BSU '10-'11: Can the Beav's Read the W and be in the Hunt?

Re: BSU '10-'11: Can the Beav's Read the W and be in the Hunt?

I don't get the trap talk either. I'm assuming they were frustrated that their team lost. From what I saw on Saturday night Bemidji just outworked UNO and for a change they finished some opportunities. As I remember BSU rarely traps, they aren't good at it....at all:) I consider that to be a good thing.

Correct, BSU hardley ever "traps." They rather pressure the puck. Add in some good team speed (more than UNO expected, I would guess), and it was likely frustrating. Also, if anyone listened to College Hockey Tonight, we talked about BSU being a hard working team, and that Dean Blais coached teams typically were very hard-working too. So, a fast hard working team beat the #4 team in the country, even though the other squad might have had more "talent." Not the first (or last) time that's going to happen...

Re: BSU '10-'11: Can the Beav's Read the W and be in the Hunt?

Couple observations . . . 1) Great to see BSU hockey play like it was Saturday night for two nights and 2) Dear Sanford Center, please oh please change up the intro music ("h*ell yeah") and same goes for the intro highlights! This is getting very stale.

Great weekend of hockey. Next up, a split in Madtown.

Be happy that you've had a chance for it to get stale - i.e., 5 home weekends out of 7 played so far. In other words, you're gonna miss it the rest of the season, since most of the home games are over... BSU is on the road for a month and a half, only plays 2 home games in the next 2 and a half months, and when you look at it, the only chance for anything Sanford Center-related to get "stale" will be two home series in three weeks at the end of the year vs. CC and Minnesota.

Re: BSU '10-'11: Can the Beav's Read the W and be in the Hunt?

Great game.... great. Nerve wracking but great. Good to see the Beavs playing up to form. Not sure who had a bad attitude at the end there for the Mavs, but definately developing the potential to be another Huntsville. Who hates Mavericks, we hate Mavericks doesn't have the same pristine ring to it.

I would venture to guess the "bad attitude" was more of a misunderstanding than anything else. I was actually watching the Mav player and Matt Read at the end of the game. They were tied up pretty good in front the high slot and when the horn went, Read turned to go celebrate with Bakala. In doing so, he pulled his tied up stick and the Mav player ended up tripping. Naturally, he took exception.

Nothing dirty on either side with it, I would just call it a misunderstanding.

The two games in January in Omaha are going to be VERY INTERESTING!!!

And I will post some of my Sanford Center thoughts later today, probably on my lunch break. Since we have had a couple of months now.....

I know, the scheduling wasn't too fan friendly this year (i.e. MN has five weekends left vs our three). However, I can tell you the video highlights, clip for clip, and am getting pretty good at naming the next song over a break (same as promos). That's the stale I'm talking about. It's not too much work/effort to add a few new clips each night for the intro and change/rotate the songs, either. Heck, even a Friday night intro/songs and Saturday night intro/songs. Is it a huge deal, no, but it's not that much effort, and it makes it that much better of an experience for season tick holders.

We are now in the WCHA and we are showcasing an incredible facility in the Sanford Center. IMHO I think it is time to pursue some options at the PA position.

I agree with the stale comment. One thing we don't have anymore is the good player introduction. For example in the Glas, we had the green lights going (fog horn, strobes, etc) when the players skated out. And kept the festivities going while the home players were introduced. You could tell this really pumped up the players and crowd.

At the Sanford Center they play music/video, but immediately turn it off for home player introductions.

Lets get the SC rockin'!

I second that motion.

Re: BSU '10-'11: Can the Beav's Read the W and be in the Hunt?

I dislike the intro music too. Too long, too boring and too Bucky. Would love to see the band playing the school song after goals too. Seems a waste to have the band there are have them continually drowned out by piped in music.

Also, someone needs to change the power play sponsorship to "The Beavers are in the Market for a power play" instead of Marketplace Power Play. ugh. too wordy and too dull.

Re: BSU '10-'11: Can the Beav's Read the W and be in the Hunt?

I dont mind the intro at the beginning, but the fact that they repeat the hell yeah song before the player intro is pretty lame. Also, i wish they would make the goal horn louder!! Nothin better than hearing a roaring horn after a goal.

Re: BSU '10-'11: Can the Beav's Read the W and be in the Hunt?

Okay, here are my midseason thoughts on the Sanford Center and the Bemidji State Hockey Experience.

1. Probably my biggest gripe, and I will have to e-mail the Event Center again, but I would like some signs placed on the railing stating that Row 8 IS NOT A WALKWAY! If they can put up signs that say not to stand at the railing during game action, they can put one up for this also. We bring our three month old son in his car seat and there are times he is sleeping in his car seat, on his ticketed seat, and people want to walk through. Last weekend we had one stumbling guy almost knock the car seat onto the gound. We can't put the car seat on the ground since the Center Staff has said that is a NO-NO. Otherwise we are holding him and giving him a bottle and that is not the easist time to stand up and let you through. I have talked with a couple of other "Row 8ers" from around the arena, and they are not having fun either. What really ****es me off is when we tell them it is not a walk way, they walk through anyway and then go down the next stairway to the concourse. Hey dumb*ss, this row is only six seats long and there was a stairway right behind you. People, use the concourse to move between sections.

2. I don't have a problem with the opening song other than it is too long to get to the starting lineups. Everyone looses the intensity waiting that long to get to the Beaver Starting Lineup.

3. I don't have a problem with the PA guy, he has definitely improved A BUNCH over the CHA days at the Glas. As far as I know, he volunteers his time.

4. The power play sponsorship. Well, that is an advertising right that was sold, so if I had bought that and my business wasn't getting mentioned, I would be upset. Just about every other school I have been to has some sort of sponsorship mentioned on their powerplay. It is a money maker for the team. If you don't like it, buy the rights and then tell them it is just a Beaver Powerplay.

5. What I would like to see is a dark "house" with spotlights/colors for the opening lineup for BSU. We could do it at the Glas, it should be doable at the Sanford Center.

6. THE SCHOOL SONG AFTER GOALS!!! We are at a college hockey game for God's sake, and the school has a fight song. Let's hear it and allow the crowd to get the BEMIDJI chant going. Minnesota plays their school song, Duluth does, Michigan does, Wisconsin does.

7. We need a LOUD and ROWDY student section. If they get going, the rest of the arena will follow, especially if the cheers are clean and original (Old Time Swinger Cheers).

I am sure there are other things I am missing, but these are the ones that come to mind right now and my thoughts on others posted here.

FWIW The current PA guy has done a respectable job through the years and should be commended for what he has contributed to BSU hockey.

Something needs to be changed or added or enhanced at the PA level. The current situation is mundane and very vanilla and in fact this topic has been discussed for years. Granted it has gotten better but better doesn't cut it anymore. I have no clue how the current PA stuff gets done. Is it entirely a one man show or a team effort? It is time to bring in some new perspective. The ticket buying public should leave the Sanford Center with the satisfaction that the events both on and off the ice were given 110% effort and attention to detail was not overlooked. If I am going to be charged big time prices then shouldn't I expect big time results? If the current PA guy does volunteer his time then maybe the addage of "you get what you pay for" has some truth to it. End of rant. :)

I watched Friday's game on TV and was surprised to not hear the school song after a goal. Especially when I saw the bad was there!

The students should go out to Ann Arbor and see the atmosphere there. It's a great place to watch a game.

Re: BSU '10-'11: Can the Beav's Read the W and be in the Hunt?

Well, I have received a reply on some of the concerns/changes that have been floated out here in cyberspace. And it all makes sense now as to why some of the things out there have not been done. It basically comes down to money. BSU Hockey is responsible for the gameday "atmosphere" and with the money that was spent on the BSU Hockey Wing at the Sanford Center, some of the "atmosphere" things had to be cut out. What we need to remember is that the Sanford Center only provided the walls for the Hockey Teams, everything else is furnished by the Hockey Program. And I am okay with that as I would rather the players have the best of the best to lure the recruits here. So what we want to see may not happen this year, but may be on the radar for the future. There are a few changes coming down the pipe and they may be ready for the SCSU series in January and it should help with some of the concerns.

So Beaver Fans, we need to just hang in there and things are in the works. But like everything else, it takes money and time. Now I just have to get Row 8 blocked off to foot traffic.......

Is the "hockey wing" the press box/sections N-Z concourse? Aren't their murals by the hockey office too, that the general public doesn't get to see (which is too bad)?
