Boston University Part IV: Off-Season or New Season?

Re: Boston University Part IV: Off-Season or New Season?

while i'm not sure about the probability of having games at fenway frequently, i do think it would be cool for the ncaa to do an outdoor hockey game every season at various locations (like the nhl's winter classic). it's a cool atmosphere for the players and fans alike, especially when it's a marquee rivalry such as bu-bc or michigan-michigan state.

by the way, i was at frozen fenway and i'd go back again in a second. would i do it every year for 10 years straight? definitely not, but i'd certainly go next season or in two years or whenever it happened again (if it were to happen again)

Re: Boston University Part IV: Off-Season or New Season?

It was brutal, something that was nice to be there but don't want to do again.

First of all the quality of play was crap. Second, had to watch the game on a big screen. No thanks.

Being in Fenway when it was snowing was pretty surreal though.

Yeah, I do not think another Frozen Fenway game would ever top the first one. BU coming off a national championship season, BC getting started on theres. The oddity of hockey being played in a baseball park and even better that it was Fenway. And it was snowing. You can not have it any better than that. Maybe again in a decade or two.

Plus, who would want to see urine colored BC jerseys again so soon?

(Why did I say urine, because this board censors out the slang word)

Re: Boston University Part IV: Off-Season or New Season?

Meh, once was enough for me. Virtually no good seats at Fenway for a hockey game.

I paid a premium to get up on the Monster and the views were good. I froze my rear off though. The beer literally froze in the cup.

BUT...I'm 100% with JD on this one. This is way too soon.

Is there no end to John Henry's money making schemes?

Re: Boston University Part IV: Off-Season or New Season?

Eh, I give it a C+. You've had better ones.

Yeah, I was reaching. Couldn't think of anything that rhymed with "decision." Just gotta forget about it and move on. Nothing I can do about it now. I'm already focused on the next post. Every post is important, so I can't dwell on this.

From the UNH thread:

David Quinn believed to be on short list of interested candidates for the Providence College head coaching job. (Providence Journal link)

That would be a great hire. I hope it happens.

Anyone else think of BU's game plan against Michigan in the 1997 Semi's while watching what Michigan did to The Sioux last night?

Re: Boston University Part IV: Off-Season or New Season?

For all of the "fire Parker" advocates, it's interesting to take a look at the North Dakota thread this morning. A lot of the posts sound "familiar" ( "[insert coach's name] can coach any more talented team to a loss" etc). If you really want to be objective (not that we do :D), name another team that has failed to win the National Championship in the last decade with arguably the most (or close to the most) talent year in and year out. It's eleven years and counting now...just puts things in perspective a little bit AND demonstrates how DIFFICULT it is in a "one and done" scenario to avoid the "bad" game and go all the way (right, BC fans?)

Re: Boston University Part IV: Off-Season or New Season?

No secret that this thing is hard to win. That's why making the tournament is the most important thing. Funny things happen along the way. It's simple...the most talented teams don't always win this thing. Even BU in 2009, it was quite a "struggle" after Ohio State.

Absolutely. It's just "refreshing" to hear almost the SAME posts verbatim applied to someone else...almost funny. For example...

Those titles are the only thing keeping Lucia from getting fired at this point. Which could be viewed as both a blessing and a curse from Gopher fans...yeah, the titles were won, but now you have to suffer through years of mediocrity because of them.

And as far as the "out-coaching"...enlighten me, Happy. What would you have done differently in Hakstol's shoes tonight? Dominate the opponent even more? Getting outcoached has nothing to do with Hunwick standing on his head and Michigan playing UAA hockey for the last two periods after they scored first.

The Two National Championships say that at least he had it at one time, unlike someone like hakstool, who had a better team, and got completely out coached.

It's hysterical...

If you look at the Vermont game, we actually controlled the game for the better part of it, and were it not for a few very soft goals, they may not have been in it. Don't forget we were a post away from a commanding 3-0 lead in the first, but instead it went off the post and they got 3 softies over the next 10-15 minutes of play. But you're right, it's hard to look at games on paper, in any sport, and determine the winner from that. Hell, look at the NCAA bouncyball tournament this year, upsets galore. Fortunately, the good guys came out on top. Of course, those who prefer a BCS-like system will say that it doesn't necessarily determine "the best team."

Re: Boston University Part IV: Off-Season or New Season?

Bomber, I was thinking the EXACT same thing. All we need now is Frattin to win the Hobey while "Sometimes the best team doesn't always win" and it would be de ja vu all over again.

I feel bad for Hakstol a bit because the comment about what do you want him to do, he ran into a hot goalie, is something that can't really be applied in any other sport. Because the goaltender has more influence as a singular player over the game than almost any other position in sports, if you run into a guy who's simply not letting anything past him, as a coach, there isn't a whole heck of a lot you can do aside from encourage your team to keep throwing the puck at the net, create opportunities, look for loose rebounds, maybe change some formations. But if you're getting as much pressure as UND did last night, and the puck's just not getting past the guy, as a coach, you're very limited in what you can do.

Re: Boston University Part IV: Off-Season or New Season?

You can run him. Can't goalie with a broken leg..

I don't know about that. Bill Russell, Sandy Koufax and Bob Gibson, to name a few, had quite a bit to say about who won the games in which they participated.

Re: Boston University Part IV: Off-Season or New Season?

I think slurpees was referring to the position opposed to the player.

BTW slurpees the "good guys" didn't win

I was right, you were the first BC guy to comment on that. I figured it was a coin flip between you and Frosted Flakes. I think I saw a guy in a BC hat in Houston. Might've been a V though. Who knows, I don't know the alphabet, I went to BU.

You are correct, I was talking about the nature of the position, not specific players at a position. Even so, there are secondary options for an offense against a dominating center and a dominating pitcher. There isn't much else you can do against a dominating goalie outside of mookie's suggestion.

Re: Boston University Part IV: Off-Season or New Season?

Geography has a lot to do with MSG for me but I wouldn't go to Fenway for hockey because of the risk of poor seating. Same reason I wouldn't go to a soccer game in a baseball park (Celtic FC at Fenway)...it just isn't built for the sport and for every good seat there are 10 bad ones. .

The way the Sox are playing, I'm not sure I'd go to Fenway for a baseball game.
