Brown - Oops! They did it again.

Re: Brown - Oops! They did it again.

From the sounds of the game - there is no way Brown had 47 shots. Some iffy scoring there if you ask me.

I'm not going to get into a debate about who is trying and who is not. If Brown can't beat Union, there are serious problems. That's not a comment on entitlement or the state of hockey or anything, just that it's not good to be the team that ends a 119 game winless streak and gives up 3 points to a Union team that historically has not been good.

The 3rd period against RPI was listless... and I was there for that. I just don't know where the fire for this team is.

Finally, this game is about wins and losses, not "well, at least they tried." Coaches at the D-1 level are judged on their programs' successes in terms of academics, wins, no issues off the ice, wins, ability to recruit and maintain rosters or qualified, competent athletes, and wins. Looking good while trying will only take teams expecting to compete at the D-1 and national level so far.

And I'm sorry if this seems harsh. I'm sure the women on the team are wonderful kids who are working hard, but this loss HAS to raise a lot of eyebrows. It's a little different than losing to a top-10 team when in rebuilding mode. This would indicate that Brown could very well be going in the wrong direction... and that may have nothing to do with the kids on the roster. Again, I'm an outsider.

I thought we had moved past this... ...It's a young team and as result will have its ups and downs. I've seen them play a couple times this season. I'm quite confident that with the players they have and a couple of the right recruits, you'll see a number of their ties/one goal losses turn into W's.

Re: Brown - Oops! They did it again.

They outshot Union 47 - 22. Looks to me like they were trying. The person that gave you the info from the rink wasn`t Cookie by any chance was it...

Awww 5 4 Fighting, you missed me! Try to throw me under the Zamboni, will ya? I don't have a clue who Bruno is but he/she is right on the money. Everyone knows it; no one will do anything about it until finally there is no Brown Women's Hockey. If my sources are correct, Brown lost another player this weekend. How many more talented players will run - not walk - away? Bruno, you are absolutely right about Brown's performance this weekend. It's hard to concentrate on hockey, though, when everyone's got one skate out the door. Ten games left in the season......we'll see!

Re: Brown - Oops! They did it again.

So........ do any other states besides Massachusetts have Democrats whose seat is in danger when the mid-term elections come around?

Welcome back Cookie79. NOT!. Just like I do on the Ontario Forum, I'll call out anyone spewing false info or dirt on players or coaches.

You say "If my sources are correct, Brown lost another player this weekend"
Response..You fail to mention the reason is an injury.

You Say "I don't have a clue who Bruno is "
Response..."Bruno" is the nickname used for any Brown Varsity team.

You say " It's hard to concentrate on hockey, though, when everyone's got one skate out the door"
Response...Why don't you walk out that door. It cannot open from the outside.

Seriously...My two D's have played with several of those players already on that team, and they also played with two of the recruits coming in. These kids deserve support and team work from the whole team and their families.

One of my own D's who plays college hockey had a rough weekend with her team last weekend, resulting in two embarrassing losses. Some parents in the stands were questioning the coach while the second game was underway. My own Daughter was not happy with her performance on the Saturday game , was a bench warmer for a while and came to me for help after that game. She was pretty much PO'd and then some. So what did I do....

Certainly did NOT go on the forum and complain and chastise...NO....I told my own daughter that if I was a coach, I would have benched her as well. Gave her some examples of the mistakes she had made, and she came to understand she had an off game. Told her that if she was unhappy about it, it was up to HER to talk to the coach. Encouraged her to forget about what happened, come back the next day and focus on working hard to win the next game. While the team did lose the next day, she played a much better game and saw more ice time, including in the OT. The assistant coach commended her on a good game, and I echoed those sentiments. This is what you call a combination of supporting both the team and your daughter.

When some of the parents who were complaining asked me what I would do, gave them my views and told them to support the team and their daughters. Last thing the team needed was parents adding to the problems, or having a bunch of arm chair quarterbacks in the stands.

You see cookie, as a former coach and national caliber athlete myself, have a good understanding that it takes time, patience, team work and hard work towards a common goal to be successful. Brown does not have the most talented team, everyone here knows that. At this point their goals might very well be to win the next game, or the next period or whatever. It takes a lot of hard work, and a lot of ups and downs to build a team.

Brown will get better down the road, I have no doubt about that. They have been recruiting hard this year (I've seen them at various tournaments this year), and at least two of their recruits are prime time national caliber players (Not all of them have been announced yet). So better days are ahead.

In the mean time help the team succeed while the season is in progress, support your daughter with whatever she needs, and keep your negative thoughts to yourself.

Re: Brown - Oops! They did it again.

ONMAA, yours is an excellent and heartfelt post. I am sad however that you felt compelled to answer this ingorant, pot stirring freak with candor.

I won't repeat all my reasons why I support the coaching staff and the decisions they've made. I've made my case for them several times over.

I too know a recruit for next year who is a wonderful student-athlete in the truest sense of that compound word. She will be the kind of hard working player who will respect this coaching staff and I have no doubt she will ultimately be equally respected in return.

The wins and losses are irrelevant. She'll work hard, have fun, and get a great education. The same is true for any of those who buy into the theory that hard work pays dividends even without a string of "W"s.

****, I got sucked in too. Go Brown! Don't change! Cut Cookie's daughter and let's get back to the business of developing student-athletes into mature young adults. Love ya Digit, love ya Sean, love ya Jill! Go Bears Go!

By far, this is the post of the year. Wish I could rep you, but I need to share some more wealth.

If this doesn't make entirely clear what it means to be a good hockey parent to cookie, I don't know what will.

Thank you for your words of wisdom!

The post of the year? It's January 20th, for God's sake! Listen, just because I don't jump on the pro-coach bus with you obvious bum kissers, doesn't make me a bad hockey parent. I am very supportive of these young ladies (my own D included) and I am certain that once there is a better coaching staff, their hockey experiences at Brown will be spectacular and unforgettable.

What a bunch of whine bags you people are. The moment someone disagrees, all the verbal weaponry comes out. That really inspires me here because I can see that some of you "doth protest too much". It tells me I'm doing something right.

1) your right...I should have hit spell chick

2) the only thing your driving is your daughter out of the game

3) It was a ploy. That's the way we round up vermin around these parts and once flushed out, the outcome was the most defining post by far on this subject to date. The sentiments by OnMAA are a pretty fair assessment methinks, of what the masses are trying to accomplish.

No need to respond...

Whine bags??? Uh, who started the whining about the coaches here?

Doing something right??? The month you spent not posting on this thread was about the closest thing to that.

And I'm sure that you know exactly who better coaches are from your extensive experience as an athletic director.

As to the post of the year comment, I'll stand behind it. OnMAA succinctly explained the perfect role for a college hockey parent. I give him extra credit for being an experienced coach who knows to let the team's coach do the coaching - especially difficult for someone with his background. He may or may not think Digit is a great coach (I don't remember him specifically defending her work in this thread - but I'm sure you'll find something to paint him with a brown nose), but doesn't let that affect his helping his daughter to be the best player she can be.

I guess you know everything about being a great hockey parent and are here to teach the rest of us...

Oh, G. You just didn't. You know she won't let THIS go....no matter how right you and others are!. I may have to put aside my popcorn! (and my cheese)
