BU 2011-2012 Season: The bar is low, boys!

Re: BU 2011-2012 Season: The bar is low, boys!

it was nice to see.

agree that BC seemed to just play out the last 10 or so

BU finished well because so many of their guys got rest in the penalty box during the early part of the game

BU was very physical, won the hit contest

win or not, anybody that argues the team is not consistently ready to play can use this as an example

BC's goalie looked like he was in the headlights, aside from one great save on trivino I didn't see him do much

several BU fans now climbing back in the window but not locking it

Re: BU 2011-2012 Season: The bar is low, boys!

Throwing this out there, with all the strange results this weekend..is the new #1...THE MACK?

Based on records, why not?

But I still don't see them finishing in the Top 10 at the end of the season.
They have the league's best goaltender - Cannata - because he is more consistent than the other "good" goalies. Other than that, they have mediocre talent that has been overachieving. They play solid team defense, work hard and have been opportunistic so far.
They certainly deserve credit for what they have done, so far.
So put them at No. 1 right now.
And if they can sustain a high level over the course of the season, more power to them.

Re: BU 2011-2012 Season: The bar is low, boys!

I think it is time that Jerry York retires. He has obviously lost the plot.
His team gets shutout at home and loses in front of a national television audience to a disinterested, mediocre opponent that has no powerplay, can't kill penalties, has inconsistent goaltending and a coach with questionable senility.

If the score had been reversed, people would be looking to string up Parker.

Maybe we can let the season play out without any knee-jerk reactions about any coaches that aren't going anywhere anytime soon.

A great win for the Terriers and an overall excellent weekend but this doesn't change anything I've posted here in how I look at the overall product these last 8-10 years. Another indication that the talent is there and can compete with anyone on any given day.

I hope this is the start of a long upward trend of consistent performances and if so I will happily cheer this team along every step of the way and eat any words of criticsm I've levied here.

Great win over an arch rival....oh and where are all those BC posters that have been hovering around here the last two weeks?

They also conspicuously disappeared from here around the second week of October 2008 through the summer of 2009. Not sure if that's a coincidence or not.

FWIW... I see the Mack in the top 10 at seasons end. They play tournament style hockey all season long... good defense that blocks a ton of shots out front, keeps those shots out on the perimeter, and most important, excellent goaltending. They'll scrap for their 2-3 goals per game and allow 1-2 goals per game. That's a winning combination.

Congrats to BU on taking the Eagles apart today. IMO, your boys played the game like Merrimack today, just as I described above. Blocked a ton of BC shots that never reached Milan and capitalized on mistakes at the other end. That's just good solid hockey.

Re: BU 2011-2012 Season: The bar is low, boys!

Hasn't been mentioned, but how piissed must York and BC be that the team stick saluted the BU crowd on their home ice while they were standing in a circle while the band played what I assume is the BC alma mater song. Never seen an opposing team stick salute. Nice gesture from our guys, but that's gotta sting the BC guys.

Calm down, Jofa.
Neither of them are going anywhere anytime soon ... unless it is their choice, bad health or there is a Penn State-type scandal meltdown.

Jerry will have to brown-bag lunch tomorrow.

Re: BU 2011-2012 Season: The bar is low, boys!

We better get 4 pts this weekend or I'm going to be more ****ed than I have been all season....

Re: BU 2011-2012 Season: The bar is low, boys!

I look forward to hearing the comments from the negative nellys who were predicting the 7-1 BC type of result.

Looks like the sandbagging by some of you worked!!!

Millan was great. Hopefully we see that version of #31 around for the rest of the season.

Great? He was solid, but really didn't have to do a whole lot. For a guy BC has gotten to in the past, they couldn't/didn't make him work for it.

For. The. Love. Of. GOD!!!! If I hear students chanting "Scoreboard" without being up by 6 goals and more than 3 minutes to go I swear I will go to my friends in high places and track all of you down and revoke your ticket privileges. What the hell is wrong with you????

Don't know if I'm the only one, but I usually cringe at most chants by both sides...

HUGE WIN, just like I predicted!!!!

Hahahahaha yayyyyy, big papa was right for once!!!

Seriously, my god Cleverly...give it a rest. People have the right to criticize Parker as he's certainly opened himself up for that criticism. With a win like that today, your team shouldn't be 4-4-1.

Jeesh, there was a Patriots game tonight, ya know. I'm here win or lose.

Congrats to you guys on reaching .500 and ending the five game losing streak to BC :p

You haven't had a whole lot to celebrate the last two years, so I don't blame you for taking advantage of the opportunity.

First of all, not to take anything away from you guys, but I think everyone would agree you caught BC on an off night.

That being said, if BU plays as thorough as that on a consistent basis, they should be tough to beat.

You look simply at shots on goal and this was hardly the typical "domination" you'd see in a 5-0 scoreline. By that I mean territorially.

But, I can't name one area where BC outplayed BU. That's where the "domination" comes in. BU looked like a desperate, focused team. We simply had no answers.

First time a team has gotten to Milner for more than three (I think). Not his best effort. We know he has some issues with rebounds, but even his side to side anticipation on the 5 on 3 goal was off. Will be interesting to see how he rebounds...

The biggest problem was no sustained offensive pressure and nothing on the PP. They could just never get into the game or even get the crowd into the game. We did not make things difficult on BUs defense. It was too easy for them all night. Only 21 shots is a problem too. In facing a goalie that you have gotten to before, put the puck on net. I'm all for the pretty play, but they were forcing things too much when passing lanes weren't there.

Very disappointing, but this is a rivalry...we aren't gonna beat them every time.

I've seen that a couple of times before...Sadly it's usually when a visiting team salutes their fans who made the trip for the HE quarterfinals at Agganis.

Re: BU 2011-2012 Season: The bar is low, boys!

This game tells me BU has the talent to compete, its more the coaching staff getting them to put in the effort. Harry's canine loyalty to Parker notwithstanding, this team should not be a .500 team. Connolly, Nieto, Gill, Milan...that ought to be worth home ice advantage and a trip to the HE tournament finals if they feel like showing up for more than a game or two in a row.

Re: BU 2011-2012 Season: The bar is low, boys!

You guys need to go over and read mookie's posts in the Score Updates thread. Great job! Not sure why he was in there posting pretty much all on his own, but it made it funnier beause of it. :)

Lets not absolve the players part in getting themselves ready either...

The performances this weekend were very positive. If the coaching staff can prepare them with the proper game plans, and the players come ready to play then there is no reason we should not be able to take 4 points this weekend.

It will be interesting for me to see the response next weekend.... do they take the positive reinforcement that comes with the performances this weekend, or does it turn into "hey we just crushed BC so Vermont should be no problem".. and then go out and play pond hockey for the first 20 minutes again.

Did Northeastern do this last year? I know when Mack won game two in 2010, they kind of pumped their fists to their crowd as they skated off the ice. I certainly cannot remember an instance of a team overly doing it to their fans at a regular season game.

Here is another one!:p:rolleyes: I dont disappear if you guys beat us, i am more likely to disappear if we won as i NEVER was one to rub it in because i am a firm believer in the"what comes around, goes around" thing...............as i said in the BC thread it was a total arse whipping :o

And the coaching staff had them ready to play this game, clearly. In fact, coming off a heartbreaker on Friday night in which they played well enough to beat what could be the #1 team in the country today, but got screwed by a horrendous call late in the game to give Mack the PP and then a flukey bounce OT goal. To have the team back up and ready to go at 110% and beat down the #2 team in their own house is a credit to the coaching staff from top to bottom, who certainly share a burden of the blame for the shortcoming so far this season.
