Re: BU 2011-2012 Season: The bar is low, boys!

Here is another one!:p:rolleyes: I dont disappear if you guys beat us, i am more likely to disappear if we won as i NEVER was one to rub it in because i am a firm believer in the"what comes around, goes around" thing...............as i said in the BC tread it was a total arse whipping :o

you're one of the good ones. it's usually the three stooges who don't show up when things go wrong for the igles.

Re: BU 2011-2012 Season: The bar is low, boys!

Hasn't been mentioned, but how piissed must York and BC be that the team stick saluted the BU crowd on their home ice while they were standing in a circle while the band played what I assume is the BC alma mater song. Never seen an opposing team stick salute. Nice gesture from our guys, but that's gotta sting the BC guys.

hmmm, i didnt stay around for it this time, i usually do, but, ya know..........and not sure what the protocol is, so is what you are saying that while BC was stick saluting during the playing of the Alma Mater, which is customary, BU was also doing the same thing in front of their fans at the same time?

Re: BU 2011-2012 Season: The bar is low, boys!

Whoops. <----- Here's a guy that's had an identity crisis all morning. Mondays.

Yes, the BC guys were standing in a circle at center ice facing the band during the playing, and BU had skated by them over to the main section of BU fans, stick saluted them, then skated back past the BC guys while the band was still playing to get to the dressing room.

You know, I think the mods will change your name for you....

I don't see the salute as a big deal. Visiting teams have done it at Agganis, and it is just a quick thank you to the fans. Maybe I'd think different if we had a long time tradition of saluting the fans in a circle at center ice with the alma matter, but I really cant imagine there was any intent to "show up" BC or anything... it was just a quick thanks to the fans for making the trip to an away game.

Re: BU 2011-2012 Season: The bar is low, boys!

brass-slurpees;) i have never seen that before, not sure if it was an "in your face" sort of thing but that section was terrific quite honestly and deserved to be saluted ..................i guess:mad:

Re: BU 2011-2012 Season: The bar is low, boys!

And the coaching staff had them ready to play this game, clearly. In fact, coming off a heartbreaker on Friday night in which they played well enough to beat what could be the #1 team in the country today, but got screwed by a horrendous call late in the game to give Mack the PP and then a flukey bounce OT goal. To have the team back up and ready to go at 110% and beat down the #2 team in their own house is a credit to the coaching staff from top to bottom, who certainly share a burden of the blame for the shortcoming so far this season.

This.

I'd love for the mods to make the change, I tried to get in touch with them multiple times over the summer and no one responded to me. I even tried to purposely re-register a name using the same email address to get their attention, as another poster had told me he'd done that, but again no one got back to me, so I just went ahead and made a second one.

Not a big deal in the grand scheme of things, but I'm sure it'll only stoke the fire for the BC guys and they'll all be gunning for us that much more when we return in a couple of weeks.

If your fans are there, and you're excited enough, you salute them. I can't imagine that either team would think this was a huge offense, unless the BU squad deliberately tried to show up BC, which I have not heard from anybody to be the case (I was at the game but didn't see either salute). It sounds like no big deal and I wouldn't be offended if another team did it on our ice.

As far as older, nicely shaped, wacky liberal chicks go... Natalie Merchant is tops!! ;)

Re: BU 2011-2012 Season: The bar is low, boys!

Kudos to the team and the coaching staff (yes, I said it) for getting this team to put in two solid efforts this weekend, especially yesterday. Coming off the terrible game against Lowell, this team showed it still has fight left and there is still hope for a good season. I echo JD's and others responses about the fact that opinions/concerns by some BU fans including me, about the coaching of this team are not "knee-jerk reactions" based on a few games here or there - they are based on at least a decade of results. And I'll repeat what I said earlier, if Parker can prove us wrong, nobody will be happier than me. More games like yesterday will certainly help.

- The fear factor that usually accompanies playing at BC wasn't there once we killed the three penalties in the first period and got the third goal. The third period was dominnat by BU, as they really limited the scoring opportunities down the stretch.
- I liked Cisse's play a lot - he has more size than I realized, and he was certainly willing to use it
- Gill's backcheck on that 4-on-1 tells me all I need to know about how many dimensions he brings to the game.

Parker said he told the BU players to do it. I got a quote from Parker and a quote from Escobedo on fan support.

Escobedo: "Yeah. Obviously you could hear them. They were up high, but they were loud and we really appreciated that. That’s why we gave them that salute at the end of the game. For them to come out and support us on the road like that is awesome. Can’t speak enough about that. We have the greatest fans and we were lucky enough to have that."

Parker: "I thought it was great. I told my team to go out and salute them after the game. I thought it was fabulous that they were all there in their game jerseys. Those game jerseys cost a lot more than those t-shirts."

Re: BU 2011-2012 Season: The bar is low, boys!

... its more the coaching staff getting them to put in the effort.

Why do you assume that it's ALL on the coaching staff? I can't imagine that they're saying, "OK boys, let's play hard tonight because it's BC." What do they tell them the other nights, "Don't play hard tonight" ??? At some point players have to take responsibility for the effort they put forth (or don't put forth). Last time I checked, the coaches weren't skating, checking and shooting...

Then, why are these people drawing a salary? Hockey's not like football, where there's a 100 possible plays to run (and defend against) in the playbook. Getting the kids to give their best effort night in and night out, especially considering the age group we're talking about, is paramount to success. In fact, outside of recruitng its probably the top indicator of success. You could have a top notch team, but if nobody wants to play for you, the team will lose. It amazes me how some people expect zero accountability out of the coaching staff. In your opinion, what should we hold them responsible for? Anything?

Re: BU 2011-2012 Season: The bar is low, boys!

Seriously, my god Cleverly...give it a rest. People have the right to criticize Parker as he's certainly opened himself up for that criticism. With a win like that today, your team shouldn't be 4-4-1.

Absolutely. Parker is not above criticism, and he certainly shares in the blame and should take responsibility for the bad losses at Providence, vs. Holy Cross and at Lowell.
And I agree with Defkit, whose analysis of the coaching situation is not knee-jerk. I would agree that, in general, there has been too much underachievement over the past decade, and a lot of that points to Parker. Underachievement at BU can, and has, included getting home ice in the Hockey East playoffs.
BU has generally been pretty good, but could have been better. That isn't going to be enough to oust an iconic coach anywhere.

If BU continues to 'get up for the good opponents' and 'sleep-walk through the lesser lights,' throughout the season then it will be down to Parker.

The good news is the Terriers thoroughly whipped a #2 ranked BC at Conte Forum. The bad news is they have shown what they are capable of doing, and there should be no excuses for not showing up and playing hard all of the time. They can't control all of the results, but they can control their own effort.

Parker: Those game jerseys cost a lot more than those t-shirts."

i will say this, he never fails to deliver a dig at Boston College when ever he can or when he has the slightest opening. It's one thing for fans another for an esteemed coach................just another difference between the two of them

He does seem to have a thing about the t-shirts. Maybe, his zings are a means of jabbing his brother.

You guys need to go over and read mookie's posts in the Score Updates thread. Great job! Not sure why he was in there posting pretty much all on his own, but it made it funnier beause of it. :)

I was going to mention that, too. Mookie, you were on fire!

I really hope you aren't bruised by some ribbing from another team's coach.

Maybe, his zings are a means of jabbing his brother.

That's how I'd take it. I mean, what's he going to say? (In your best Ted Knight voice) "I would like to take this oppotunity . . . to extend a hearty congratulation . . . to my good friend . . . Coach York. And also especially . . . to all the Eagle fans . . . who showed such fantastic support - - -" . . . zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz . . . .
