BSU '10-'11: Can the Beav's Read the W and be in the Hunt?

Re: BSU '10-'11: Can the Beav's Read the W and be in the Hunt?

If I'm remembering correctly, BSU gets tickets...arena gets consessions.

It's a lot more complicated than that. BSU pays something like $200,000 a year in rent, but does get ticket revenue (minus Ticketmaster fees, which incude several things, like a facility fee, which goes to the city), they get some of concessions (I'm thinking like 20%), and they get some of the advertising (I believe it's termed temporary advertising - think the Marketplace Foods power play, the adds in the ice, the adds in the dasher boards, while the city gets the adds ON the scoreboard (not that there are any yet), those in the concourses and naming rights). The city gets parking revenue.

I read the lease once, almost two years ago, and it's quite detailed about who gets what, and what percentage. I'll see if it's still available online (I can't find it right now, but can ask around tomorrow).

Couldn't make the games this weekend, so it was nice to see the broadcasts on Lakeland Public TV. While Friday's game was almost unbearable to watch, Saturday's was more fun. Scotty and Monzie do an awesome job on the broadcasts and my wife even commented on how much of an upgrade it was over the TV17 local broadcasts. My only complaint would be the center ice camera not anticipating where the puck was going. There were quite a few times the puck and/or player with it were out of the picture.

The Saturday change of putting Billburg on the first line and sliding George down to the second line seemed to work. It will be interesting to see if that sticks or if it was just an experiment in non-conference play since Read, Lowe and Billburg will all graduate this season.

Bring on UNO!

I was there Friday and enjoyed watching Kyle Brodie play. Big strong guy on the blue line, it's what we need.

It's usually hit or miss. Friday night the camera person was better, but Saturday's was a little rough. But over all the production value of the games are great. I tip my hat to the Lakeland Sports crew.

The artist who has painted Matt Climie's last two masks, has posted photos of his work on his website. When you click through the pictures, look closely at the moon for a little nugget. Enjoy!

Get out the white jerseys, as Friday is set to be a whiteout vs. UNO, from what I hear.

The Bemidji City Council will vote tomorrow at 5 p.m. in an emergency meeting to formaly approve the Sanford naming rights deal for the BREC. Looks like the folks over there think that it will be approved:

FYI for Beaver fans ... I was at the Gwinnett ECHL game tonight. Matt Francis returned about a week or so ago from missing several weeks with a separated shoulder. Guess what? ... yup, I saw him skating off the ice with shoulder hanging during tonight's game. Later, after the game, I spotted him going into the locker room with his arm/shoulder in a sling. I'm guessing Franny has another shoulder separation.

Was last night the first time the men's and women's hockey teams have shut out their opponents on the same day at home? I am fairly confident it's the first time the men's and women's teams have shut out top ten teams on the same day at home...

Re: BSU '10-'11: Can the Beav's Read the W and be in the Hunt?

Congrats on a big win over a pretty **** good UNO team. Hopefully this is the weekend that spurs you guys back into the hunt for home ice.

Re: BSU '10-'11: Can the Beav's Read the W and be in the Hunt?

So, who thought last night's BSU 3-0 victory was a bore-fest? UNO fans over on mavpuck.com are complaining that the Beavers play the trap and bore the other team to death?

I don't know, but I thought BSU forechecks hard and just flat out beat the Mavericks to loose pucks. For a team that was suppose to be fast, BSU skated around them A LOT!

GO GREEN! LET'S GET THAT FIRST WCHA SWEEP!

WHAT A GREAT WEEKEND FOR BSU :D In the words of our "smart" Vice-President "THIS IS A BIG ****ING DEAL" ;) Just too bad my other team could take advantage of the situation and put a **** Show of their own on the ice..... Dang Gophers.....

Re: BSU '10-'11: Can the Beav's Read the W and be in the Hunt?

Great game.... great. Nerve wracking but great. Good to see the Beavs playing up to form. Not sure who had a bad attitude at the end there for the Mavs, but definately developing the potential to be another Huntsville. Who hates Mavericks, we hate Mavericks doesn't have the same pristine ring to it.

BSU skated around them A LOT!

That's what I saw too. George just flew past everybody. UNO may be big, but they couldn't contain the speed and were beat. A lot of odd-man rushes for BSU Friday. I didn't get to see tonight's game...

Re: BSU '10-'11: Can the Beav's Read the W and be in the Hunt?

Great atmosphere last night. Will this be the weekend folks point back to and say BSU reclaimed "home ice advantage"?

Re: BSU '10-'11: Can the Beav's Read the W and be in the Hunt?

I don't get the trap talk either. I'm assuming they were frustrated that their team lost. From what I saw on Saturday night Bemidji just outworked UNO and for a change they finished some opportunities. As I remember BSU rarely traps, they aren't good at it....at all:) I consider that to be a good thing.
