Boston University Part IV: Off-Season or New Season?

Re: Boston University Part IV: Off-Season or New Season?

I was right, you were the first BC guy to comment on that. I figured it was a coin flip between you and Frosted Flakes. I think I saw a guy in a BC hat in Houston. Might've been a V though. Who knows, I don't know the alphabet, I went to BU.

You are correct, I was talking about the nature of the position, not specific players at a position. Even so, there are secondary options for an offense against a dominating center and a dominating pitcher. There isn't much else you can do against a dominating goalie outside of mookie's suggestion.

IMO, what the M goalie did last night wasn't a perfect game, but it was a no-hitter. He had some rebounds and some close calls but no runs scored. While hockey teams can try to get people in front, throw the puck at the net, try to go high vs. low...just like a baseball team can try to work the count, bunt, lean into one etc, at the end of the day there are times when nothing works.

Both pitchers and goalies benefit from defensive play in front or behind them. The ump or wild swingers can really help the pitcher and the goalie can sometimes look more outstanding if the D breaks down and they make some stand on the head saves. A hot goalie is like Steve Carlton, you can play on a bad team and still be the only reason your team won because you are unavoidable...shut down corners, great basketball centers can be avoided as part of a game plan...you can't avoid the goalie (which makes it easier to break his leg)

Re: Boston University Part IV: Off-Season or New Season?

They shot on my end twice (I was behind um goal 1&3 period). Lot of the shots were far out win no interference. Many times und had a good look but waited too long, tried to move instead if shooting, or had blocks. Many times the puck was loose in front but the Sioux couldn't get a shot. Granted there were a handful of grea saves, but he didn't need to stand on his head all night.

Re: Boston University Part IV: Off-Season or New Season?

That would be a great hire. I hope it happens.

Anyone else think of BU's game plan against Michigan in the 1997 Semi's while watching what Michigan did to The Sioux last night?

Well I fast forwarded through a good portion of that game, so I can't say that came to mind.

However, I sure looked longingly at the UMD power play. Man they made it look so easy. Their ability to control the puck in the zone was incredible. I miss that.

Re: Boston University Part IV: Off-Season or New Season?

Not that this has anything to do with anything, but there's a channel on the hotel TV that is showing every NCAA tournament OT game (just the game winning goals). It's awesome. What a trip down memory lane. Right now they're up to the 2005 regional between Bemidji and Denver. I've seen the BU 3 OT loss to NMU but missed the 2000 regional final against SLU and the 1998 regional final loss to UNH. Maybe I can catch that at some point tomorrow. I'm going to watch tonight till the 2009 national championship game. :) They're running them non stop.

is this an actual channel or something special the hotel is doing?? that's all-nighter TV material right there.

They probably could have used that last year on the Jumbotron to keep the crowd excited. At least this year the games are compelling.

The channel title says "Hotel" so I'm assuming it's something special the hotel is doing. As we watched, it ended with 2005, not 2009, though someone else told me they saw 2009. Kinda disappointed about that. Put that TV on this morning and am currently looking at the Michigan-BC regional final from 2004. It started with the 1988 Lake St.-St. Lawrence national championship, 1988!! The uniforms, the telecast. It's just pretty comical. So many of the players mentioned in all of these OTs made the NHL.

Re: Boston University Part IV: Off-Season or New Season?

Been thinking about this and decided to wonder aloud here. Would like to hear other people's thoughts. It sounds like Quinn is one of the leading candidates for the PC job, which got me thinking about how that might affect his candidacy for the BU job when it becomes available. The fact that he's interested in PC leads me to believe he'd be more than interested in the BU job. Clearly he's not dead set on getting to the NHL and is open to coming back to college. Otherwise his name wouldn't even be in the PC conversation.

But if he gets hired by PC, I'd imagine he would've had to give them some sort of assurance that he'll be there more than 2 or 3 years or however long it is until Parker retires. I can't imagine PC hiring him if they know/think he'll bolt for BU as soon as Parker leaves. Cavanaugh from BC is another frontrunner for the PC job, but similar to Quinn, his name's near the top of the list to replace York when the time comes. Seems to me that either guy would be a risky hire for PC given the fact that they could be candidates for an even better job in a couple years. Unless PC knows they won't be candidates, which I'd find hard to believe.

Just figured I'd throw it out there to see what people think this means for Quinn and BU, if anything.

So, does this mean that Quinn has decided to exit Cleveland after the season?

I don't think he has decided anything for sure but he certainly seems like he would be more than willing to leave for the right college job at least in my opinion. Even if he doesn't leave for PC he seems like he is considering it which would mean he would definitly consider the BU job when Parker retires.

Re: Boston University Part IV: Off-Season or New Season?

Not trying to be facetious here, but is that your opinion or have you actually heard that from people?

Have heard from several
heard quinn is lead guy for BU and will bring foley and lilly with him

they were very good together at natl program

Re: Boston University Part IV: Off-Season or New Season?

I meant Quinn is lead canidate for PC, word is that it is his if he wants it

Will be interesting to see who gets it between
Quinn
Cavanaugh
Leeman
Pearl
Bennett
Peters

All great canidates

Re: Boston University Part IV: Off-Season or New Season?

My feeling is that Quinn reconciled himself with the non-availibility of the BU job awhile ago. If he had an inkling that the BU job was his to have in a reasonable amount of time, I think he would have stayed at BU. Instead, Quinn moved on, building his coaching resume. I believe he will seriously look at the PC job. If he takes it, I believe he will do a good job there. As for Mike Sullivan being next in line at BU - I'm not sure anybody is "next in line" yet.
