BSU '10-'11: Can the Beav's Read the W and be in the Hunt?

Re: BSU '10-'11: Can the Beav's Read the W and be in the Hunt?

CHT is online early today (I've got a bus trip to Duluth this afternoon), so clicky clicky on the link in my signature to listen and enjoy!

Re: BSU '10-'11: Can the Beav's Read the W and be in the Hunt?

Nice 3 points by the Beavs, they showed me they can. Whats the word on Rendell's injury?.

Re: BSU '10-'11: Can the Beav's Read the W and be in the Hunt?

I have not posted on here in awhile but someone needs to say that the music needs to be turned way up in the rink during the games, my god you can barely hear anything, it's got to get the crowd involved in the game! Especially the video before they take the ice, thats when your supposed to get the crowd involved and its like the video is whispering at you!

Huh? The music seems okay in our seats. My only comment on this last weekend would be the lack of fire coming from the student section. Friday night it seemed like a morgue and Saturday it looked like it was only half filled. I hope BSU hockey is not becoming one of those places where students go to be seen rather than making some noise.

Re: BSU '10-'11: Can the Beav's Read the W and be in the Hunt?

yah, the student section has been a disappointment this year for sure. i think the music level has been fine besides the more the frequent announcer error, which opens a whole nother set of questions.(time for a change)

Agree on the announcer change...Plenty of radio and TV people available up there. I know people are driving up from the Twin Cities to do video work, if they do an open audition for announcer, they'll find someone much better and someone who knows what they're doing.

To me, the announcer does not make or break the game. He is trying to bring some energy into the game, which has been lacking from the crowd this year. Does it rub some people the wrong way? yes. Could a few things be changed up? Yes. But, as discussed earlier this season, I believe he volunteers his time, meaning he is not paid. What are the chances of finding someone that would do that?

Like what was discussed earlier in this thread, the Hockey Program, not the Sanford Center, is responsible for the game day music, lights, videos, etc. (I will call it atmosphere). That all costs $$$. So, if you want something changed, more than likely $$$ are going to have to come in also.

FWIW, I think a lot of our concerns were dealt with nicely since Christmas Break. They have changed up the videos, the music, used more of the spotlights for introductions, and have gotten microphones for the pep band.

Re: BSU '10-'11: Can the Beav's Read the W and be in the Hunt?

Former Beaver Matt Dalton has been sent back to Reading (ECHL) from Providence (AHL).

For the most part, I think things have improved since Xmas. I do think the intro could be better and they need to keep better tabs on the mixer/volume. It's been a morgue in their a lot of the time. Who does the "blame" fall on though? Fans? Students? Or not much to cheer for at times? Building sucking up the energy/noise? Or all of the above?

I think the student section has been a little of a disappointment this year. However, the way their section is designed, it makes it tough for them being pretty widened out. I've "heard" their was an architectural error in the design in their end - the end wall was supposed to go further back and allow for more seating.

It's UNO in the first round. I hope Read is ready to go...GO BEAVERS

Re: BSU '10-'11: Can the Beav's Read the W and be in the Hunt?

Looks like BSU has landed two new recruits

Phil Brewer, F, Burlington Cougers of the OJHL. Phil is 6'1", 195 pounds, from Cambridge, ONT. His regular season stats were 48 GP, 39G-70A-109 Pts., and 42 PIM. In the playoffs, he has 5GP, 5G-6A-11 Pts., and 2 PIM.

Corey Petrash, F, Winnipeg Thrashers Midgets. He is 5'8" and 165 pounds, but don't look for him in a BSU uni until 2013 or 2014 as he is 15. In 35 GP, he has 30G-25A-55 Pts., 16 PIM. In the playoffs, 4 GP, 3G-4A-7 Pts., 0 PIM.

Re: BSU '10-'11: Can the Beav's Read the W and be in the Hunt?

According to WCHA Hockey Blog:

http://wchahockeyblog.blogspot.com/2011/03/tentative-2011-12-scsu-schedule.html

St. Cloud and Bemidji will play just once next year, in St. Cloud, December 2 and 3. That takes BSU and UNO out of the UND/SCSU band, so we will also only play UND for one series. UND/SCSU will be paired with Minnesota and Wisconsin, so BSU will only play those two teams twice (Minnesota on the road, Wisconsin at home). In theory, if we go to SCSU, does that mean UND will come to Bemdiji, or will the Beavers play both SCSU and UND on the road?

The pairings again in the WCHA:

BSU/UNO (four games against next year)
UND/SCSU (two games each next year)
Minnesota/Wisconsin (two games each next year)
CC/Denver
Minnesota State/Anchorage
UMD/Michigan Tech

I would make the assumption that home and aways would be flipped from this year. The thing that makes me a little cautious on that is the fact that we are not with SCSU/UND as our "pod" mates. So next year we will have, based on my assumptions:

UNO 2 at home, 2 on the road
UND 2 at home
SCSU 2 on the road
Minnesota 2 on the road
Wisconsin 2 at home
Mankato 2 at home
Anchorage 2 on the road
UMD 2 on the road
Michigan Tech 2 at home
Denver 2 at home
CC 2 on the road.

That just leave the four other games against our "pod" mates, which based on logic from the SCSU schedule would be one of the following pair:

UMD/MTU
CC/Denver
Mankato/Anchorage

Also, since we go to Anchorage, we get two more non-conference games next year for 36 total games. UAH in Bemidji will be two of those games. I am not sure where we stand with Northern Michigan on whether we owe games to them. The Mariucci Classic was our other games this year and I would assume that was a one and done deal. Do we owe anyone any games from years past?
