Re: First weekend is in the books

Re: First weekend is in the books

after a long bus ride home from princeton late saturday, the brown bears came out flat in the first period in today's noon tilt versus etobicoke. They were twice staring at a one goal deficit. The spunky bears got better as the game went along, and dominated the third period, eventually winning 5-2. The goalie duties were split 50/50. The first line looked dominant in the third period, netting two markers and the rookie line scored a pp goal. The win culminates a great weekend for the brown bears hockey team and coaching staff.

Next weekend will bring the first real game and also the first real test, an away game against bc. Hope many will be there to support the team.

Once again, I know who Newbiebear is, it is a parent of a Brown Player, and it most certainly is NOT Digit

Sorry to disappoint, but I really do know who Newbiebear is!

Thank you for rekindling the memories of that great first weekend for Brown. An excellent positive re-inforcement message for the home games this coming weekend against Union and RPI. Note that Brown is 2-0, undefeated at home year to date.

Preview of the games this weekend:

Go Bears and good luck this weekend against Union and RPI.

And a great weekend it was for the Brown Bears.

Despite the fact they were missing two key players, the Brown Bears stayed undefeated at home this year. They tied Union 1-1 on Friday and won 1-0 over RPI on Saturday to extend their unbeaten string to 3 games and to run their home record to 3-0-1.

While the Bears are outclassed by some other teams on paper, they are a hard working bunch that never quit. While the shot clock may make it look like they are badly outplayed, the Bears are staying in games and have a never give up attitude. The young players are all contributing and the goal tending is simply outstanding.

The 1-0 win on Sunday over RPI was truly a great team effort, with all four lines contributing. The Brown squad came out hard, looking very poised in the first period on Saturday. They had several glorious chances early, but were unable to cash in. While RPI slowly took control of the game in the second and third period, the Brown defense and goaltending stood tall keeping the game scoreless until late. It was a Brown rookie that cashed in on an RPI turnover late in the game to score the one and only goal of the game in the contest. The solid Brown team D then held off the RPI Engineers to earn the victory. Jamieson got the shutout and Hoyles the game winner. The night before the Brown Bears were a bit flat, but they managed to come away with a 1-1 tie vs the Union Dutchwomen. Griffin got the lone Brown marker. The goaltending duo of Moore (freshman) and Jamieson (Sophomore) combined for only 1 goal against in 125 minutes of hockey for the weekend.

Congratulations to the Brown Bears on a great weekend.

It won't get any easier next weekend as the northern teams from Clarkson and SLU visit town. Already looking forward to it. Go Bears Go.

Just so you know, it's RPI Engineers and the Union Dutchwomen. Us RPI fans are very sensitive to that and I don't want you to get yelled at. Thanks.

Bears run unbeaten string to four games

Preview of this upcoming weekend's home games vs the teams from the North Country, Clarkson on Friday and St-Lawrence on Saturday.

Go Bears Go.

Tonight was another typical Bears night, with a great effort that culminated in a 1-1 tie. The never say die Bears battled back to get a late equalizer with the extra attacker out to earn a 1-1 tie against the Clarkson Knights. During the OT it was the Bears who had the better chances to take the win, but a great save by the Clarkson goalie and a puck narrowingly going wide, saved the tie for the Knights.

With the tie, the Bears stay undefeated at home (3-0-2) and ran their unbeaten string to four games. During this stretch they have given up only three goals, and were at one point working on the 7th straight period of shutout hockey. This is thanks to stellar Goal tending, and great team D.

The Bears are simply getting better game after game. This was clearly reflected in the play today, specially in the second period, when the Bears took it to the Knights for lengthy stretches.

Way to go Bears.

Good luck tomorrow against the Saints.

Re: Bears run unbeaten string to four games

A bit of a dissappointing outcome in yesterday's game, specially considering that Brown played a better game Saturday compared to Friday. The SLU Saints have some dangerous snipers, and after Brown took a lead early in the second, SLU struck for three quick goals in a short span, two of them on the PP, to break the Brown Bears back. The Brown Bears never quit and kept on battling for the whole third period, eventually getting rewarded for a second goal.

While the outcome on the scoreboard was not the desired result, the play during the game itself showed the promising future for this team. The players never quit and play with a lot of enthousiasm and spirit. The Bears are looking better and better with every game they play. As with any young team, there are sometimes some lapses. That can be contributed to the growing pains of a young team on the rise.

Long story short, the future looks bright.

Another former Brown star in the News

Another former Brown star in the News

Former Brown standout Jodi McKenna, who currently serves as head coach at Wesleyan University, will serve as head coach of the 2011 U.S. Women's National Under-18 Team.

http://www.ecachockey.com/women/members/brown/20102411_McKennaHeadCoachUnder18

A 1998 graduate of Brown University, McKenna played four seasons (1994-98) for the Bears, and helped the team team capture an ECAC regular-season or tournament title three times. In her senior year when she was the Captain, Brown played in the first-ever women's ice hockey national championship contest, falling to the University of New Hampshire.
