Bowdoin ?

Re: Bowdoin ?

The only common opponent Salem State.

Bowdoin 6-3 over Salem State

Salem State 3-0 over St. Norbert.

I guess you never know how a a team will match up.

Re: Bowdoin ?

 Oswego beat Bowdoin 8-2 and then LOST TO ST. NORBERT IN THE FROZEN FOUR. This is indisputable proof of Eastern Bias and that another western team should have been included.

I nominate that Adrian should have been in the tournament twice. Adrian got hosed

Is this going to be a never ending debate as to who should have gotten in from the east and west? Its clearly over yet westerners keep complaining about it. Obviously the only team you are looking to take out of the tournament is Elmira right? If it were Manhattenville getting the pool B, would we still be talking about this?

I fully think that the inclusion of ADRIAN as an at large bid is great for the west...but this year that also screwed St. Scholastica...at least in my opinion.

With 11 teams in, the westerners seem like they will never be happy unless it is at least a 5-6 (west-east) split.

Additionally...how is Oswego's beating Bowdoin then losing to St. Norbert "indisputable proof of eastern bias" ??

Because everything is proof of eastern bias :D

Last year's 7-4 with 2 teams to the FF was barely acceptable. I do agree SNC should have had a bye, but they managed to make the ultimate game without it. The final four had 3 of the top 4 ranked teams in it, and the one that was not there (Midd) was beaten by #5.

Out of Norwich, Oswego, and Plattsburgh, who would you replace in the FF with a Western team, and which one?

Me...none of those :) but I guess that is eastern bias :p

I think this has been said before, and if the numbers are correct, there were 72 DIII teams this year. 48 East and 24 West. 24 divided by 72=.3333
11 teams were in the tourney. 11 teams times .333=3.663 teams from the west! 4 were chosen. I do agree that SN should have had a bye, but the NCAA criteria would not allow it because of possible outcomes after play-ins.
The numbers seem to track.

Re: Bowdoin ?

A year ago I started reading these "fan forum" things on that USCHO website. There were all these posters complaining about how Adrian got screwed! I'm thinkin to myself "who the he** is "Adrian"? Now I know better - but the complaining is still the same :D Being upset that a team got a raw deal, that I can understand. Beating it to death 3 weeks later is truely painful to watch. Start your own WestCAA and end the pain!

Re: Bowdoin ?

What is indisputable about the Eastern teams is that since 1995 they have won the Div 3 National Championship 13 times. The Western teams have won 3 times. Must be Eastern Bias!

Please dont use that excuse....it will only bring out more of the trolls...

11 of those titles come from one state - little old VT. (8 for Middlebury and 3 for Norwich).

Re: Bowdoin ?

When you have more teams in the tournament, you should have more titles.

If the West had 6 or even 5 teams in the dance each of the past 15 years, the numbers would be a lot different.

Oh, and I would have replaced Platty with GAC or Adrian in a heartbeat.

When the West gets enough teams that 5 or 6 would be a good proportional representation, they will get 5 or 6 in the tournament.

Re: Bowdoin ?

...its called putting in time as well..........

I will haggle with that. In theory, the concept of "putting in time" to earn anything is beyond stupid. Should be earned on merits alone, and since last time I checked DIII isn't some greaseball union, I'm not sure why that should matter, unless of course it's a self-protectionism issue.

Of course, perhaps the concept is in play considering the slug-like nature of certain people in certain places, but it should be irrelevant.

Agreed, the length of time a team has been a participating member should have no bearing on being selected as an at-large participant in the DIII tourney (unless there is some probationary obligation that must be first fulfilled for them even to be considered). If this was the sole reason Adrian did not get in last year, then the system sucks (worse than to the extent most think it sucks already).

Paying dues in general is an overrated concept. Unless of course you are the one coasting having already paid them ;)

I do not believe that time had anything to do with Adrian not getting in as an at-large bid last year.

PUT IN TIME......ugh Matt re-think that 1 for sure......Its a good theory, and have saved many a life and property.....
