suckers!! :D )

Mookie, honestly, these kids are young and in tremendous shape (pedo plug - "Chez Boyle"... droooooool). By 4 pm they are recovered physically and the 3 hour difference makes absolutely no difference.

Well, we don't have to worry about that now thanks to the Task Force cleaning up Animal Agganis House. Been a while since we've had a Mary Carmichael reference though. :D

Re: BU 2015 Offseason Thread-To quote The Clash - Should he stay or should he go?

With the number of 4PM (dinner time) games, arena food becomes more of an issue.

I wonder if they will have remedied ongoing hot dog problem at the arena?

Will they have switched away from Nathans to a superior Kayem product? Will they have figured out a proper temperature control process? Are the fresh chopped onions here to stay?

People have different eating habits, obviously, but this time change makes it less likely I eat at the concession stands, as I'll be home by 7pm which is when I normally eat. Before a 7pm games sometimes I'd have an early dinner before heading into the game, other times I'd eat during the first intermission.

Either way I doubt the hot dogs will be better. I've actually never had one at HAA, because of the posts on this board.

Has Nathan's slipped that far? They were once the very best a quarter could buy. Nathan's in Oceanside, NY was my high school lunchroom and one of the centers of our social life. I haven't had one for years, but 2 dogs and a tub of their amazing fries was one of my principal food groups as I attempted to grow up. This is sad.:(

Re: BU 2015 Offseason Thread-To quote The Clash - Should he stay or should he go?

Based on the feedback in this forum as well as talking to a few few season tix holders about this, I'm not sure if the desired results (+ attendance) will be met. There's one game that the 4pm start might affect my ability to go, but my gut feeling is next season we'll either see a return to almost all 7pm starts, or they spread out the 4pm starts instead of front-loading them in the 1st semester.

Perhaps they could get smart and readjust a couple of the 4pms they've already scheduled? I see the thought process behind the 4pm time slot for some of the games against lesser opponents and the exhibition, in an effort to bring in more families and youth teams for games that don't sell very well, but are they really concerned about ticket sales for Michigan, Denver (I know, Halloween), PC, and UNH? If I was a season ticket holder who can't make 4pm games, I'd be pretty steamed that two of the biggest OOC home games, and the championship rematch are in the afternoon. Seeing as those were the most advertised games in offering season ticket packages, it'd feel a tad like a bait and switch since games have been 7-730 starts for eons.

Re: BU 2015 Offseason Thread-To quote The Clash - Should he stay or should he go?

This is one of the stupidest ideas in BU hockey history, right up there with whoever thought Tom Morrow on D was a good plan. If a 4PM start was such a swell idea for boosting attendance, one would think the pros or other colleges would have implemented this long ago.

Really happy I already ditched my season tickets. You get nothing for being a season ticket holder in that if they make the NCAA's no tix for you unless you also donate 10K a year, and attendance is sparse enough that you can easily pick up your seats for the games that you want to go to as long as the opponent isn't BC.
