Boston University off-season thread (preparing for 16/17).

Re: Boston University off-season thread (preparing for 16/17).

There will never be a schedule that will appease every BU fan. Just take solace in that there are no more 4pm Saturday home games...

I actually enjoyed the 4:00 PM games. Last year they did have too many of them. I'd have liked to see them keep 2 or 3 of them on the schedule every year.

Let's stick to *****ing about the quality of opponent and the 2 Tuesday night games against the smarties who also play hockey pretty well. :)

Historically, I also really liked the Tuesday before Thanksgiving game, although in recent years it seems as if more and more students have already gotten out of dodge (I don't remember leaving on the Tuesday when I was in school) so it seems that it may be time to reconsider that one as a good idea.

Yale game is a Tuesday in December. The place will be a morgue. But I'll be there Scarlet! :)

I can't wait for that Sacred Heart tilt. Should be epic. #FeistyWednesday

Think the schedule addressed the complaints from last year about 4PM starts and too many home game in Oct-Nov
One concern is the Union game is same day as World Junior final in Montreal. We most likely will have a lot of participants in that tourney

Re: Boston University off-season thread (preparing for 16/17).

Great NY Times article on Bonino's shot blocking prowess.

http://www.nytimes.com/2016/06/09/s...y-pucks-stanley-cup-finals.html?emc=eta1&_r=0

I think the Pens get it done tonight.

If they do, Bonino will become the 7th Terrier to skate for a Stanley Cup champion and Sullivan will be the first to coach one. [Jack Kelley led the New England Whalers to the AVCO Cup in the WHA's first season, '72-'73]

The last BU Cup winner? Joe DiPenta with Anaheim in 2007. Still amazed that he ever reached the NHL.

He's gone. Not surprised that he left after the rumors but surprised where he has ended up. I guess this means he has graduated too. Congrats to him.

He was on track to graduate in three years, no slouch. Agreed it's surprising he ended up at ASU, perhaps it's because he'll inevitably get a lot of playing time there but that's a significant step down from playing in Hockey East.

This may sound harsh, but I'm guessing he didn't exactly have a lot of suitors. Not sure how long he has been looking, but we know how much work goes into making sure a program has the right number of kids committed, coming, etc. To add someone for one year, who frankly has been a bit of a bust (at least relative to expectations), may not have been a big appeal to too many programs. That said, I wish him all the best. I hope he helps keep the program moving in the right direction, and kudos to him for finishing his degree early.

I applaud him for earning his degree in 3 years, although I imagine he probably thought the next step would have been to sign an ELC w/ the Senators instead of playing a final year of college hockey elsewhere. Agreed that on the ice he never developed into the player many expected and I suspect this may have been a mutual decision to move on from a hockey standpoint. I believe there was also a disconnect between the coaching staff's preferred style of play (fast, aggressive, physical) vs. Baillargeon's comfort zone (deliberate, cerebral, less physical) that contributed to the parting of ways. This past season was a mulligan of sorts for Baillargeon given how mono derailed him the previous season, but we only saw glimpses of the Baillargeon from his Freshman year.

Re: Boston University off-season thread (preparing for 16/17).

Another interesting note is that only 3 of the 9 players from the Freshman class during Quinn's 1st season remain. Not to mention that then-Sophomore Sam Kurker left halfway thru Quinn's 1st season.

Gone:
Collier (NU)
Macafee (Army)
Duane (Quinnipiac)
Ryan (retired - injuries)
Lawrence (cut - remains at BU as a student)
Baillargeon (ASU)

Still Here:
Somerby
Roberto
Kelley

HA! Maybe he read my post!!

Hopefully he'll wind up being a big fish in a little pond there. It's a totally different experience. I was at their home rink back in February and it's.....well, it makes Merrimack look high end But, it's a beautiful campus. Good for him - I wish him the best!!

Re: Boston University off-season thread (preparing for 16/17).

Well they sent the home schedule out, even though the email said it was the complete schedule.

18 total home games. 2 exhibitions... Canadian team and the U18 game (yuck). All Friday games are still at 7:30 (yuck).

I wonder when they will send out the away schedule?

If the Frozen Nonsense is indeed happening, I would think probably not until it's officially announced by the money people.

Re: Boston University off-season thread (preparing for 16/17).

I would like to thank you all for the kinds words of support for Robbie on this thread. It was a very tough decision for him to head West, but he felt it was the best place to get his career back on track. Thanks again for the support.

Re: Boston University off-season thread (preparing for 16/17).

Doing some cleaning and came across a bag of tshirts - most were the shirts from Minight Madness/Midnight Mania. Remember when they did that? Bummed that they stopped it. They're all pretty funny to look at now. I think I'm going to order one of those quilts you can make from old tshirts.

Why they stop all the chit we used to have?!?!?
