What happened to Maclellan during the game? I heard he was hurt pretty badly?
He was. After a marginal 5-minute call on Hourihan, ejecting him for what appeared to be a shoulder-to-shouder hit, Maclellan was on the penalty kill. He took the puck at his own blue line, was held by one of the Dartmouth players, and skated through the neutral zone. He dished the puck, and in trying to get it back, did a toe drag across the Dartmouth blue line. He was blindsided by Connor Goggin, who finished high. Jack lay on the ice for a few moments, but did make motion and was on the ice in his suit for the post-game senior presentation.
That said, he is out. It looked like an obvious head/concussion/upper body injury.
There is a thread somewhere else on here that says another player should be out as long as the injured player can't play. I'm not sure of Goggin's intent, but it was a nasty play - exactly the type of hit they are trying to get rid of in hockey.
As for 1 point in 16, that is absolutely the case. But looking back at it, there are a handful you'd want back: Clarkson-SLU at home, Princeton at home, certainly Dartmouth, Harvard on the road. All of those were games where the Bears had an opportunity to win, but didn't. But I have a hard time questioning heart. Just seems that this team could not really get over the hump in the last month or so.
Last year, the wheels fell of the wagon when Maclellan got hurt against Princeton. He was out for the playoff series, and the Bears were terrible against Quinnipiac - and that was with Harry Z carrying the torch into the playoffs. I don't really know who can/will pick it up if Maclellan is out for, dare we say, a long time. And that's with the Bears already missing Wahl, their best d-man this season, and Zaires.
In other news - back to Garbutt. That gives that season of Bears 3 NHLers (plus Maclellan, who could very well be playing at the next level). Vokes was also on that team, and he was certainly no slouch and at least as talented as Maclellan. So... 3 NHLers, Maclellan and Vokes. And three wins. Yep, that makes perfect sense.
