Re: Happy New Year to All

Hcky85, the voice of reason. Thank you for posting what the rest of us have been feeling. Newbiebear sounds like Brown Nose bear or a cross between Alice in Wonderland and ... well....Digit. It's a pretty sad commentary when even the anti-coaches have nothing to say. Some concessions are in order here. The coaches have squandered the team's potential by excising valuable players and setting up one-stop shopping in Canada - figuratively, not literally - for those whose claws are already extended. Since Digit's meltdown 2 years ago, the team can hardly buy a win. Brown's athletic department must bear some responsibility here because it has either turned a blind eye to Digit's shenanigans or it just doesn't care about Women's Hockey. Shameful, in either case. Hcky85 has stayed true to the team and deserves applause for consistently stating the obvious. It's too bad that hardly anyone is listening or watching. Can anyone answer this - affirmatively I hope? Is it true that Digit and Coady only received 1-year contracts. If so, I'll be calling the team the Good News Bears! At least it would show that the Athletic Department is seeking redemption.

Not sure about your collective motivation of jumping on Newbie Bear. He/She is just trying.

Can you explain or expand your on your comment about Canada. Don't think I'm catching what your pitching.

First Digit makes people not want to watch games. Now newbiebear is making people not interested in reading about Brown hockey at all.

No. And, no.

If I were a parent of a freshman, I’d want a change in the program. Unless that is, you want your kid to go through all four years of college hockey with less than 5 wins each season.

If what you want from your kid's educational experience is a win-quota, please, find something else to obsess about? Oh, and in the Ivy League, they would refer to it as "fewer than 5 wins." (If they talk about it at all.)

IF you are involved with the Brown program (and I am not), perhaps you should be considering another program.

The coaches want Canadian players for 2 reasons: 1) so they don't have to deal with parents breathing down their necks; and 2) because of No. 1, no local players want to go to Brown for hockey anymore.

Mr/Mrs Fan double Oh seven,

Last time you accused me of being "notfromaroundhere", now you are calling me a "Brown Nose Bear".

With all due respect, I started this thread for postings "All positive Brown" and "No Whining Allowed". If you want to whine or call people out, please start your own thread.

Our daughter is a first year Brown player, proud to be at Brown. As parents we are proud of her achievements both on and off the ice, and will support her, her team and her coaches who are part of that team, through thick and thin. She is at Brown to get a high quality education and to become a proud and strong young women, learning to work through adversity, learning to be part of a team through thick and thin and learning to rise above the occasion when others like you slap them in the face.

If you have nothing good to say, please don't say anything at all....Thank You.

Well, thank you Brown-nosed Bear of the year. Your daughter would be embarrassed at your comments. I believe when another person talked so fondly and proudly of her daughter on last year's freshman team, she was bashed here as a "helicopter parent". But then again, she was not supportive of the coaches, so she was not supported here. The team is struggling and will continue to struggle as long as the coaching staff remains unchanged. You want something positive? OK! I'm positive that nothing will change.

On the Contrary. I'm drumming up interested parties to support this team, otherwise would not have started this thread.

I'm one of those parents. If my daughter plays for four years at Brown, and comes out of it with a quality education and a good network of contacts to set out in the working world, that would make us (her parents) extremely happy. Sure it is nice to win more games, but that is not the only focal point for a student-athlete, specially at an Ivy school.

NewbieBrown-NosedBear: The apple doesn't fall far from the tree. Is this about your daughter making contacts? How about having your daughter making friends instead of brown-nosing her way into the business world. I had you pegged from Day 1. Now it's obvious. If Hockey isn't all that important to you, then this forum is the last place you should be. Trans[parent]cy at it's finest!

No and no.

Not all US parents breath down coaches' necks. Yes, there are plenty of bad hockey parents on both sides of the border and if you think parents who breath down coaches' necks are a good thing for hockey, you must be one of those bad hockey parents we keep seeing go off the deep end.

As to "local" players, if you knew anything about Digit, you'll know that she has been quite involved with girls hockey in RI over the years, much to the benefit of the local players. And if you look at "local" players, they have never been a significant part of Brown's roster.

You need to have fewer beers before posting on this thread. Your bad hockey parent behavior comes out after a couple.

p.s. I'm really not sure that a great set of core parents is actually a key ingredient to getting Brown back to its former glory haha. If it is, then I guess I’ll keep my fingers crossed for next years recruiting class to be another group of core parents for you.

Well if you are not interested in reading about Brown Hockey, I suggest you tune out of this thread. The rest of us will be happy to read without your insults to the parents of the current freshmen.

Listen, Notfromaroundhere - ya, that's obvious, is there any irony in the fact that Digit's been very active with local youths and none of them can make it onto Brown? Digit's got a hefty profit in her "local" investment so let's not go there. Let me know how many of those Rhode Island kids that she "trained" are on D1 teams? BTW, I don't do beer. NewbieBrownNose and I drink Cosmos together and make connections down at Wall Street - for our kids.

One of the best attitudes I've seen from a hockey parent. The boo-birds who have recently roosted here don't seem to get that. Keep the faith.

Re: Happy New Year to All

I am sitting here in Erie in the company of a handful of Brown parents who are "LOL'ng" over these posts. Their daughters are going to graduate with an Ivy League degree, something I can't say for my own daughter.....meanwhile, their daughters are having a great time enjoying the sport that they love. The good news is, the anti-Digit posts don't seem to be penetrating the morale of the current roster, NOT IN THE LEAST! :)

Seems like a great bunch of girls, great group of parents, with well intentioned coaches, who are in a very tough recruiting envrionment so long as they uphold their very rigid admission standards. All of this is a positive! These girls should be proud.....their parents should be proud.... and I am proud even just to know them and be in their company.

Hell, one of them will probably be my boss one day before I retire!

Keep sweeping those hallways. You'll make some good contacts there.

Yeah, the real 007 drinks a vodka martini (shaken, not stirred) and doesn't have to call the goodguys names.

And now you go and cast aspersions about Digit's work in youth hockey. Of course, you'd accuse Mother Theresa of not converting enough of the people she helped to Catholicism and skimming off the collection plate. I don't think you have enough inside information to back up your profiteering charge and clearly don't know the population she serves with her girls program. She doesn't make any real money off her youth program. It is a relatively small program and isn't marketed to the wealthy who want to buy their children a D1 fantasy. It is her camps where she serves the D1 prospects and wannabes and makes a fair return for what she delivers. And I don't begrudge her a bit for the camp operation.
