Re: Bracketology

priceless what is the comp. between UND and Bemidji... the way it stands right now if it is close. I think attendance at st paul would be better with UND than Bemidji.. if they are realy close. thoughts?

BSU loses by .0005 RPI and have a 9-5 record against common opponents to North Dakota's 8-2-3. The two losses to Mankato really hurt. That said, RPI is the tiebreaker, so if they can pass UND there, it doesn't matter.

Also, BSU would win TUC if they get to 10 games...right now they're at 9.

It usually depends on the #1 seeds anyway. The committee doesn't like to break apart the 1/8 etc combos.

Re: Bracketology

Today's Bracketology:

Code:
[B]Albany Worcester Fort Wayne	St. Paul[/B]
Wisconsin Denver Miami St. Cloud
BC Yale UND Bemidji
Cornell Alaska UNH MSU
NMU AHA Champ UMD Ferris

To boost attendance, move the #3 seeds: Alaska to St Paul, MSU to Ft Wayne and UNH to Worcester.
[/CODE]

Two years ago, the last time the Regionals were in Worcester and Albany, UNH was a #1 seed and got stiffed by having to play in Colorado Springs. I can't see them getting sent West again.

Re: Bracketology

BC in Worcester or Albany is fine with me. :) The brackets could change again after today's BU-UVM game.

I don't think anyone of the top 4 teams wants BC in their bracket, no matter where it is. ;)

right now, i'd say no one wants North Dakota also, past month is just typical Sioux

Re: Bracketology

If NMU makes it to the championship game at Joe Louis for the CCHA do we have a shot at a top 10 pwr ranking?

It's really tough to even guess at this point. There is so much that can happen in the next 3 weeks. One interesting possibility is that the CCHA 3 rd place game could be a virtual play in game for the NCAA, depending upon who the teams are.

I think the committee would like to have UNH stay west since there aren't any eastern teams in the western brakets if UNH moves.

With that it might make sense to swap the whole eastern brackets, i.e. Wisconsin et. al to Worcester and Denver, et.al. to Albany. BC in Worcester would probably draw even more and RIT in Albany might draw more of their fans.

Re: Bracketology

I can't see how that Worcester bracket would happen considering the attendance disaster it would be. Boston College or UNH has to be in that bracket and the other in Albany.

Re: Bracketology

thanks priceless

bemidji would need either tosu or mankato to become a tuc.

mankato (31) has h/h with jan brady, then on the road in the playoffs (pool from bucky, jb, duluth)

tosu (30) has notre dame @H in the first round, then a road game...if seeds hold at miami

Wisconsin Denver Miami St. Cloud
BC Yale UND Bemidji
Cornell UNH MSU Alaska
Vermont AHA Champ UMD Ferris

The TUC line:

Code:

24	Michigan	0.5145

Re: Bracketology

RIT in Albany might draw more of their fans.

I think RIT anywhere but St. Paul would draw a decent amout of RIT fans, seeing as it would be their first NCAA tournament and the other destinations are in at least somewhat driveable (6-7 hours isn't THAT bad to watch your team in their first tournament appearance) distance. I know I would make that trip.

That being said, Albany would be ideal to get the most RIT fans.

UND plays in two regionals?

Re: Bracketology

I know very little about the inner-workings of the Pairwise, but have an observation/speculation. It would seem to me that the winner of the UAF-NMU quarterfinal series would get a huge boost in the PWC, assuming UAF avoids upset at the hands of WMU this week. The same could probably be said for the potential UNO-Ferris State match up in the quarterfinals.

Similarly, the NU-BU and UML-UVM series in Hockey East this weekend will have big implications on the PWC, correct?

Re: Bracketology

Giving you two chances to advance to the Frozen Four :p

That should be Alaska in St Paul.

If Alaska makes it in, I hope it's St. Paul. Minneapolis is a nonstop flight from Anchorage and an easy one stop (via Anchorage) from Fairbanks; it would be far and away the easiest travel route for us. And I'd be willing to bet there would be some Nanook faithful at that event if it were to happen, both those that live in the midwest and I bet quite a few from Alaska as well.

Correct. Right now, all the teams involved are TUC, which means any win is magnified.

Re: Bracketology

East:

1. Denver
2. Yale
3. Alaska
4. RIT

Midwest:

1. Miami
2. North Dakota
3. New Hampshire
4. Minnesota-Duluth

Northeast:

1. Wisconsin
2. Boston College
3. Cornell
4. Ferris State

West:

1. St. Cloud State
2. Bemidji State
3. Michigan State
4. Vermont

Not ideal for Denver and Wisconsin, but if you want to preserve bracket integrity, this is the best option attendance wise.

I don't think layovers would be a problem. The NCAA charters flights for the teams making the tournament and I know when BSU has been in it, they flew right into Bemidji. I would think they would do the same for Alaska.

Good point. I'd expect Alaska to charter a flight where ever they play, but they may have to cover the difference.

The NCAA allows a travel stipend. Some teams charter planes, but they have to cover any additional costs if the charter costs more.

Michigan chartered a flight to the Denver Frozen Four.

DU & CC shared a charter flight heading to Columbus in 2005.

DU & Air Force shared a charter flight in 2008 dropping DU off in Madison and and then taking Air Force to Worcester.
