We shoulda had them the other day. Padstack needs to become a member of Whoopie Pie nation. He really looks malnourished, don't ya think. :p

Re: Brown - Oops! They did it again.

For the record: I care about Brown's hockey program because I know some kids who play there and they deserve better than the dialog on this board.

More importantly, I care about women's hockey, and I think this thread and the related threads only do damage to the sport and to the growth of women's hockey.

I don't know Coach Murphy, and haven't defended or attacked her. My position is that this board is NOT the venue for anyone to call for coaching changes while representing themselves to be Brown insiders, much less, Brown hockey parents.

Have a nice night.

1. Yeah most of us know kids there. And if they're part of the team and some parent asks them about Digit, then they say, yeah I like her (it's common decency). Even if you're talking to a player who is actually aware of all the b.s. involved with the program, they won't go and publicly open the lid to the can of worms being hid (even if someone asks about it).

2. Digit Murphy is the one and only reason preventing growth with women's hockey at Brown.

3. I'm a fan of Brown so that doesn't apply to me.

So, what's your connection?

You a Brown student? Brown hockey player? Former player? Alum? Parent?

Re: Brown - Oops! They did it again.

No, I'm not blaming the players. I'm blaming the delusional parents who 1) are hypocrites chanting the mantra that it is all about the education, but really chose Brown for their daughter so they could say they have a kid playing D1 2) then ***** because the program doesn't win, thus it must be the coach etc. etc. etc.

Neither of these are right, so you can't just throw this statement out there.

Brown is a shadow of its former self because:

1) The number of D1 programs offering scholarships has gone through the roof in the last decade.
2) The majority of blue chip talent opted to go to scholarship schools

Uh do I have to really point out that there are barely any scholarship schools in the ECAC, so how do these points explain why Brown only had one league win?

Brown actually had more wins against scholarships schools than non-scholarship schools.

Sure I can. It very much applies to how this thread was started.

Re: Brown - Oops! They did it again.

3) Brown opted not to put much money into the programs, resulting in low coaching salaries and thus high turnover.

Yeah if only I had a nickel for every time I heard a player say they quit because Digit wasn't getting paid enough I'd have... uh like zero nickels.

Hux was refering to the turnover in the assistant coaches, which I'm pretty sure you (or at least your friends on here) were trying to blame Digit for in the not too distant past.

Look ya dope, the scholarship players went to the Hockey East schools, most of whom didn't offer scholarships when Digit was winning season after season after season!

Re: Brown - Oops! They did it again.

4) Success breeds success, struggles beget struggles. You can't compete at the D1 level with six or seven D1 players and the rest of your roster as DIII players. Or with D1 kids who think its DIII and lack commitment.
5) Digit is Digit. She knows the game as well as anyone, probably better than most. In the new Kumbaya world of athletics, tearing a strip off someone doesn't get the result it once did. However, if she had the horses and were winning, we wouldn't be hearing about how her "methods" don't work anymore.

4) Digit should of figured that out then sometime during her 20 years here, don't you think? Why does she keep recruiting d-3 players to play d-1... it's an odd stradegy.
5) Nope, she could have won a national title and a lot of people would still be questioning her so called "methods".

4) There is a limit of quality Ivy Eligible players with the committment to play at the D1 level and don't need a scholarship. Kind of tough to get a kid to choose Brown over Harvard, Yale, Dartmouth, or the rest.
5) Because some of you just hate Digit and can't get over it.

Re: Brown - Oops! They did it again.

1) are hypocrites chanting the mantra that it is all about the education, but really chose Brown for their daughter so they could say they have a kid playing D1.

Coach Murphy isn't using them for their AI, she is using them to fill out a roster. She doesn't have any other choice. It is also no secret that a number of players have used hockey as a way into Brown, and then leave the program, but stay at school.

So if someone chooses to go to Brown to play d-1 hockey, they're wrong.

And if someone chooses to go to Brown because it is an Ivy League school, they're wrong.

I'd hate to be a player and have you here to critique my decision.
