Bsu @ Nmu 10/23-24

Re: Bsu @ Nmu 10/23-24

We lost to Tech! The season is over! NMU should just disband their hockey program! Don't just fire Walt, draw and quarter him! Kill every person who has ever been to a hockey game! Burn the Berry! We lost the first game, we'll never recover! A loss this weekend will bring the apocalypse! Hang up the skates now before it is too late!

/sarcasm

Come on, it is games 3 and 4 of the season. Get off it already, trolls.

Re: Bsu @ Nmu 10/23-24

Raceboarder-

Twitch pretty much just schooled you. You probably owe BWK an apology.

You pretty much just proved that YOU know nothing about hockey, but are nothing more than a common, lemming, deer in headlights fan.

What BWK said is completely accurate. If we don't sweep this series we are in big trouble for this up coming season. The lose to MTU already has set us down the wrong path.

Let's do a quick recap of our USCHO posts:

Asinine Things Said by RaceBoarder - 3
Asinine Things Said by BWK - 546

BWK can kiss my hairy yellow butt... If a monkey throws enough s* on a wall, some of it is going to stick... That's all that this is...

Re: Bsu @ Nmu 10/23-24

Billy B, I've been a very strong supporter of the Coach. I've reiterated my opinion in several threads. I've used logic, reason, personal experience in the hockey business, inside knowledge and statistics to back my arguments. Do I get the lemming title too?

PS- a split against Bemidji would hardly do our NCAA chances irrepairable harm, and though a Bemidji sweep, heaven forbid, would hardly be a plus, it would hardly be fatal with 32 of 36 regular season games remaining.

A 2-2 or 1-3 start does no more to guarantee exclusion from the tourney than a 4-0 or 3-1 start assures your team a bid.

Want proof? Look at my Gophers last year. 7-0-5 to start the season, and we missed the NCAA tourney. :(

I've read your points and I agree with them mostly. I also think you are the best play by play guy NMU has ever had. With that being said, I wouldn't call you a lemming because you essentially work for the team/school (even though you don't) and have to watch what you say to some degree. Small town/small college radio and journalists are NEVER critical of coaches or teams like they might be at bigger schools. The people that I would call lemmings are the ones that blindly believe in something or someone when it's produced no results. Who cares that we've been to "the joe" more than anyone besides Michigan. We've never won! We've never made the NCAA's since Kyle has arrived at the helm. We've never competed for a regular season Championship. We are always the bridesmaid, never the bride. No one except BWK and myself ever say anything about it because they don't care. At least that is the way I see it.

If the Wildcats miss the NCAA's again this season, which will be the 10th year in a row, I think we need a change in leadership. It doesn't matter how good of a coach you are if you can't get your team to the post season.

Re: Bsu @ Nmu 10/23-24

You want to know how getting swept by BSU would hurt our chances at getting into the tournament....? Are you serious?

It hurts our chances because its not a win. If losses helped teams get into the tournament you would see teams throwing games left and right. Anyway you look at it, a loss to a non-conference oponnent who is likely to be a team under consideration is a HUGE blow to NMU's at-large chances.

Btw, except for Duluth, all the teams you mentioned above are big name schools, don't even try and tell yourself that that doesn't play a big role in the selections.

You suck at figuring out how the Pairwise works.

Re: Bsu @ Nmu 10/23-24

BB, I truly appreciate the compliments. But please remember that this is the first year I have been a part of the program since '06, yet my stance hasnt wavered one iota. Only twice since NMUs last NCAA berth has anyone from the CCHA not in the Big 10, Notre Dame and Miami made an appearance in the tourney. Why do you think that is? Are all the coaches incompetent? Look at the WCHA and you'll only find 3 or 4 tourney trips among schools not named Minnesota, Wisconsin, N Dakota, CC and Denver. Why? Ferris and Omaha made the CCHA trips. NMUs record was the same as Omaha that year. NMU also has a far superior record to both of those schools over the past seven years.

I think the only overall change was Maltese in on Sunday instead of Spady. I do like how they changed up the D pairings to put some of the veterans with the incoming defensemen, and it seemed to help. Hopefully as the year progresses we can pair up our top two and have more of a shut-down pairing and then mix-and-match.

From only listening for names, Brown and Fox haven't been heard from much, and I think Butcher needs to take more of an offensive role. Kaunisto did score a nice goal, but I think he still takes too many penalties. Mark Olver creates some great things, but I think he still flies into the zone 1-on-3 too much.

The PP looks better so far this year, and the PK was great on Sunday. Stewart is our goalie, though I can see a split for this series since it is still early and is non-conference. I'd love to see NMU come out and create some more 2-on-1 or breakaway chances. Kaunisto's goal Sunday was a 2-on-1 and Chernobyl had a nice SH breakaway, but those are the only ones I remember.

NMU had 10 penalties Friday(MTU had 7), with 1 being coincidental.
NMU had 11 penalties Sunday(UMD had 9), with 2 being coincidental and one occuring with :03 left in the game.

Looking them over, nothing too different from one night to the next, except that the PK was perfect on Sunday. Still holding, hooking, slashing.... NMU really needs to stop taking multiple penalites in a row, as they managed to take 3 in a row twice on Sunday and once on Friday (They had a coincedental that technically makes it look like 4 in a row, but I'll let them slide on that one)

Re: Bsu @ Nmu 10/23-24

Hey, I'm not looking for any apologies and didn't take any offense to anything that Raceboarder said. He clearly didn't get my line of thinking regarding TUCs and now its been explained for the good of the whole board. A big thanks to Twitch Boy, he undoubtably understands the pairwise system a little bit better than I do.

boot_walt_kyle and Billy Blanks in the same thread! Its like Jessica Simpson-Paris Hilton celebrity Jeopardy!

Re: Bsu @ Nmu 10/23-24

What ever happened to Ben Lindemulder? Huge loss for the D corps! Since the Mining Urinal doesn't report anything, its hard to keep up with my hometown Cats living down in troll land in Farmington Hills.

PS, I'm tired of the NMU program getting shafted year after year by Anastos to cater for those other teams down here!

I think Walt is a pretty decent coach considering who would be a viable replacement. Take a look at Lake State for example. Division II schools do not have same funding as the Michigan States, Michigan of the college world. In 2002, we were fortunate to bring in Kyle. Bringing in a new coach would be a sure shot for disaster like at Lake State. Even though year after year it appears to be the same shortfall in Marquette, Walt has several 20+ win seasons. I believe that says a lot about the program and coach!! Go Cats!

I've heard he just wanted to stay closer to home.

Re: Bsu @ Nmu 10/23-24

Now that it's game-week, time to bring this back to the top.

Unfortunatly, I definatly won't be making the trip this year. I've already got November 26-27, 2010 marked on my calendar though...

Re: Bsu @ Nmu 10/23-24

Well, looks like I'll be watching the games on the b2 network, as I just hooked the TV up to my computer (thanks Millsy!). Thank god my wife's (anyone there live around Arnold or Gwinn? That's where she grew up - going to the one room elementry school at KI Sawyer) as excited about this series as I am...

Re: Bsu @ Nmu 10/23-24

Glad it worked Moose! I know what I will be doing this weekend for the games. I will just have to leave the laptop hooked up and also watch the BSU-UMD football game. Maybe, just maybe, the Beavers can pull of an upset in that one!
