This is really for the alumni thread, but who goes there? Brian Strait recalled by Pittsburgh, will be in lineup tonight vs. Wild. On Versus.

Re: BU 2011-2012 Season: The bar is low, boys!

It's so quiet on here recently.

Idea: I've been thinking about the BU D-pairings for when Ruikka comes back (since it should be soon). MacGregor has been playing really well, so it could be interesting to figure out who goes where. Anyone have ideas? Here's a D-Pairing I've been thinking of:

Noonan - Privitera
Clendening - Ruikka
Escobedo - MacGregor/Nicastro

Thoughts?

<< Here's a guy having an identity crisis.

I'm not 100% sold on MacGregor yet, though his physical presence is a plus and he has improved in the offseason. That said, I'm also not sold on sitting Nicastro just yet, that could end up backfiring and be a bad message. If anyone, I'd be more inclined to sit Clendening who has far too many moments of light-headedness and lack of interest for my liking. Nonetheless, an interesting decision when Ruikka comes back, assuming he's 100% healthy.

I agree with this for the most part. Clendening has still not played up to his potential or close to it on a consistent level. I would like to see him and NiCastro take a seat sometime soon(separate games) and see if that lights a fire underneath either guy. Whatever guy responds better you play regularly. Even if that means putting in Rosen(if he is healthy) this weekend over one of them. Rosen will atleast give you 100% effort while he is out there and will play smart something both Clendening and NiCastro fail to do. Having said that, I think NiCastro has been better this year not great but improved. Clendening seems to have continued making the same poor decisions

From my limited viewing (PC game on TV), I would sit Escobedo. He's the one that I think of when I picture someone making a bone-head play.

I'd be surprised if either nicastro or clendening sits when everyone is healthy. Parker will play both IMO.

Yes, a healthy scratch for a game or two is one thing, if a regular group of 6 develops and either of them aren't on it I'd be shocked.

I feel like the D when Ruikka comes back will be a bit of a rotation for a few weeks. I can't see Parker just benching MacGregor once Ruikka comes back. He singled MacGregor out unprompted as a guy who was playing very well. I could see Escobedo getting benched for a game, Nicastro getting benched for a game . . . possibly Privitera benched for a game. The only one I can envision sitting few games in a row is MacGregor because that was his role last year, but I think he's growing out of that role now.

Re: BU 2011-2012 Season: The bar is low, boys!

Sounds like you guys have a lot of mediocre defensemen and you're trying to figure out which combination of them makes the most sense. Is that right?

I said for last season, and it continues to be true to some degree for this season, the key to BU is Fidel Nicastro. I still view his failure to develop quickly enough (fair to him or not) a reason why BU finished where they did. At this point is he a lost cause and/or can other Dmen step up and be the guy he had/has to be this season?
