Brown - Oops! They did it again.

Re: Brown - Oops! They did it again.

You should really change your name to dontsaydad and do exactly that. Just don’t say anything unless you actually are part of Brown, know about Brown (that doesn’t mean hearing rumors), or actually care about Brown. Or Just don't say anything unless it actually has some sort of substance.

I hope you at least personally know Digit and have a reason for defending her because if not it’s really just pathetic what you are doing here. You’re not trying to argue the thoughts of some whiny parent made, you’re trying to argue the thoughts of probably 90% of the people actually involved with Brown hockey (and that’s being generous on Digit’s behalf).

Thank you for the suggestion. I will consider your thoughts.

For the record: I care about Brown's hockey program because I know some kids who play there and they deserve better than the dialog on this board.

More importantly, I care about women's hockey, and I think this thread and the related threads only do damage to the sport and to the growth of women's hockey.

I don't know Coach Murphy, and haven't defended or attacked her. My position is that this board is NOT the venue for anyone to call for coaching changes while representing themselves to be Brown insiders, much less, Brown hockey parents.

Have a nice night.

So, what you're saying is that if I'm not a Brown insider I should keep my mouth shut?

And by extension, you, therefore are a Brown insider?

What's your connection?

Re: Brown - Oops! They did it again.

Not to pick a fight, or a nit, or anything, really ... but ...

That's 34,602 views when I checked it. What's 34,602 views divided by the, what, 12 people who actually read this thread?

Actually, my f5 (refresh) key got stuck while on this thread once for about 2 minutes. I'm sure that made the view count go up a couple thousand...

Re: Brown - Oops! They did it again.

You're not good for anything. Sorry, you left yourself wide open :D

Nobody is going to confuse you for Don Rickles. Your online insults are weak and unoriginal and your neg reps are amateurish.

I guess you are entertaining yourself and feel good about your mission of thread domination Dr. Evil. Ooops, I forgot cookie is Dr. Evil. You are mini-me in this thread.

Re: Brown - Oops! They did it again.

Yeah that must be what you and your little gang believe. Seeing you can't just let what's said be said here and feel the need to kill the thread.

I'm not sure I understand your point.

Are you suggesting that I'm mis-interpreting the 34,602 number and what it means?

Or are you possibly suggesting that something relevant to this thread (whatever that means) hasn't yet been said ...??

I absolutely stand corrected.

Something good can, and did, come of this thread.

I learned about f5.

How about that?

Thanks, notfromaroundhere!

(who was that masked man?)

(Answer: Not Digit)

Re: Brown - Oops! They did it again.

Hux, you continually blame the players even though you acknowledge the coaching situationn is effed up. How good is the scouting if all these kids that left the team are D-III caliber? Then what you're indicating is that Digit told these kids and their parents that they were D-1 material when, in fact, they were needed for simply for their IAs. Sounds like an unfair and deceptive practice to me.

HCKY85, if you're a Brown student, your IA must be around 240 because your posts are quality posts. Half these people don't even understand what you're talking about but the ones who matter, do!

No, I'm not blaming the players. I'm blaming the delusional parents who 1) are hypocrites chanting the mantra that it is all about the education, but really chose Brown for their daughter so they could say they have a kid playing D1 2) then ***** because the program doesn't win, thus it must be the coach etc. etc. etc.

Brown is a shadow of its former self because:

1) The number of D1 programs offering scholarships has gone through the roof in the last decade.
2) The majority of blue chip talent opted to go to scholarship schools
3) Brown opted not to put much money into the programs, resulting in low coaching salaries and thus high turnover.
4) Success breeds success, struggles beget struggles. You can't compete at the D1 level with six or seven D1 players and the rest of your roster as DIII players. Or with D1 kids who think its DIII and lack commitment.
5) Digit is Digit. She knows the game as well as anyone, probably better than most. In the new Kumbaya world of athletics, tearing a strip off someone doesn't get the result it once did. However, if she had the horses and were winning, we wouldn't be hearing about how her "methods" don't work anymore.

Help me out, here. How is IA calculated?

What's the number range?

Hey guys really... stop using D3 as an example if your going to continue to treat it like a door mat. It paints you all as elitist's. I don't believe that's the message you are trying to get out here.

She had the horses Hux, she got rid of them. Now if we can just get rid of the donkey.

Re: Brown - Oops! They did it again.

True, hockey is sexist - but these girls dreams are to play college hockey, whether D-1, D-2 or D-3, but Digit's using them for their IAs and then telling them to take a walk. How would you like it if it were your daughter?

The process has been discussed before, I'll recap it here. Schools recruit the highest ranked player's they can. Take any of the top blue chip talent out there, and you can be sure that every program takes a stab at getting that blue chipper's attention.

Naturally, the top programs are likely to be first, second and third choices. If a school/program isn't on that players short list, the coach moves on to the next highest ranked player on their list, and so on.

In the case of Brown they are no longer on the short list of many players. The result is the recruit that does go to Brown is often far down on the coaching staff's "grade" list. Again, they have recruited and landed legit talent, but over the past half decade it hasn't been enough.

Coach Murphy isn't using them for their AI, she is using them to fill out a roster. She doesn't have any other choice. It is also no secret that a number of players have used hockey as a way into Brown, and then leave the program, but stay at school.

She had the horses Hux, she got rid of them.

She got rid of the ones buckin' and bitin'

Help me out, here. How is IA calculated?

What's the number range?

Step 1 - Take the average score from your three SAT scores, and divide by 10. so, say you got 500,600,700...... average is 600, so for part 1 you got 60.

Step 2 - They have a sliding scale that they use to provide a score equal to your class rank....

Step 3 - I honestly forget.....anyone? anyone? Bueller? Bueller? Bueller? SAT-2 score maybe?

Add the three results, and the minimum score must be 170. However...... the average for either the team or the incoming class, again i forget.... must typically exceed a number like 190 or 200 or 210, depending on the school. Diifferent Ivies set different goals.

So, a kid who'll never skate but manages an AI of 240 helps make room for a marginally qualified student at 170.

Nope that is not what I said. You should keep re-reading my post, it's not that hard to comprehend so I'm sure you can figure it out with me further explaining it.
