Boston University Part IV: Off-Season or New Season?

Re: Boston University Part IV: Off-Season or New Season?

Two USCHO columnists have suggested that Miami and Notre Dame could go to Hockey East with the shake-up from this whole Big 10 conference thing.

I would think that this would be an impossibility because I think that Hockey East is perfectly happy with its New England only footprint and would not want to bring in 2 teams from the midwest. Does anyone think that this is a good idea or one that even has a chance of happening?

i dont see hockey east being affected. i see miami as a perfect fit to replace one of the departing teams in the WCHA.. maybe notre dame too, maybe not. I could see notre dame joining the big 10 conference as well or going independent like their dopey football brethern (ok probably not).

but seriously, the CCHA is going to be decimated and the WCHA is going to be needing to replace the star power that is leaving and will certainly look to poach the remaining good teams in the CCHA. seems like the obvious solution.

I don't think the "inevitable" vibe surrounding BC has been seen on a team since . . . Michigan in 1997. Hmmmm . . .

1) benn ferriero's senior season

I know hokydad already responded to this one, mook... but apparently deleted it. Either way, it bears repeating. The kid was hurt all year long and played through it. In no way was he dogging it or had on foot out the door.

I like the way you work sir...can't really decide who to root for this weekend. The ECAC side of me wants one of their teams to do well....so I think I might be a Yale/Union/(Rpi???) fan this weekend

My friend, you would be better served dreaming about the fine, dark haired beauties outside on your sidewalk. It is indeed going to happen, so get ready. ;)

I personally don't see this happening. Pure speculation on their part...which is fine. I just don't think it makes a whole lot of sense. As Steve said, it's more likely that Hockey East minds its business and lets the CCHA and WCHA duke it out.

Re: Boston University Part IV: Off-Season or New Season?

According to FlagDUDE's post in the 2011-12 schedules thread, BU will not be playing RPI next season. So that leaves BU with the Beanpot, RHH, Denver, Holy Cross and two open spots.

Re: Boston University Part IV: Off-Season or New Season?

Warsofsky wont be missed, he peaked during the 2009 Beanpot, he progressively got worse after that. He had “one foot out the door” to an AHL career, lol. He will be lucky to get a sniff in the NHL. Another Parker success story motivation-wise. Gilroy had special character that transcended Parker’s inability to lead and motivate that’s why he had a great senior season. This crap about Parker giving his blessing for kids to leave shows so much arrogance and self importance on his part. I cant see York doing that, and it looks like they are losing no one from their underclass and that includes some legitimate NHL types i.e. Krieder, Hayes, Cross, Samuelson, Atkinson and Duomolin. Looks like they will be the dominant program in the country again next year if they get any kind of goaltending. Mookie says BU is a “hockey school”, then lately they are really doing a miserable job at that as well. I like the comparison of Coach K (York) to Coach Cal (Parker) based on Mookie’s comments about getting kids ready for the pros. I think most would prefer having a Coach K run program.

Bantam superb accounting of the good old days when men were men and BU hockey was BU hockey. Now then you could truly say BU was a hockey school and say it proudly. The recounting of the 1977 ECAC’s was beautiful that was one great tournament and don’t forget the quarters where Joey Mullen put up 4 or 5 goals against us and I think that was an 8-7 score as well. You are right about Ricky Meagher the best BU hockey player ever hands down, phenomenal college player and put him on the ice with Joey Mullen at the same time was a treat to see. College hockey has really been watered down since those days with the # college programs out there now, juniors and guys jumping early. Keep that good stuff coming.

I'm just about speechless after watching that video. I thought it might be some highlights of their great season....boy was I wrong. Major kudos to the WMU team for doing so much good to people who need it. And kudos to the family for taking the time to put that video together to show wha the WMU family did - I suspect the Broncos did little to garner attention for their good deeds.

The beauty of it is, that you realize that it really doesn't matter how they do on the ice from here on out. Hockey game results are trivial compared to what that family has been going through.

In case anyone likes that music as much as I do - that is Explosions in the Sky, I think the song is "Your Hand in Mine". It was one of the theme songs from Friday Night Lights (the movie - never watched the TV show, so I don't know if they used it on there as well).

A couple things here...

You don't think it's possible that Warsofsky could have rebounded from a disappointing season? Even so, his offense from the backline absolutely will be missed. BU's PP was bad enough WITH someone as skilled as him.

As for BC and early departures, I would expect Atkinson and Jimmy Hayes to leave. Dumoulin said he is coming back and I think it would be best if Kreider/Cross returned. Still, losing Gibbons, Muse, Whitney, Atkinson and J. Hayes will be tough to replace in one year.

Comparing Coach K to York? Bleh...there's just something about K I don't like ;)

BC will not be close to dominant next year. Could be very similar transition year to 2 years ago when they didnt make NCAA's

Losing Muse, Atkinson, Gibbons, Whitney, Hayes for sure, maybe Cross and or Kreider is to much for 18 year olds to fill

Re: Boston University Part IV: Off-Season or New Season?

The recounting of the 1977 ECAC’s was beautiful that was one great tournament...

I didn't see that...where was the post(article)? So I don't know if it was just about BU, but I can tell you that the semifinals of that tourney were two of the best games back to back I have ever seen. In the first game, UNH beat Cornell (I think it was 10-9) on a Bobby Gould slapper in the 2nd overtime. Then, we were down 5-3 to Clarkson before scoring three in the last five minutes (I think the winner was Silk). And, of course, the building was SHAKING....this was the old Gahden without the acoustical ceilings and all that nonsense. One of the loudest crowds I have ever heard...I can still remember shaking during those games!!
