Boston University off-season thread (preparing for 16/17).

Re: Boston University off-season thread (preparing for 16/17).

Another interesting note is that only 3 of the 9 players from the Freshman class during Quinn's 1st season remain. Not to mention that then-Sophomore Sam Kurker left halfway thru Quinn's 1st season.

Gone:
Collier (NU)
Macafee (Army)
Duane (Quinnipiac)
Ryan (retired - injuries)
Lawrence (cut - remains at BU as a student)
Baillargeon (ASU)

Still Here:
Somerby
Roberto
Kelley

I won't profess to remember the details of how many of these guys committed when Parker was HC (all? I think Roberto was a late add after decommiting from Maine?), but this was the class that really stuck out as not having a full complement of D-1 talent. Who on the list would you still agree to bring in? Somerby, and maybe Baillargeon and Roberto? Kelley is a capable 4th liner, so maybe you could argue him as well.

He was on track to graduate in three years, no slouch. Agreed it's surprising he ended up at ASU, perhaps it's because he'll inevitably get a lot of playing time there but that's a significant step down from playing in Hockey East.

At least Tom Caron won't have to try to pronounce his name now...

Re: Boston University off-season thread (preparing for 16/17).

Doing some cleaning and came across a bag of tshirts - most were the shirts from Minight Madness/Midnight Mania. Remember when they did that? Bummed that they stopped it. They're all pretty funny to look at now. I think I'm going to order one of those quilts you can make from old tshirts.

Did you find the one with Scott Cashman on the front? I wore holes in mine. :)

Re: Boston University off-season thread (preparing for 16/17).

Mookie met a pair of brothers who are hea refs this weekend.
Won't ever be able to yell at them again from the stands. :( :p

Two Terriers get their name on the Stanley Cup. Congrats guys!

Re: Boston University off-season thread (preparing for 16/17).

Bonino joins Drury and Pandolfo as Terriers who've won the Cup and an NCAA title. And Sullivan, who captained the 1990-91 NCAA finalist team, was about half an inch from joining that trio.

Also great to see a team with so many NCAA players win. Hoping it helps the cause. Maybe Pittsburgh could trade up to get Keller.:D:D

I would be curious to know if Bonino had the most points in the playoffs among the Terriers who have won the cup. I don't remember if Drury won the cup that first season when he had a bunch of GWGs - if so he may have had more points than Bonino did this year. I don't think McEachern had a ton of points, but back then scoring totals were higher.

It would be pretty cool if Bonino and Dumolin bring the Cup to the Comm Ave Classic next month.

Drury had 16 points (11G, 5A) in the Avs' Cup win in 2001. He had 18 (9+9) a few years later in Buffalo's playoff run. Over his 47 career playoff goals, 17 were game-winners. https://www.nhl.com/player/chris-drury-8460562?stats=career-p-nhl&season=20102011

I hate to do this to you Rogie, but Sully was captain in '89-'90. Mark Krys captained the finalist team in '91. :)

So he was half an inch from becoming a finalist - well, really a half an inch from taking the semi-final game against Colgate to OT. :D

I have never been a Penguins fan, but I really wanted them to win for Sullivan's sake (and Bonino's but not to the same degree). After not being given much of a legit opportunity by the Bruins (IMHO), and doing his time as an assistant and in the minors, this has to feel so sweet for the man that Parker called "the best Captain I've ever had".

It looks more likely that Sullivan will never get college coaching experience now, right buoldtimer? :D:D

The first time I met Sully was at Captain Nemo's in Kenmore, when he was a gawky skinny freshman newly arrived on Comm Ave. We had a pretty stacked team that year (though they were ultimately disappointing), but he stuck with the team, played a prominent role, and was obviously a high quality player from the start. If he hadn't badly injured his ankle in the series against Michigan State in '90 (and despite this, still carried the team on his back), who knows what might have happened in those final two games.

Unlikely.

Perhaps, my memory has failed me again, but I think Sullivan was the 3rd line center on the 1989-90 team. McEachern centered the 1st line, Dave Tomlinson the 2nd. Now, that was a team that was stacked.

One of my fondest memories of BU hockey is Sullivan leading the team back onto the ice surface from the locker room after they'd knocked off NoDak in the 1990 NCAA QF's.
