Boston University Part IV: Off-Season or New Season?

Might have been my mistake, as BU is 13th in the RPI, but maybe there was a hiccough in the link, 'cause I don't think I would have scrolled lower. Sorry if I got other people as confused as I was.

No worries... My ignorance (and dislike) of the PWR is showing... How does RPI jump back ahead of BU when neither team played?

I'm afraid we've got a who's-on-first routine on going here. By RPI I meant ratings-percentage-index (not the school in Troy). On the statistical rpi, BU is well ahead of Rensselaer, as it happens. By the way, KRACH has been kinder to BU most of the last month, but it now has BU sitting at 17, too.

Re: Boston University Part IV: Off-Season or New Season?

Very disappointing season overall. We're gonna miss the tournament for the second year in a row with teams that both should've at least made it into the tourney. I still love the way this team is potentially setup for next year and I really liked the overall progress and promise of the freshman class, but taking away that...this is rough.

I think Warsofsky needs to come back and show that he can dominate, because I rarely saw the player that I was excited to see the Bruins acquire when he played this year. I think Coyle definitely needs to take a page from the Wilson book and come back and try to put together a full season of good play.

The good thing is just how good some of the young'ns are, but it woulda been a lot better for them to make a good run here and get some sorely needed playoff experience.

Re: Boston University Part IV: Off-Season or New Season?

interesting fact.

this sr class leaves with a perfect ncaa tournament record.
and this sr class leaves with no time played in an ncaa tournament game.

Re: Boston University Part IV: Off-Season or New Season?

Too soon for me to do the mental wrap-up for this year. Right now I'm thinking:

Coyle -- 26 pts
Clendening -- 26 pts
Gill -- 25 pts
Nieto -- 23 pts
Noonan -- 15 pts

All freshmen. That's gotta be a positive for the off-season fan's brain.

Re: Boston University Part IV: Off-Season or New Season?

I especially love the way Clendening, Nieto and Noonan improved over the course of the year. All three started slow (I was especially disappointed with Clendening in the first half), but they all really came on and played well over the second half. Nieto looks like he could put up some really big numbers in the next couple years, while I think Noonan needs to calm down a bit but he can be a really effective two-way defenseman and has been a wonderful surprise. Clendening is never gonna be Shattenkirk - he's just too slow - but is an excellent passer and really sees the ice well. Here's hoping he can improve his skating enough to become an even bigger difference maker.

Coyle played well initially after the WJC, but ran out of gas. Hopefully with a full year under Boyle we don't see that next year. If Gill puts together a solid year front to back and Chiasson plays as well next year, it should be a really good team up front.

Hopefully a second year of captaincy from Connelly shows him the urgency necessary and him and whoever else wears a letter (hopefully Warsofsky) can inspire the same attitude and accountability that Matt Gilroy and John McCarthy did. This should be a true contender in 11-12.

Re: Boston University Part IV: Off-Season or New Season?

Let the early signings begin! Coyle and Warsofsky for starters anyone?

Are you a Bruins fan? Just wondering because I'd like your honest assessment of Warsofsky for the Bs. I thought this was his worst season at BU and I legitimately would like to see him use his talent and skill to dominate much more than I saw him do so this year. I think he can play a lot better on this level and prove something his senior year, and I just don't know that a guy that small benefits from a year at Providence at this point. I want him to turn into a power play asset for the Bruins, but I don't think he's ready to do that yet, so I'd like to see him stay.

Given Warsofsky's longstanding connection to the BU program, I'd like to think he wants to come back and finish on the right note. But I am just guessing. Also, is the consensus that Chiasson is staying?

Re: Boston University Part IV: Off-Season or New Season?

I would like to see Warso and Coyle gone. Warso peaked in the 2009 Beanpot and his defense is atrocious and he has a two cent brain. If Coyle is destined to leave after next year then just save us the frustration of watching him try to stay on his skates and leave now. The other Freshman had good to decent seasons and Clendening is a future All-American if he stays. Unfortunately its not just talent that they are lacking but leadership on the bench. Call me crazy but I am holding out hope that he calls it quits. 3 out of 4 yrs with no NCAA's and probably 3 BC NC's and the supposed effect of having Agganis as a recruiting tool, has been an epic failure to this point.

Re: Boston University Part IV: Off-Season or New Season?

25 n Countin': Add Courtnall to your list. He was great the last couple of weeks.

Things to be thankful for now that the BU season is over:

- We don't have to watch back passes to the point miss the mark by 5 feet.
- #9 can't cross-check or hit someone from behind at the worst possible momment.
- We don't have to worry about whether we're going to get good Millan or bad Millan. (2nd goal=bad.)
- Clearing attempts that end up on the tape of the opposing defensemen? Not until October.
- Our thighs will be spared a slap when a BU player receives a nice cross-ice pass only to fumble it or take 2 seconds to get off a shot.
- We don't have to watch the BU power play anymore.

Now that I'm done with the snark.

Northeastern had the players that could finish tonight. BU, not so much. BU played hard the last two periods, but alas.....

Bernie and Tom seem to think they are going to be a force next year. I'll believe it when I see it.

Do we have a good goalie come in?

We'll miss you Joey. A proud Terrier through and through.

Re: Boston University Part IV: Off-Season or New Season?

terriers could use some consistent doses of tiger blood during the offseason. perhaps some baby tiger blood.

disappointing season. here's to hoping next season has a lot more winning in it.

tiger blood, and winning.

Re: Boston University Part IV: Off-Season or New Season?

really going to miss Joey P. It was always nice knowing that there was one guy on the team that would give his all every shift, playing almost as if it could be his last. Really learned how to reign it in the right way too and not take bad penalties, something he was almost sure to do early on. I also remember his freshman year loving to watch him rush out to the opposing blue and try to cherry pick and breakaway again and again. He came a long way from that

If only it caught on a little more...just wish in the end he could've at the very least gotten a win in his final home game and a chance to play in the tourney.

Best of luck to him where ever he goes...does he play another legit game ever again?

"BU isn't dead yet.

CC loses to Wisconsin + Dartmouth loses 1 game in AC + WMU finishes 4th in CCHA + cut line remains 15 = BU invite"
