He was "The Voice" of Citytv, but for those who knew and loved iconic CityNews reporter and anchor Mark Dailey, it was his heart and soul that will resonate loudest.
After a long battle with cancer, Dailey passed away on Monday at Sunnybrook hospital. He was 57.
His storied career in news began in 1968, when he worked as a radio and television reporter in Ohio. He went on to cover the mean streets of Motor City as a radio anchor and crime reporter in Detroit before heading over the border and joining the CHUM family in 1974.
The rest, as they say, is history, with Dailey becoming one of the most recognizable, trusted, and revered newsmen in the city.

Sorry for your loss. But tell me, what was that device the gentleman was hitting with his fingers in the newsroom? Some sort of musical instrument? I don't recall seeing anything quite like it.

One of my boyhood idols is now in hospice care-Bob Feller who is 92 has developed pneumonia to go with his leukemia. Darn he could throw hard. 3 no hitters and 12 one hitters. Lost a lot of time in the service or else his career numbers would have been much higher.

Don't forget Teddy Ballgame. He lost 5 seaons in TWO wars as a Marine fighter pilot. It's not hard to imagine him being the first to beat the Babe for career homers, he finished with over 500 despite losing 5 seasons right out of the heart of his career.
Very true-Feller lost 4 seasons at the height of his career also. As a kid i saw him very late in his career-but I cherish the baseball he signed for me in 1955-almost as much as the bat Stan Musial signed for me that year. Two of the truly greats of the game.
Wow. Speaking of bats, don't know if Stan's still got his restaurant, but when you walked in there would be 7 silver bats, one for each of the batting titles he won!
One of the nicest gentlemen to play the game-I waited 2 hours for him to come out after a double header (remember those?) at Ebbets Field in Brooklyn When he finally came out he asked this little kid(me) how long I was waiting and I told him. He asked my dad if it was OK to take me back into the clubhouse for a minute and I went in with him-he took his game bat and signed it and gave it to me. I don't think that kind of thing happens today.

Not without handing over some big coin for that to happen first.
