No wonder they have been showing many of her movies so much lately-Must have seen Cleopatra a couple times this past week. When she was younger, she was an incredibly beautiful girl.

One of my favorite photos of LT. She had such an air of knowing. Almost uniquely in that period (or in any period) she was a star who at least gave off the sense that she was an interesting human. And pretty much alone of all the sex symbols ever, she could act.

As a rule, the super attractive aren't any good at anything because they've been given everything all their lives. For whatever reason, she was as outstanding an actress as any homely girl who lost a role to her. That's very rare for the stage and virtually unheard of on film.

A legendary scene:

Big loss. Elizabeth Taylor was beautiful back in the day and a great actress. I recommend the following as her best films that I've seen.

1. Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?
2. Cat on a Hot Tin Roof
3. Suddenly, Last Summer
4. Butterfield 8

I'd add The Taming of the Shrew for a genius performance and Giant for being ridiculously, over-the-top sexy:

I have always been most attracted to the dark haired sultry look-(see Jane Russell i nthis thread). But I think the young Elizabeth Taylor had that market cornered. It was an entire package-and yes Kepler-she was one of those gorgeous ladies who could actually act.

I love reading how much you old farts were attracted to Liz. :)

She was one of a kind. And Who's Afraid of Virginia Wolf is one of my all time favorites.

Come on-even you younger guys have to see something special in pictures you see of Hedy Lamarr and Rita Hayworth. I was just a youngster in those days but when i saw them I knew that i was looking at something unique.:)

Speaking of gaseous emanations. She was a Grande Dame. And even though the Oscar for Butterfield 8 was almost entirely because she nearly died of pneumonia, she was still a very solid actress. Her "Maggie" in "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof" was classic and definitive. Even so, I still say Grace Kelly in "Rear Window" was the most beautiful thing I ever saw.

Among other things-Hitchcock sure knew how to pick those blondes? Grace Kelly, Kim Novak, Tippy Hedren, Janet Leigh( I don't ever think I saw a black bra on screen before), Eva Marie Saint, Ingrid Bergman and going back Marlene Dietrich.

She was a bad girl. But Norman straightened her out.
