Re: Boston Universtiy 2011-2012 Part IV: Dont stop fighting til the fight is done!

And I don't want to hear the "you're overracting - it's just one game" baloney. I think we all know that this team has been playing over its head for some time now. This is another disturbing trend...BC always overtakes us in the second half of the season. It would nice for US to be playing our best at the END of the year, for a change...

I agree with this. There is no such thing as "just one game" when it comes to a Beanpot game. Especially for Jack Parker's teams. Even when they haven't had the most talented teams, they always seemed to play their best games in the Beanpot (and I think they DID play one of their best games last night). The problem has usually been the let down afterwards. Have they already peaked?

Re: Boston Universtiy 2011-2012 Part IV: Dont stop fighting til the fight is done!

This is great news. Any chance they think about cutouts for baseball, or will it be too small?

Now if we could only build a football field...oh, wait...we have one. They use it for graduation every year!

At least I have fond memories of when we used to look out our dorm windows at West Campus (that's right - I went there BEFORE they even named the halls!) and watch the games... :D

And by the way, I never said the "sky is falling." I am just simply pointing out an undeniable fact...that BU tends to level off at the end of the season while BC typically turns it up a notch. You can take any "veiled" meaning that you want from that...but don't do the revisionist history thing. Facts are facts...

Re: Boston Universtiy 2011-2012 Part IV: Dont stop fighting til the fight is done!

Definitely one of the toughest losses in recent history. Probably the toughest one for me to take since the 2006 Regional final in Worcester.

Wow! That's a pretty strong statement. I don't even think they're in the same ballpark. First of all, in 2006 I believe we were ranked in the top 3 (maybe even #1) in the country at the time...we had OWNED BC that year (I think we beat them four consecutive games) and only needed that game to go to the Frozen Four. I think most of us expected to win it all that year (remember, it had been since 1995. ) Add to that the "giveaway" in front of the net for the first goal which deflated them so much that they never recovered, the way BC's forecheckers just stood at the half-boards in our zone and prevented ANY kind of breakout. It was total humiliation - and that includes the taunting from the BC fans at the Centrum (two of them in front of us were turning around all night and taunting my wife "You look like you're going to CRY!!!!") We actually called security to have them moved but after the game they found us and continued to taunt us. It was a totally miserable night and it ended a promising season. This Beanpot game (now don't say I'm sacreligious) meant nothing, except in the pairwise. This team is going to the playoffs and they control what happens from that point on. I'm not discounting your opinion - just saying that I don't really see how they even compare. In a couple of days we'll be on to the next game. There was no next game that year...

Re: Boston Universtiy 2011-2012 Part IV: Dont stop fighting til the fight is done!

Was it Gilroy that had a pretty good look in the slot at the end of regulation? Believe he one timed one over the net.

Yes, he "Cundiffed" the shot.

Re: Boston Universtiy 2011-2012 Part IV: Dont stop fighting til the fight is done!

I think the most important aspect of the Beanpot win was the PWR push BC got...vaulting ahead of BU. Up until now, BC was chasing a chance to be in an Eastern Regional. They've flipped it for the time being. Obviously a lot left to be decided.

As for that NCAA game a few years back, I remember BU hitting the post in the first period and it being 1-0 into the 2nd period. Hell, it was 2-0 well into the 2nd. Not sure how you guys were on the PP that year or how many SHGs you gave up, but things really didn't unravel until the two late 2nd period goals.

Not hockey related but in case you missed it... we're getting a new field and a Men's Lax team.

Good news for the athletics department overall. Now if only we could find a new conference....

The CAA would be a better conference...NU is in there for local flavor, they play better bball and soccer, not sure on lax but I suspect it would be at least as good. They do have a team in GA so some travel would be long but if NU can do it I suspect BU could too.

Looking at the AE and CAA websites... From what I gather, currently 6 America East Schools have mens lacrosse. (Albany, Binghamton, Hartford, Stonybrook, UMBC, UVM) BU soon to be the 7th. And 7 teams listed in the CAA for mens Lax (Including UMass and Penn State and St Joes?!!?) So there must be conference exemptions for mens lacrosse?

Edit: And looking at the A-10 website (which I believe is the Conference BU has its sights on for long term) it looks as if the A-10 does not have mens lacrosse as a conference.

Off the top, missing a wide open net is called pulling a Saponari here at BU. Hence the term, a "Saponari hat trick" aka: three wide open nets missed in a game.

Like the new facility even though I don't give much thought about lacrosse. The funny thing is if you look at old pictures of Braves field from above, you'll see that old warehouse next door was around even back then and didn't look much better than it does now. Only sports thing left to do now is get rid of that train yard behind campus (CSX is moving out to Worcester and although Harvard owns it now BU does have an option to buy the portion near campus) and build a proper stadium.

Regarding the Beanpot, it doesn't rank that high on my list of disappointments. They came in too hyped up, made mistakes and paid for it against a team good enough to capitalize. That's a good lesson to learn in time for the much more important HE tournament. Now if they are coming back down to Earth, that's a problem but really I wasn't going to be satisfied with only a Beanpot victory this season anyway given how wide open both HE and the NCAA's are this year.

Well, that's factually true, but if you were sitting there as a BU fan there was a BAD feeling right after that first goal. It's hard to explain, but you know how sometimes you just get the feeling that you could play for a week and not score? That's how it felt that night, at least from my perspective.

I don't think they're in the same ballpark, either. By "recent history" I was referring to the period since that loss in Worcester.

I know there are bigger prizes at stake later this season, but it stung to lose a great game where they played hard and were *that* close to getting another chance in the 2nd OT....

I'm really interested to see how they respond this weekend b/c this Lowell series is hugely important from both a conference and national standpoint.

Re: Boston Universtiy 2011-2012 Part IV: Dont stop fighting til the fight is done!

I spent a few minutes last night re-watching the goals in the game. Poor decisions seems to contribute to the first and last BC goals.

- On the SHG, Connolly was on our defensive blue line watching Nicastro and Mullane, and surprisingly decided to head for the bench. Now I know in general, you don't expect a d-man to get beat one-on-one, but when you look at the wide path that Mullan had to take and the fact that Nicastro is ailing, I think if Connolly stays on the ice, BC does not score there.

- On the GWG, both Gill and Megan opted to head for the bench after Gill's failed attempt to get into the offensive zone. BC did such a good job of transitioning the puck the other way, I'm not sure Megan or Gill would have caught up to Arnold, but they might have.

Re: Boston Universtiy 2011-2012 Part IV: Dont stop fighting til the fight is done!

I don't even know if Nicastro really got beat. He at least forced Mullane to the outside, but Mullane got all of that one with a quick snapper. Probably even caught Millan off guard a little bit. It surprised me to be honest with you.

Kudos to Dumoulin on the GWG. He not only broke the play up, but he got his *** down the ice and while didn't screen Millan, he drove to the net and was about to pass by Millan right when the shot came. Perhaps that led to Millan not making a save I think he could have had.

No need to inject that money grubbing crowd at Fenway into a discussion about one of the few remaining reasonably priced sports ...college hockey

?????

I do ok, and $100 for four tickets makes me have to rationalize it first (that's like three lap dances!!!)

Don't forget about Connolly inexplicably coughing up the puck in the corner on the Kreider goal.

I know she doesn't post here anymore but I'm sure someone will pass along my thanks for this gem:

In reference to Garrett Noonan:
His focus Monday night was reminiscent of his focus and intensity from the entire season. He has contributed in every possible area in order to help his team win, and in the process, Noonan has evolved as the premiere defenseman not just on the team, but also in the league.

I wondered why Arnold had soooooooo much time to gather that puck, wait, wait, wait, and then pick his corner. I knew Gill was out of the play due to his attempted rush. Sucks that Megan couldn't get back.

Another tidbit that hasn't been discussed: Chiasson had three golden opportunities to score goals and couldn't come up with the quality shot to get it done. One in the 1st really stung. Lots of net to shoot at he fired it right into Milner's belly.

Ya, that's pretty embarrassing. Guess she's just looking at goal totals
