Re: Bowdoin ?
I, for one, am very proud of the calibre of student who graduates from Norwich. In the classroom it doesn't matter whether a student wears a uniform or not - it is all about academic achievement. There are some policies at Norwich that I may have disagreed with, but the bottom line that the goal is graduating. The athletic department is very supportive of this, and Coach McShane, in particular, stresses that the players have to get it done in the classroom.
As for the "Cadets," that was the choice of the students from the time that civilian undergraduates and Corps of Cadets students were housed on the same campus. At one time, civilian students resided on the Montpelier campus and cadets in Northfield. As part of the transition to the current model, a number of issues were discussed by "transition committees." It was suggested that the athletic teams be either the Cadets, Horsemen, or Eagles. Cadets was the overwhelming choice of both student populations.
Don't reinvent history when there are some of us around who lived through it.
