Re: Boston University Part IV: Off-Season or New Season?
Ding ding ding. Agreed with all of that. I was at the game and was pleasantly surprised to be at a game where I felt everyone was excited and they showed it. The last 5 minutes were amazing. The stunned looks on the Stony Brook fans was just as amazing.
Anyways, I think basketball always has the chance to be louder because there are more things to cheer for. There is not a lot of down time in between scoring. (Well, except for the first 10 minutes of yesterdays games). It can also seem louder because maybe a good forth of Agganis was closed off because of the curtain. But even aside from that, the fans looked a lot more animated than any recent hockey game. I think at hockey games the fans who are not students kind of expect the students to make all the noise just because that's how it has always been. Hopefully that changes and those fans join in on the fun.
Two reasons.
One:
It's the difference between rooting for a team that's surpassing the low expectations for it (historically) vs. a team that's historically expected to win...been there..done that.
It's why the NU fans are so much louder too.
Two:
I think a lot of it has to do with the non-student fans. Heck, when was the last time you got anone in the middle sections to cheer "Go BU" or to stand and cheer for anything other than a goal, or the last .5 secs of a win. There was a lot of noise form those middle sections today...maybe cause there were more students there? not sure
We've been critcising the students for not showing/being too quiet a lot lately...the alumns and off the street fans need to do their part too.
