Johnny Narron named hitting coach - he's Jerry's brother. You may also remember him from such jobs as Josh Hamilton's "accountability partner" while he was coaching with Texas.

Where's jen with the big news?

Ok, I'll fill in and try not to mess it up: Aaron Rodgers was named league MVP today

you might want to double check that :p

Brewers still a possibility for Prince Fielder (but I still don't see it happening). I read something yesterday that said the Brewers upped their offer a little bit - but I can't find the link now. Seattle would be OK with me, since the Brewers never play them. Washington would be acceptable. Chicago would be unacceptable. :p

Right now, I am more concerned about the bullpen and covering losses there.

Clubhouse sale is this weekend. Used champagne bottles are $250 each. That would be kind of a neat souvenir..... if it was, say $50.

Re: Brewers 2011 - Yo...Marcum for the post-season or jen may get a little Greinke

K-Rod accepted arbitration and Hawkins signed with the Angels.

Intriguing. Keep him or trade him? If he's not a distraction, he's obviously proven to be a great set-up man and the bullpen needs help right now. He knowingly put himself into a situation where he's not going to close, and I can see this backfiring. That's a pretty expensive set-up man who doesn't want to be a set-up man. So far he's been professional enough to no let it affect him on the mound... but how long is it going to stay that way?

No real Fielder news. Boras says action is "brisk", of course.

Brewers are going to sign Alex Gonzalez to play short. One year contract.

Re: Brewers 2011 - Yo...Marcum for the post-season or jen may get a little Greinke

Wha-?

National League MVP Ryan Braun, who last season led the Milwaukee Brewers to their first division title in nearly three decades, has tested positive for a performance-enhancing drug and faces a 50-game suspension if the initial finding is upheld, two sources familiar with the case told "Outside the Lines."

*raises eyebrows*

I came in here to see if there was anything else re: Fielder. I sure didn't expect that.

re: Braun. What I don't like is that this stuff is released by the media before it's official. If he ends up innocent, he's still guilty in the media and public eye. :(

How early in the process did the media jump in with A-Rod and Manny?

Oh no he di'int!

Source: Braun didn't take PED
By Tom Haudricourt of the Journal Sentinel
Updated: Dec. 11, 2011 1:00 p.m. | A very good source on the Ryan Braun side of the drug testing controversy assures me that Braun did not test positive for a performance-enhancing drug, as reported by ESPN's "Outside the Lines."

ESPN reported that Braun tested positive for a PED that gave him an abnormally high testosterone level, which proved to be synthetic and therefore not produced by the body.

But my source -- and again, this is from Braun's end and not MLB -- familiar with the test's findings says the "prohibited substance" was not a performance-enhancing drug or steroid of any kind. And the source says there has "never" been a result like this in the history of the MLB testing program.

The source said MLB "knows that Ryan is telling the truth" and that source firmly believes the postive test will be overturned. Pretty amazing stuff, huh?

The source said more detail couldn't be provided at this time because of the ongoing legal process. But suffice it to say that this is getting more interesting by the minute. If the prohibited substance wasn't a PED, it still triggered a positive result in MLB's steroid-testing policy.

I agree. And worse yet, they are afraid to go after child abusers, but they nail a guy for something even before the "process" has been completed, and what Braun supposedly did pales in comparision to the molesters.

I LOVE the Ramirez signing. He'll put up 30ish HR and hit .290 -.300, doesn't strike out a lot. He does tend to miss 10-20 games a year.

I really hated not getting Hairiston back. I think he was worth a 2 yr deal, considering Weeks and Ramirez to tend to miss games.

One complaint that I have about Melvin is that every year he turns over the bullpen. Why not try to resign Saito or Hawkins? Last year if they had the lead in the 6th or 7th, it was lights out.

Good luck to Casey in Pittsburgh.

He did but I think K-Rod accepting screwed up their budget on the bullpen and I'm not sure Melvin really got a chance to counter the offer for Hawkins or Saito from what I heard.
