Boston University Part IV: Off-Season or New Season?

Re: Boston University Part IV: Off-Season or New Season?

Did everyone enjoy seeing the 91 and 09 highlights during the selection show? It made BU seem a bit less irrelevent anyway.

BU Hockey: RPI=RIP (2010-2011 season)

Re: Boston University Part IV: Off-Season or New Season?

We'd be 11th had we beaten rpi and likely playing in one of manchester or bridgeport.
Forgive me because I don't have as firm a grasp on these mathematical things like the PWR but how could that be possible? What would have changed mathematically speaking if we had beated RPI that would have gotten us into the tournament? If that really is the case the NCAA should start some kind of investigation into how they can make the tournament selection more fair because that's just not right.

I believe that our % against TUC would be slightly better, and that it would be enough to flip several pairs with ECAC teams (COp), putting us on firmer ground in terms of selection into the tournament. In the end, it doesn't matter because BU had plenty of chances to get themselves in despite losing to RPI, and they were unable to get those wins.

Ahahahhahahhhaahahha.

My God... you fanboys are always coming up with something hilariously stupid. An investigation by the NCAA? Why not get Congress to look into it!

Re: Boston University Part IV: Off-Season or New Season?

I don't understand the logic behind "hey, RPI shouldn't make it ahead of us even though they beat us!". Both teams lost in their first playoff series and have similar records.

Makes perfect sense to me! I suggested three weeks ago to forget about the PWR and just concentrate on WINNING GAMES and I got crucified for it...oh, I'm sorry...I'm supposed to give it a rest! Forgive me!

Too bad Arlen Specter isn't in the US Senate anymore.

Anyone know the timeline that players leaving early would make a decision by? Obviously depends on the guy and the NHL team but I would think we would hear if Warso and co are leaving or not sometime this week or next. Maybe I am wrong...I don't remember when Colby Cohen and Shattenkirk made their decisions last year.

Don't think there is one. Strait did not decide until June 2 years ago if I remember correctly.

I don't think anyone is saying that. I think it's more "How crazy is it that had we won that one game, we'd be in!" At least that's how I'm reading it. And how I feel. It is a little bizarre that one game made that much of a difference.

I probably should have used the quote function...I was really responding to the post asking for an investigation.

I know...my comments weren't directed at you. I was agreeing with you, and in doing so, pointing out how ridiculous those comments sound when BU could have won any one or two of about ten other games and qualified. (the "makes perfect sense to me" was sarcastic...) :)

Re: Boston University Part IV: Off-Season or New Season?

I don't even think that's right. Had BU beat RPI, it would have change 1-3 at most PWC. They would still be on the outside looking in. I only see Possibly RPI and maybe Dartmouth. Where are these 6 comparisions that are being changed?

Exactly my point about this obsession with the PWR. Forget RPI. What about a loss and a tie to BROWN? What about a loss to HARVARD? What about losing three of the last five to Northeastern (and it they had won the last home game they wouldn't have even PLAYED Northeastern again)? Win games and the PWR takes care of itself. Or would you all rather go back to the "fairer" way of picking teams (letting a bunch of NCAA oldtimers in a smoke-filled back room write the names of teams they haven't even seen into a bracket)? When you lose 12 games and tie 8 (which comprises MORE than 50% of the games played), your chances of getting in aren't too good. I'll stop bringing up the importance of WINNING when everyone else stops bringing up the PWR.

You just don't get it, do you? No one is making a big deal out of that RPI game. Someone (slurpees, I think) posted that one game as an example of how volatile the PWR is. That led into this whole discussion about whether or not the NCAA needs to look into a different say to select the field (I say no). But no one ever said that RPI game single-handedly decided BU's season. You won't find any BU fan who's OK with the Brown, Harvard and NU results. No one said, "I'm OK with those games, but man, that RPI game really sticks in my craw." That game was just being used as an EXAMPLE, meaning "one that is representative of a group as a whole." Obviously all of those games killed BU, but the RPI game was being used simply to show how close BU was despite all those downfalls. Even if you keep the RPI loss, there are several other games where you flip one or two results and BU's in. You're the only one who keeps bringing anything up because you apparently just feel the need to argue with anyone about anything.

As others have said, there really isn't any sort of deadline. Usually the decisions are made sooner rather than later, but Strait's a perfect example of that not being a steadfast rule. Shattenkirk and Cohen signed the first week of April last year.

This was my point.

If you read my post, I made it clear that I wasn't saying that BU shouldve made the tournament....they had their chances and those chances weren't limited to one game vs RPI.

I was criticizing the PWR's that give that much weight to OOC games, to the point where it seems a single OOC win is more important then any 1 league victory. I find the PWRs questionable that a single win doesn't just move you up 1 or 2 spots...but rather 5 or 6 spots. IMO that's too fluid...not that I have a better suggestion, but that's not my job
