Brown - Oops! They did it again.

Re: Brown - Oops! They did it again.

It isn't extremely well known but "The Road Warrior", the without any doubt unquestioned best film of the career of the often insipid Australian Mel Gibson is a sequel.

The first film in the series is "Mad Max". "The Road Warrior" is often referred to as "Mad Max 2". "The Road Warrior" as a film is, IMO, quite a bit superior to "Mad Max".

Godfather II is a great example. Both I and II won Oscars for Best Picture. Godfather II is a VERY good film.

One of the "weaknesses" of Mad Max was the dubbing of Gibson's voice because his Aussie accent was apparently too heavy. Pretty funny considering there is only three years between films, and he grew up in New York. How bad could his accent have been?

Re: Brown - Oops! They did it again.

Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome was also solid. I know Ebert thought it was the best of the three and gave it four stars, though that is not the consensus opinion.

Re: Brown - Oops! They did it again.

On a seasonal note:

National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation :D

I like the remake of Miracle on 34th street from a seasonal perspective.

Nothing beats originals...Back to the Future, Rocky I and Home Alone three of my favorites.

Re: Brown - Oops! They did it again.

Would Dark Knight qualify as a sequel, if so it is the best of the Batman series.

Re: Brown - Oops! They did it again.

How about classics like Die Hard or Indiana Jones movies? The Bourne movies were great! More current and I may have missed it listed but Transformers is a favorite with a couple of my family members, too. :)

Re: Brown - Oops! They did it again.

But getting back on subject, I think we can all agree -- "Oops! I did it again" was definitely not a worthy sequel to "Baby One More Time."

Re: Brown - Oops! They did it again.

I'm finding it difficult to believe no one has mentioned "Bride of Chucky" as one terrifically stupendous sequel...yet. :( ;)

Nice one! And, actually, this one would belong in a different category: A franchise that failed terribly with the sequel ("European Vacation", unwatchable IMHO), then tried again and hit a home run with the 3rd installment ("Christmas Vacation").

Unfortunately, as with most Hollywood studios with no imagination, they elected to go for it one more time too many and blessed us with "Vegas Vacation". Oh well, I guess that means the next one should be a good one!

Re: Brown - Oops! They did it again.

Angels and Demons ..sequel to DaVinci's COde ..only improvement was Tom Hanks haircut and even that wasn't very good... watched The Green Mile last nite ---kinda different.

Well, being an east-coaster, you know how bad NY accents can be. Combined with an Aussie accent? Could have been pretty bad! :)

Re: Brown - Oops! They did it again.

and who could forget "Misconducts Icings Linesmen Forechecks & Slapshots." II thru XIV were also excellent. XV and XVI were a bit of a let down and I thought they'd finally been over played but then they came back with XVII thru XXII which were all excellent. :D

Seriously? I though Angels and Demons was such an improvement of DaVinci's code (maybe cause I was able to stay awake ;) )

Road Warrior is on AMC tomorrow if you so desire a trip down memory lane 11PM ET or 10PM Central Time

Wow, look at Brown today! Maybe the second half of the season is going to look up. 3-1 BU and brown scores 4. 5-5 final!

Don't forget that they also beat Vermont last week. While it is no reason to cork the champagne, it sure looks like a step in the right direction for "Bruno" to start the new year.

Looking at all the scores interesting weekend. Cornell lost twice, Dartmouth lost twice, Quinnipiac with two big wins. Could be an interesting stretch run in the ECAC.

False. This weekend was, in a word, awful. The Bears played a great 30 minutes against RPI and then fell apart in one minute, which cost them the game. What is more troubling is that with th eseason on the line (this was a must-win), the Bears got a powerplay and generated nothing. They then came up with a punchless 3rd period that looked more like a team wanting to just get out of their own rink with fewer mistakes.

Then comes the Union debacle. I didn't go, but to see a 3-0 result against a team that was winless for the past 119 league games is pathetic. What's more - a description from someone there (I was at the RPI game but decided against going to the Union contest) made it seem as though the Bears had about 1000 other places they would rather be than skating against the Dutch.

To think - this team started the weekend with a legitimate shot at making a run at the playoffs. Now, 120 minutes of hapless hockey later, and they are going to be able to make early plans for a March vacation. Sad, really. Many of us long for the glory days of the 1995-2006 run (3 ECAC tournament titles, a bunch of finals appearances, a couple national berths, the 2002 Frozen Four), and this is not to say that the young women in the locker room aren't capable. But a loss to Union (no disrespect to them) is just plain sad.

(And I am completely neutral on this. I have no children on the team, am not a former hockey player, am not a hockey parent, and am merely a fan of Brown hockey and longtime poster to the men's board. All I want to see is this team turn it around - and my guess is some significant changes have to happen, be it with the roster, the coach, the university support, whatever).

They outshot Union 47 - 22. Looks to me like they were trying. The person that gave you the info from the rink wasn`t Cookie by any chance was it...

From the sounds of the game - there is no way Brown had 47 shots. Some iffy scoring there if you ask me.

I'm not going to get into a debate about who is trying and who is not. If Brown can't beat Union, there are serious problems. That's not a comment on entitlement or the state of hockey or anything, just that it's not good to be the team that ends a 119 game winless streak and gives up 3 points to a Union team that historically has not been good.

The 3rd period against RPI was listless... and I was there for that. I just don't know where the fire for this team is.

Finally, this game is about wins and losses, not "well, at least they tried." Coaches at the D-1 level are judged on their programs' successes in terms of academics, wins, no issues off the ice, wins, ability to recruit and maintain rosters or qualified, competent athletes, and wins. Looking good while trying will only take teams expecting to compete at the D-1 and national level so far.

And I'm sorry if this seems harsh. I'm sure the women on the team are wonderful kids who are working hard, but this loss HAS to raise a lot of eyebrows. It's a little different than losing to a top-10 team when in rebuilding mode. This would indicate that Brown could very well be going in the wrong direction... and that may have nothing to do with the kids on the roster. Again, I'm an outsider.
