BSU '10-'11: Can the Beav's Read the W and be in the Hunt?

Re: BSU '10-'11: Can the Beav's Read the W and be in the Hunt?

I'm on my way out of town for Bemidji HS football in the state tourney, so CHT is online early - click the link in my signature for the UNO preview:

Re: BSU '10-'11: Can the Beav's Read the W and be in the Hunt?

Congrats to former Beaver Matt Pope on being signed by the Hershey Bears of the AHL.

Also, Brady Riesgraf has moved from the Fargo Force (USHL) to the Coulee Region Chill (NAHL).

Re: BSU '10-'11: Can the Beav's Read the W and be in the Hunt?

What are some good places to grab a bite to eat before the game saturday? Someone suggested a pizza joint whose name I have since forgotten. Any BSU posters going to be at the games?

Re: BSU '10-'11: Can the Beav's Read the W and be in the Hunt?

Dave's Pizza at the corner of 15th and Irvine. The doors open at 5:00 and with the game at 7:00, you will want to be there at 5:00. The place seems to fill up fast on game nights and can take an hour and a half to get your food and eat. It is worth it though.

If you are looking for burgers, there are several places that are good. Corner Bar in Nymore is only a couple of blocks from the arena. Slims out on old Highway 71 is another good place. I haven't tried this place yet, but Bar 209 in the downtown area is suppose to have some good burgers as well. And then there is the Keg 'n Cork in the downtown area that serves burgers, but is probably better known for their Kombats!

Otherwise, there are the chain eateries around. The Ground Round out by Target and Walmart has a bus (the Round Tripper) that will take you too and from the game. Applebees is out in that area as well. The Green Mill is in the Hampton Inn, which is a possible walk to the Events Center.

There are also a couple of local Mexican joints in town, Mi Rancho (out by the hospital) and Mi Marachi (south side of town). Pretty good food, service is awesome (at least it was when we were there last weekend) and prices are nice.

There are also busses that run from the downtown bars to the games as well.

Me and the family will have our four seats occupied on Saturday night. We won't be there Sunday night as it would be pushing midnight after the game getting home. With a three year old and a one year old, I don't want them to sleep for 2.5 hours on the way home and then be up all night with work bearing down Monday morning. I am sure Lakeland Public Television will have me covered though for Sunday!

I don't think we are going to make it for Sunday either... Sat. will be fun though as I have tickets on the glass Sioux attacking end. Beats the he77 out of row 8 where we were for last years Sat. night matchup. I swear I almost punched 20 people that night for walking in front of me during play...

I hear you on row 8. Our season tickets were in row 8 last year. When we purchased them, we were told that it was not a walkway, that people were to use the concourse to go between sectioins. With two little kids, we thought this would be great as our daughter would be able to see pretty easily and we would eliminate some stairs. Well, we got to the point where we flat out told people it was not a walkway and just about got into a few arguements over it. But when our son is in a car carrier on the seat (since we couldn't place it on the floor) and it just about gets knocked to the floor a few times by kids trying to get through and drunks not wanting to spill their beer, we had enough.

This year we moved to Row 11 right next to one of the entrances. Nobody in front of us, so our kids can still see the game nicely.

Re: BSU '10-'11: Can the Beav's Read the W and be in the Hunt?

According to the KRACH rankings, Bemidji has played the third toughest schedule to date, behind Vermont and Minnesota-Duluth.

Re: BSU '10-'11: Can the Beav's Read the W and be in the Hunt?

Former Beaver Goaltender Matt Climie has been called up by Vancouver to back up Cory Schneider as Roberto Luango nurses an "upper body" injury.

Hopefully Matt gets a chance!

Re: BSU '10-'11: Can the Beav's Read the W and be in the Hunt?

Are Beaver fans as excited about this win as upset as the Sioux are about the loss being it's the first one in 40 years apparently. I don't quite understand the reaction from Sioux fans on this one so what's your take? Or is this just further evidence of a Sioux meltdown? BSU has taken down some tough teams before so not sure why this one game has sent them into such a tailspin.

Grats to the Beavers on the win last night, way to keep Sue in the basement where she belongs.

this Sioux team is not very good right now but they did do something that the goofs couldn't do this weekend... win a game on the road. congrats to BSU on getting the UND monkey off their backs, the Sioux did not show up last night and you guys deserved the win. BTW, nice fans, always have a good time up at the Bemidji games.

Re: BSU '10-'11: Can the Beav's Read the W and be in the Hunt?

I wasn't at the games this weekend (stomach bug), but did catch them on TV. BSU did not look very good Saturday night as they seemed to have very little jump and did not make themselves "hard to play against". That said, BSU was tied at 2 with the Sioux with 5 minutes left in the game.

Sunday night, BSU looked completely different. They had jump and made the plays, they were "hard to play against" and battled all over the ice.

It is a big win for Bemidji, to FINALLY beat the Sioux after 20 or 21 meetings. So yes, we are excited and hopefully can build on this with the off week leading into the SCSU series the first weekend of December. Even though the Sioux are down/banged up this year as compared to years past, they still have 15 or 16 NHL draft picks to BSU's 1 (who didn't even play this weekend due to injury). They do have a deeper talent pool than BSU has right now, but BSU had the heart last night. Hard work will usually beat talent that doesn't work hard, and that was the case last night.

I must say, the game pulled in off the HD Rabbit Ears (Saturday) was a lot more pleasing to the eyes than watching the game on my in-laws standard DirecTV feed (Sunday). My wife even commented and has now given me the task of looking at dropping our cable provider and looking at HD for DirecTV or DishNetwork. I am happy!

Re: BSU '10-'11: Can the Beav's Read the W and be in the Hunt?

Great win vs. UND for the BSU hockey program. PLEASE no more Sunday games. Quite a few empty seats and not much energy in the building, for what should have been an exciting night.

Re: BSU '10-'11: Can the Beav's Read the W and be in the Hunt?

A very good weekend of hockey by the Green. About 5 bad minutes of bad hockey on Friday cost them the sweep. I was really starting to get worried on all the missed breakaways on Saturday, burying one or two of those would have put the game away.

Walsh looked older than a freshman on Saturday. Looks like a nice alternative for when Bakala needs a break!

Huntsville week. Let's Go Green!
