Re: Bracketology

Somebodies bubble burst tonight with BSU losing to Niagara 5-4. That means either Niagara or Ala-Huntsville will be getting an Auto-Bid to this years tourney, while it is presumed that BSU will be getting an At-Large bid

Re: Bracketology

Jayson asks: Is it Doomsday?

So does this qualify as “Doomsday”?

Yes, there can be an argument made that the CHA should not have had their autobid extended to this season, but, the Championship Committee thought it was best for the game. So that’s where the argument should lie. Not whether or not Niagara, UAH or Bemidji deserve to be in the tournament, but whether or not, in the best interests of college hockey, that the Championship Committee should have recommended that the CHA keep the autobid with only four teams in the league.

I can’t wait for Bracketology this week.

At the moment, BSU is a #2 seed :p

Re: Bracketology

Meanwhile Brown shocks Yale tonight in Game 1 of their series and continues their inprobably play. If they were to make it to the ECAC Final, there would be some very nervous bubble teams watching the events in Albany.

Re: Bracketology

Well there will be one team that is happy with the upset tonight, the AHA winner. They no longer have to face the #1 overall seed in the first round.

Re: Bracketology

how do you figure a deserving team will be left out? define deserving?

Deserving = being in the top 15 of the PWR rankings.

Niagara or UAH aren't anywhere near the top 15, but one of those two guys will be getting a stop in the tourny. Thus, they will be taking a spot away from a more deserving team.

It's not automatic, but the AHA Champ can still be ranked lower than Niagara or Huntsville (44th and 45th in RPI. Mercyhurst, Army and Holy Cross are all ranked lower and still alive. Air Force and Canisius are also ranked in the 40's.

Re: Bracketology

Miami......Denver.......what's the difference really?

r

The big thing is if SCSU or UND get the final #1 seed and there is a WCHA team (UMD or CC) as a #4. The committee has already set the precedent that they won't protect a #1 Miami if the WCHA places 5 teams in the field.

Win and you're in. That's how nearly all NCAA tournaments work and it's a "fairer" system than the at-large bids, even in a sport with a transparent system for determining those bids.

I never said it was unfair or that is shouldn't happen. Just saying, its too bad Bemidji couldn't hold their end of the bargain.

The problem with that philosophy is that for every game played, there is a winner and a loser. Only 6 teams are going to win and get in. The other 10 spots in the national tournament are going to consist of teams that didn't follow that advice. BSU is one of them.

Sorry, I respectfully disagree. I feel that the top 10 are deserving, and the rest are added to fill out the 16 team tournament. Anyone from 11 to 15 are bubble teams and it is up to them to prove that they belong in the tourney.

That is a luxury that teams that play well enough throughout the season earn, I have no problem with the system. Well, except for the pairwise. :p

St. Cloud as a #1, yeah right! We just lost to Mankato, again. If the Huskies lose to Kato tomorrow are they still in the tourney unless a number of teams outside the top 14 win their tourney? I'm just waiting for the news that the Huskies will be the team to get bumped out if they lose tomorrow. Frustrating.

That's how I feel. No tears will be shed for #14 (or #13 or #15). Although BSU had the "easiest" path to an auto-bid among the top teams, I won't hold it against them any more than I hold it against any of the other top teams that get upended this weekend or next weekend.

Re: Bracketology

Anyone who thinks the winner of a CHA AQ doesn't deserve to be in the postseason needs to ask Jeff Jackson what he thought after his team had to go 2OT to beat Alabama-Huntsville in 1997.

That Alabama-Huntsville team had to win all three games, coming from behind in each one, to make the NCAA's.

I'm not saying UAH had a good team that year---it was pretty mediocre by our standards. But they were hot at the right time of year, which is March.
